Brute Bonnet is a specialized but effective wallbreaker and offensive threat in PU thanks to its great offensive typing, solid bulk, and great Attack stat. Close Combat covers opposing Dark-types such as Zoroark as well as Steel-types like Alolan Sandslash and Magneton. Sucker Punch allows Brute Bonnet to get over its middling Speed stat to revenge kill Psychic- and Ghost-types like Espeon, Hoopa, and Hiusian Typhlosion as well as faster threats such as Ambipom and Salazzle. Crunch is generally stronger and more consistent than Thief against neutral targets like Goodra and Frosmoth, and its chance to lower Defense can enable Brute Bonnet to break through walls like Bellibolt. Thief is a solid option on sets running Booster Energy, as it trades off weaker damage output for the ability to punish foes like Rotom-H, Amoonguss, and Skuntank. Finally, Synthesis is a niche but useful option, allowing Brute Bonnet to recover off damage and check Pokemon like Rhydon and Hisuian Electrode. Booster Energy's Attack boost allows Brute Bonnet to OHKO all Rhydon sets with Seed Bomb, and Brute Bonnet makes a decent Knock Off absorber, although it only works once per match. Alternatively, Black Glasses provides a smaller boost exclusively for Dark-type attacks that isn't removed when Brute Bonnet switches out. Heavy-Duty Boots is an option for general utility, preventing Brute Bonnet from taking entry hazard damage as it pivots on and off the battlefield. Tera Poison is a great defensive Tera Type, allowing Brute Bonnet to take on threats such as Florges, Hisuian Decidueye, and Virizion, but it comes at the cost of becoming weak to Ground- and Psychic-type attacks. An alternative is Tera Dark, boosting the power of Crunch and Sucker Punch and allowing Brute Bonnet to OHKO Tatsugiri with Sucker Punch after slight chip damage or when holding Black Glasses. Brute Bonnet is a great offensive pivot on non-Booster Energy sets and threat on offense and hyper offense teams, finding use over other Dark-types thanks to its unique offensive typing and sky-high Attack stat. Brute Bonnet's weak defensive profile means it appreciates having pivots such as Bombirdier, Uxie, and Bruxish that allow it to get onto the battlefield safely. Brute Bonnet can struggle to deal with physically defensive walls such as Terastallized Rhydon, Amoonguss, and Dipplin, so Pokemon that can take these threats on such as Milotic, one's own Rhydon, and Skuntank all make solid partners. Brute Bonnet's ability to deal with threats such as Rhydon and Hisuian Avalugg benefits partners such as Ambipom, Skuntank, and Bombirdier. It also enjoys having partners such as Cramorant and Florges that can switch into Fighting-type attacks from the likes of Paldean Tauros-F and Hisuian Decidueye.

Crunch is generally preferred over Seed Bomb, as Dark is a superior offensive typing and hits more of the metagame for neutral damage. It notably hits Muk, Weezing, Dipplin, and Articuno harder, but keep in mind that Brute Bonnet will still need the latter three to be chipped if it hopes to break through them. Crunch also comes with a handy chance to drop Defense, which can be useful in a late-game situation when faced down with Dipplin. However, Seed Bomb can be considered, as it hits Sandslash and Sandaconda harder. Sucker Punch is mandatory, as Brute Bonnet is quite slow, and access to powerful priority allows it to become threatening to offensive builds. Close Combat provides crucial coverage against foes such as Orthworm, Magneton, and opposing Brute Bonnet. Synthesis allows Brute Bonnet to stay healthy throughout a match and allows it to potentially outlast defensive Pokemon that try to beat it with consistent chip damage, such as Sandaconda and Naclstack. Heavy-Duty Boots allows Brute Bonnet to come in multiple times throughout a game without fear of chip from entry hazards; this makes it quite challenging to take down in conjunction with Synthesis. On the other hand, Booster Energy gives Brute Bonnet a one-time boost to its Attack, which makes it a very threatening late-game wincon. Notably, it allows Sucker Punch to OHKO Jolteon after Stealth Rock damage. Booster Energy can only be used once, however, which restricts Brute Bonnet's flexibility throughout a game. Tera Poison is the preferred Tera type, as it grants Brute Bonnet a resistance to Fighting-, Bug-, Poison-, and Fairy-type attacks. This allows it to turn the tables on several of its traditional checks, such as Primeape. Tera Water can also be used to give Brute Bonnet a resistance to Fire- and Ice-type attacks, letting it deal with Sneasel and Typhlosion. An Adamant nature is run for maximum damage output. Brute Bonnet's powerful attacks and access to Sucker Punch give it a solid place on many balance and offensive teams. Do note that it is best to use teammates that are not reliant on Terastallizing to perform their roles consistently, as Brute Bonnet often needs to Terastallize if it is looking to sweep late-game. Brute Bonnet benefits from teammates that help to chip down its offensive answers into range of its powerful Sucker Punch. Fast pivots such as Primeape, Jolteon, and Basculin can help chip much of the offensive metagame, and Brute Bonnet also appreciates their ability to get it in safely. On the other hand, physically bulky teammates such as Weezing and Sandaconda check Fighting-types like Primeape and Toxicroak. All three also run Rocky Helmet, which is great to further chip physical attackers like Sneasel, Hisuian Sneasel, and Virizion. The latter two also set Stealth Rock to chip down Brute Bonnet's offensive answers even further. Two of Brute Bonnet's best and most common answers are Charizard and Whimsicott, so special walls such as Muk help by checking these big threats. Brute Bonnet pairs well with other powerful wallbreakers, such as Magneton, Hitmontop, and Clawitzer, as they can help to break down each other's defensive answers; the former two can also pivot to get Brute Bonnet in safely.

Choice Band Brute Bonnet uses its great STAB combination, good overall coverage, and sizable bulk to become an effective wallbreaker. Close Combat allows Brute Bonnet to hit foes such as Orthworm, Virizion, and opposing Brute Bonnet hard. Sucker Punch allows Brute Bonnet to revenge kill dangerous offensive threats such as Jolteon, Magneton, and Typhlosion in an emergency. However, it should be used with caution, as being locked into Sucker Punch is very undesirable due to how easily it can be exploited by the opponent. Tera Dark gives Crunch a significant power boost, giving Brute Bonnet the ability to 2HKO bulky foes such as Weezing and Orthworm after Stealth Rock. An Adamant nature is required to give Brute Bonnet as much power as possible. Choice Band Brute Bonnet fits best on bulky offense and balance teams. Brute Bonnet tends to invite in threats such as Virizion, Primeape, and Whimsicott to attempt a revenge kill. Bulky Poison-types such as Weezing and Muk are therefore standout partners, as they can help stave off these threats. Brute Bonnet complements them by coming in on Ground- and Psychic-type attacks from the likes of Sandaconda and Mesprit, which offensive teammates such as Hisuian Sneasel and Jolteon appreciate as well. Dipplin is another great teammate that can help out against most physical revenge killers. A specially bulky teammate, such as Mesprit or Muk, can help stave off revenge killing attempts from the likes of Charizard, Typhlosion, and Magneton; both of these partners also help Brute Bonnet get in safely with their slow pivot moves, and the first can set Stealth Rock whereas the second can spread status for Brute Bonnet to take advantage of. Brute Bonnet is also quite slow, and it benefits from VoltTurn partners that can get it in safely. It therefore loves faster pivoting teammates, such as Jolteon, Choice Scarf Primeape, and Choice Scarf Basculin, that can help it overcome the shortcoming of its low Speed. These teammates appreciate Brute Bonnet's wallbreaking capabilities facilitating a potential late-game sweep. Brute Bonnet hates being statused, so teammates that can absorb attempts to burn and paralyze it, such as Naclstack, Typhlosion, and Muk are appreciated. It also appreciates paralysis being spread onto the opposing team, as teams can take advantage of its poor Speed tier. As such, teammates like Mesprit and Sandaconda make for good partners.

Set Details Brute Bonnet uses its solid stats and supportive movepool to aid its team, threatening common metagame threats such as Calyrex-S and Lunala with Sucker Punch while resisting or being immune to their STAB attacks. It can beat out non-Restricted Pokemon such as Urshifu-R by shutting them down with Spore and finishing them with Seed Bomb. It can shut down most foes with Spore and protect its allies with Rage Powder. Moves like Sucker Punch and Seed Bomb prevent Brute Bonnet from being fully passive and ignored or shut down by Taunt. Seed Bomb threatens Urshifu-R and Kyogre. Pollen Puff can heal teammates and threatens opposing Brute Bonnet. Covert Cloak ignores Fake Out pressure, which can let Brute Bonnet put a foe to sleep without being stopped. The physical bulk investment allows Brute Bonnet to survive Close Combat from the Urshifu formes and Glacial Lance from Calyrex-I. The special bulk investment ensures Focus Sash Flutter Mane will not KO Brute Bonnet with Moonblast. With a Protosynthesis boost, it survives Icicle Crash from Tera Stellar Chien-Pao, Close Combat from Tera Stellar Urshifu formes almost every time, and +1 Body Press from Zamazenta-C. Tera Water turns the weaknesses to Fire- and Ice-type moves into resistances, which is helpful against Pokemon such as Chi-Yu and Calyrex-I, and dropping the weaknesses to Fairy- and Fighting-type attacks helps versus the Urshifu formes, Koraidon, and Flutter Mane. Teambuilding Miraidon stops Brute Bonnet from putting grounded foes to sleep with Electric Terrain while also threatening to OHKO Brute Bonnet with Draco Meteor. It is weak to common metagame attacks such as Glacial Lance from Calyrex-I and Body Press from Zamazenta-C. Close Combat from the Urshifu formes threatens heavy damage. Follow Me users immune to Spore such as the Ogerpon formes and Safety Goggles Indeedee-F can shut down this Pokemon's Spore and Sucker Punch pressure while also ignoring Rage Powder. Koraidon can set sun and bolster Brute Bonnet's defensive capabilities, and it threatens the Urshifu formes and Miraidon with an OHKO. It in turn threatens Psychic-types like Lunala and Calyrex-S for Koraidon. Lunala and Calyrex-S appreciate Brute Bonnet's Sucker Punch pressure against Ghost-types such as opposing Lunala and Calyrex-S, which threaten them, and Rage Powder protects them from opposing Ghost- and Dark-type attacks like Chien-Pao's Sucker Punch, Flutter Mane's Shadow Ball, and Lunala's Moongeist Beam. Frail attackers like Flutter Mane and Chi-Yu enjoy redirection support from Rage Powder while also rounding out a sun team core. Flutter Mane threatens Fighting-type attackers like Koraidon and the Urshifu formes, and Chi-Yu threatens Grass-type Pokemon, such as Rillaboom and Amoonguss, which cannot be put to sleep.

With good bulk and access to strong priority, Brute Bonnet is a great offensive user of Spore. Bullet Seed versus Seed Bomb: Even when not using Loaded Dice, Bullet Seed is useful for potentially KOing foes like Iron Bundle and Flutter Mane through Focus Sash and punishing Mimikyu switch ins. Nontheless, Seed Bomb is the more reliable option when not using Loaded Dice. Substitute: Substitute is easy to set up thanks to Spore and eases the risk early wake-ups can pose. If using Substitute, using Crunch or Payback over Sucker Punch is preferred due to the issues Substitute Gholdengo can cause. Crunch versus Payback: Having a reliable Dark-type STAB move is helpful when facing foes like Substitute Gholdengo. Payback has higher damage potential, but Crunch won't have its power dropped by foes switching in. Close Combat: Close Combat crushes Roaring Moon and opposing Brute Bonnet, though the drop in bulk can be troublesome for this set. Tera Types Dark: Tera Dark works fantastically with Sucker Punch, giving Brute Bonnet good revenge killing capability. Poison: Tera Poison covers Brute Bonnet's major weaknesses to U-turn, Fairy, and Fighting, giving it an easy chance to use Spore. Fire: While the Stealth Rock weakness can be troublesome, Tera Fire still does well against Flutter Mane and lets Brute Bonnet melt Scizor and Tinkaton with Tera Blast. Fairy: Powerful Dragon-type attacks such as Outrage and Draco Meteor can be turned into Spore bait with Tera Fairy, in addition to arming Brute Bonnet with a powerful Tera Blast against them. Grass: If using Bullet Seed, Tera Grass can make sense for increasing the chance of shooting down Focus Sash leads such as Flutter Mane and still keeping the Spore immunity against Breloom and opposing Brute Bonnet. Items Leftovers: The extra recovery pairs very well with Spore and Substitute. Sitrus Berry: If not using Substitute, the quick burst of recovery with Sitrus Berry is preferred. Loaded Dice: Guaranteeing 4 hits with Bullet Seed means Brute Bonnet will always OHKO Flutter Mane and Iron Bundle through their Focus Sash, and the higher chance for 5 hits can even shoot down Mimikyu and offensive Great Tusk.

Don't be fooled by Brute Bonnet's low Speed stat; after two uses of Trailblaze, it even outspeeds Dragapult, which is a very feasible feat thanks to Spore. With the lack of Sleep Clause, this Speed turns Brute Bonnet into a terrifying sleep inducer! Crunch versus Sucker Punch: Crunch is the preferred STAB move, reliably hitting the most common Spore check, Gholdengo, which makes it the ideal STAB attack to use with Substitute. However, Sucker Punch lets Brute Bonnet pick off threats when it doesn't have the chance to Spore and set up Trailblaze. Close Combat versus Substitute: On one hand, Close Combat deals massive damage to Dark-type resistances, such as Roaring Moon, but it leaves Brute Bonnet fairly vulnerable to priority attacks. On the other hand, Spore gives Brute Bonnet ample opportunity to set up Substitute, easing the cost of early wake ups. Tera Types Dark: Powering up Crunch makes it easier to sweep with Crunch or Sucker Punch while still leaving it immune to Grimmsnarl's Prankster Taunt. Fire: Tera Fire turns Brute Bonnet's devastating U-turn and Fairy-type weaknesses into resistances, giving it the edge against Flutter Mane and letting it fry Scizor and Tinkaton with Tera Blast. Poison: Tera Poison grants Brute Bonnet important resistances to U-turn, Fighting, and Fairy without compromising itself against Water-types. Fairy: With Tera Fairy, Brute Bonnet deals with Dragon-types far more reliably, and gains a valuable tool against opposing Dark- and Dragon-types with Tera Blast. EV Spreads 148 HP / 100 Atk / 4 Def / 4 SpD / 252 Spe with Adamant: With Adamant, Brute Bonnet will still outspeed Great Tusk and Annihilape after Trailblaze and Dragapult after two uses of Trailblaze. Brute Bonnet's bulk lets it survive some powerful attacks, such as Iron Moth's Sludge Wave, Choice Specs Gholdengo's Make It Rain, and almost always surviving Choice Specs Iron Bundle's Freeze-Dry. 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe with Jolly: At the cost of bulk, maximizing Speed lets Brute Bonnet outspeed threats such as Garchomp and Iron Treads after just one use of Trailblaze Items Booster Energy: Activating Protosynthesis takes dvantage of Brute Bonnet's power, though it means switching out will weaken Brute Bonnet. Leftovers: If using Substitute, Leftovers is by far the preferred item, as Brute Bonnet has plenty of turns to recover its health against sleeping foes. Life Orb: Life Orb is the most consistent way to boost Brute Bonnet's power, letting it switch out after using Spore when needed. Focus Sash: Despite Brute Bonnet's good bulk, Focus Sash is a great option to stop potential sweeps, assuming entry hazards aren't set up.
