Ceruledge is an exceptional wallbreaker on Fire teams with its access to strong STAB moves and priority. Swords Dance allows it to set up quickly, enabling it to break walls like Iron Hands and Hisuian Goodra with relative ease. Bitter Blade allows Ceruledge to re-enable its Focus Sash if it's not already consumed. Poltergeist hits foes that resist Bitter Blade like Archaludon, Toxapex, and Heatran. Shadow Sneak allows Ceruledge to check faster threats like Dragapult, Iron Boulder, and Flutter Mane. Jolly Nature makes Ceruledge faster than threats like Choice Scarf Iron Boulder and Choice Scarf Landorus after a boost from Weak Armor, checking the former with Poltergeist and the latter with +2 Bitter Blade. Both sun setters, Ninetales and Torkoal, are amazing teammates for Ceruledge. Ninetales has access to utility moves such as Encore and Healing Wish to ensure Ceruledge can come safely on the field and can also use Solar Beam to punish Gastrodon and Swampert, while Torkoal can set Stealth Rock up and remove opposing entry hazards with Rapid Spin. Sun is especially primordial for Ceruledge, as it boosts the power of Bitter Blade and enhances Ceruledge's wallbreaking capabilities, notably allowing it to OHKO specially defensive Gliscor after a Swords Dance. Cinderace provides support with Court Change, ensuring Ceruledge's Focus Sash remains intact, and can take out Dark-type foes such as Hydreigon and Tyranitar with High Jump Kick. Ogerpon-H is a great wallbreaking partner for Ceruledge, hitting Heatran whose Air Balloon has been popped as well as Water- and Ground-type threats such as Hisuian Samurott, Keldeo, Swampert, and Hippowdon. Air Balloon Heatran is another great partner, providing a Ground immunity and dealing with Flutter Mane. Finally, Volcarona is a valuable teammate, as it can ease Ceruledge's job by disposing of Toxapex and Urshifu-R while benefiting from the breaches Ceruledge can create against opposing special walls such as Gliscor and Clodsire.

Ceruledge is an impeccable wallbreaker and late-game setup sweeper on Ghost teams, boasting a great Attack stat, a useful ability in Weak Armor, and a hard-hitting STAB combination. Poltergeist is Ceruledge's hardest hitting STAB move, notably OHKOing walls like Clodsire, Sinistcha, and Pecharunt after a Swords Dance. Alternatively, Close Combat may be used to threaten Dark-types such as Ting-Lu, Roaring Moon, and Hisuian Samurott as well as Steel-types such as Heatran and Archaludon. However, Ceruledge without a powerful Ghost-type STAB move will be walled by Skeledirge, Garchomp, and Toxapex. Bitter Blade allows Ceruledge to eliminate Steel-types like Skarmory, and Iron Treads as well as recover any chip damage so Focus Sash can be properly utilized. Furthermore, Bitter Blade can be used to trade with threats like Alolan Muk, Weavile, and Meowscarada. Shadow Sneak scares away faster Ghost-types such as Flutter Mane, Dragapult, and Spectrier, OHKOing them after Ceruledge boosts its Attack stat. A Jolly nature enables Ceruledge to outpace Choice Scarf users like Darkrai, Iron Boulder, Greninja, and Meowscarada after a Weak Armor boost, while an Adamant nature allows Ceruledge to OHKO Archaludon and Rotom-W after a Swords Dance and Stealth Rock damage. Flutter Mane is a great teammate due to its ability to check Dark-types like Mandibuzz, Hydreigon, and Greninja while in return, Ceruledge takes out specially defensive walls such as Heatran, Clodsire, and Hisuian Goodra. Air Balloon Gholdengo breaks past threats like Ursaluna and Toxapex should Ceruledge not opt for Poltergeist. In exchange, Ceruledge threatens the aforementioned Steel-types and breaks past specially defensive walls like Blissey and Swampert. Sinistcha leverages its resistance to Ground and Water to switch into attacks from Ogerpon-W, Excadrill, and Keldeo, and it can also spread burns via Matcha Gotcha to weaken walls. Dragapult spreads status ailments through Thunder Wave and Will-O-Wisp to chip down physically defensive walls and threatens Dragon-types such as Kommo-o, Raging Bolt, and Dragonite. Spectrier also spreads burns with Will-O-Wisp and appreciates Ceruledge weakening teams so it can easily clean late-game by setting up Calm Mind repeatedly or sweeping via a Choice Scarf set. Brambleghast removes entry hazards with Rapid Spin to maintain Ceruledge's Focus Sash and provides the same resistances that Sinistcha does. Hisuian Zoroark offers a Ghost-type immunity and the ability to remove Dark-types like Hydreigon and Hisuian Samurott via Focus Blast. Froslass provides Spikes support to wear down foes and prevents hazards from being set by using Taunt. Golurk offers Stealth Rock support and can set up beneficial trades using Berries or a Focus Sash.

Ceruledge is a strong late-game sweeper on Fire teams that checks Ghost- and Psychic-types thanks to its powerful STAB moves, setup in Swords Dance, and a great ability in Weak Armor, punishing physical attackers that hit it. At +2, Ceruledge 2HKOes Great Tusk and has a good chance to OHKO Gliscor after Stealth Rock damage with Poltergeist. Shadow Sneak allows Ceruledge to take out boosted albeit weakened Pokemon like Dragonite, Alolan Raichu, Iron Boulder, and opposing Ceruledge. With Focus Sash, Ceruledge ensures its Weak Armor is activated from most physical attacks, and it lets Ceruledge set up Swords Dance once. Cinderace and Torkoal are great partners for Ceruledge, as they provide entry hazard control with Court Change and Rapid Spin, respectively, so that its Focus Sash is kept intact. Additionally, Torkoal sets up sun to further boost Ceruledge's Bitter Blade and Stealth Rock to aid its sweeping, while Cinderace targets Dark-types such as Ting-Lu, Hydreigon, and Tyranitar, which can pose challenges to Ceruledge's sweeping. Wallbreakers such as Choice Band Victini and Mega Charizard X remove bulky Pokemon that Ceruledge dislikes. Victini takes on Water-types such as Tapu Fini, Urshifu-R, and Dondozo, while Mega Charizard X breaks past Heatran. In return, Victini appreciates Ceruledge handling Psychic-types like Iron Boulder and Mega Latias. Hisuian Arcanine revenge kills boosted sweepers such as Roaring Moon so that Ceruledge can sweep, and it can threaten Flying-types such as Galarian Moltres and Zapdos. Ceruledge can also enable other sweepers and cleaners such as Volcarona by removing Pokemon that threaten them such as Skeledirge so they can start their own sweep.

With access to Swords Dance and a nuclear-strength Never-Ending Nightmare, Ceruledge is the premier physical wallbreaker for Ghost teams. At +2, Poltergeist outright OHKOes non-Unaware Clodsire and OHKOes Mega Sableye, Swampert, and defensive Heatran after Spikes damage. While boosted, Ceruledge with Ghostium Z can take out an even wider range of defensive foes with Never-Ending Nightmare, securing OHKOs on Toxapex and Mega Venusaur while being favored to OHKO Archaludon and Dragonite through Multiscale. Opting for Focus Sash weakens Ceruledge's potential damage output, but it allows Ceruledge to activate Weak Armor and beat dangerous physical threats such as Ogerpon-C and Iron Treads that would otherwise simply outspeed and OHKO it. Shadow Sneak allows Ceruledge to pick off weakened faster foes like Iron Boulder, Barraskewda, and opposing Ceruledge, while Close Combat lets it surprise foes it otherwise struggles to beat, such as Roaring Moon and Porygon2. Ceruledge appreciates Sableye's dual screens support, as the increased durability allows it to set up in more situations while making the healing from Bitter Blade even more significant. On bulkier Ghost teams, Mega Sableye also makes a good teammate for Ceruledge; it keeps hazards off the field and freely switches in on physical walls that Ceruledge forces in like Ting-Lu, Archaludon, and Mandibuzz. Sinistcha works well with Ceruledge as a special setup threat that handles Water- and Ground-type foes like Keldeo and Landorus-T; in return, Ceruledge handles bulky Steel- and Grass-types like Mega Scizor and Tapu Bulu for Sinistcha. Brambleghast can fulfill a similar defensive role, trading Sinistcha's setup potential for the ability to set and remove hazards in order to keep Ceruledge healthy and ease its wallbreaking duties. Hisuian Zoroark and Ceruledge can work together to break down physically defensive foes, as Hisuian Zoroark lures foes like Moltres and Tyranitar while disguised as Ceruledge and then hits them with Focus Blast or Shadow Ball. Mega Banette has particular synergy with Ceruledge on offensive teams, where it forces opponents to send out their answers to its brutally strong Poltergeist and trades with them using Destiny Bond, enabling Ceruledge to wreak havoc later. Similarly, Mimikyu is a great partner, as it can use Swords Dance, Drain Punch, and Play Rough to help Ceruledge overwhelm Normal- and Dark-type foes that would handle Ceruledge's Poltergeist. Choice Scarf Mimikyu can also support Ceruledge by spreading burns, using Trick to cripple opposing physical walls that switch in fearing Mimikyu's Swords Dance set, and hitting faster Dark-types such as Hydreigon and Greninja with Play Rough.

Bulk Up Ceruledge makes excellent use of both its respectable bulk and Bitter Blade's high recovery. By changing its typing to a more defense oriented one, while maintaining the Fire immunity thanks to Flash Fire, Ceruledge can set up Bulk Ups on a variety of common Pokemon, ranging from Corviknight, Kingambit, Azumarill and Gholdengo. Taunt: Taunt lets Ceruledge set up Bulk Up without needing to fear common phasing moves (with the exception of attacking moves such as Dragon Tail), as well as opposing setup moves such opposing Bulk Up and Iron Defense, provided you outspeed. Shadow Sneak Priority of some form is always nice to have on a Pokemon, which makes Shadow Sneak an easy contender for the last move. Gaining extra added strength against Pokemon such as Flutter Mane, Dragapult and Annihilape is certainly charming. Grass Tera Blast: This allows Ceruledge to eliminate Dondozo more quickly. While Taunt can shut down Dondozo's Yawn, it cannot shut down Fissure. The only way to beat Dondozo would be to eliminate it as quickly as possibly, which Grass Tera Blast aids with. Flame Charge: Flame Charge provides Ceruledge an extra net of safety against potential Scarf users and Annihilape, who are capable of turning the tides against it. While normally, Ceruledge is prone to faster Taunt + Bulk Up users and Scarfed Trick, Flame Charge helps mitigate both of those weaknesses. Will-O-Wisp: Ceruledge can be a status spreader in games where it can't set up as easily. It also helps Ceruledge set up more easily against threats such as Unaware Clodsire. Tera Types Fairy: Tera Fairy helps Ceruledge's matchup against prominent Dark-types such as Roaring Moon and Hydreigon. Grass: An immunity to Spore and a resistance to Water makes Grass the most notable Tera type for this set. Flash Fire eliminating one of Grass's many weaknesses is also noteworthy. Fire: Increasing Bitter Blade's power will always be a valuable trait. Eliminating Ghost's weaknesses to Ghost and Dark also allows Ceruledge to set up more comfortably. Bug: Tera Bug is similar to Tera Grass, but in exchange for losing the Water resistance and maintaining the Rock weakness of Fire / Ghost, Ceruledge can tank Volcarona's Bug Buzz with significantly more ease. EV Spreads 252 HP / 252 Def with Impish: Investing into Defense prepares Ceruledge and its mediocre physical bulk for the physical-biased metagame. Bulk Up will boost its Defense, but it can struggle to take some physical hits even after a boost, and its special bulk is naturally high. 252 HP / 252 Spe with Jolly: A faster spread helps Ceruledge outspeed other Bulk Up users, like Annihilape opting to invest in bulk. Being faster, more often than not, lets Ceruledge win these matchups with ease. 252 HP / 252 SpD with Careful: While most threats in the metagame at the moment are physical, a specially defensive spread is still noteworthy for its ability to surprise Hydreigon.

With a stellar offensive typing, a unique set of attacks, Weak Armor allowing it to outspeed a large part of the metagame, and its immunity to Extreme Speed and Mach Punch, Ceruledge proves itself to be a very solid Focus Sash option. Bitter Blade: Bitter Blade's recovery can make Focus Sash usable even if entry hazards chip it. If Ceruledge is brought down to 1 HP, a +2 Bitter Blade can heal it to the point that it can tank an extra attack. Close Combat versus Shadow Claw: Close Combat hits the Normal-, Dark-, and Rock-types that resist Ceruledge's STAB combination. Still, Shadow Claw is a noteworthy choice to guarantee the KO on Mimikyu and let Ceruledge pressure Skeledirge. Note, however, that maximum Defense Skeledirge can recover more than Shadow Claw's damage, barring critical hits, and a Terastallized Skeledirge can completely wall this set. Swords Dance versus Destiny Bond: As powerful as Swords Dance boosted attacks from Ceruledge are, the abundance of Unaware Pokemon, primarily Dondozo, has made some players opt to use Destiny Bond to snag surprise kills. Destiny Bond can also make the matchup against KOing common Sucker Punch Pokemon, such as Meowscarada and Kingambit, easier to win without having to rely on predictions. Adamant versus Jolly: Adamant's added damage output is valuable, but Jolly allows Ceruledge to outspeed non-Scarf Gholdengo, and gives it a chance at outspeeding Modest Rotom formes and Glimmora. All of the mentioned examples are Special Attackers, meaning Ceruledge's Weak Armor often does not trigger in these matchups. Tera Types Fire: Giving Bitter Blade an extra push in damage is quite useful, giving Ceruledge more recovery. Normal: Normal is an exceedingly common Tera Type on Ghost types due to the immunity it brings to the table. Ceruledge makes particularly excellent use of Normal Tera by resisting both Steel and Fairy, making it very difficult for Gholdengo and Mimikyu to click anything other than a Ghost type move when facing off against Ceruledge. Fighting: Giving extra reach power to Close Combat, a powerful option against Pokemon such as Hydreigon, makes Fighting a solid choice for a Tera Type.
