Analysis

Set Details Sludge Bomb is Galarian Stunfisk's main way of dealing with common Ground-type checks, spreading poison onto the likes of Xatu, Mantine, and Rotom-C to avoid being entirely passive. Protect allows Galarian Stunfisk to scout its foes' moves while also gaining some HP with Leftovers. This can be especially useful against Rotom-C, which often attempts to debilitate Galarian Stunfisk with Trick. Alternatively, Thunder Wave allows Galarian Stunfisk to support its teammates by slowing down potential switch-ins such as Passimian and Alolan Exeggutor, while Foul Play hits physical attackers like Dhelmise and Golurk for great damage and punishes setup attempts from Swords Dance Silvally-Ground and Decidueye. Pain Split is another option to somewhat extend Galarian Stunfisk's longevity, although its massive HP stat often means it doesn't gain large pools of HP from using the move. Thanks to Galarian Stunfisk compressing defensive roles, common offense staples such as Inteleon and Heliolisk can be used in conjunction with each other, and Pokemon like Diancie and Duraludon can run non-Stealth Rock sets. Despite the ways Galarian Stunfisk assists more offensive teammates, it also appreciates clerical support from Vaporeon and Sylveon, along with their respective Water and Fighting resistances. Additional Fighting- and Ground-type checks like Mantine, Talonflame, and Vileplume appreciate their defensive synergy with Galarian Stunfisk.
