Lumineon Movesets & Wettbewerbs-Sets

Moves Defog helps to remove entry hazards for Lumineon's teammates, and Scald threatens foes with burn but is incredibly weak. U-turn allows Lumineon to pivot out of foes that it counters, such as Simipour, to give teammates free switches in. Toxic helps cripple opposing Water-types such as Floatzel and bulky foes such as Vullaby and Audino. Set Details Maximum HP and Defense investment with a Bold nature helps Lumineon take on physical attackers lacking a super effective move, such as Monferno, slightly better, and 8 Speed EVs lets Lumineon outspeed Pawniard. A Bold nature is used despite having a physical attack since U-turn is still incredibly weak without an Attack-reducing nature, and Lumineon does not want to decrease its other stats. Leftovers provides slight recovery to help negate some chip damage, and Storm Drain allows Lumineon to pivot into Water-type attackers more effectively by giving it an immunity to their STAB attacks. Usage Tips Lumineon can be brought in on opposing Water-types such as Floatzel and weaker walls such as Vullaby and Audino. Use free turns to remove entry hazards before attempting anything else. U-turn is a risk-free move versus faster foes that Lumineon walls, as it's guaranteed to safely bring in a teammate, so use it frequently. Keep Lumineon healthy, as allowing it to be weakened early-game can leave it open to being KOed on the switch in by attacks such as Floatzel's Focus Blast and Simipour's Grass Knot. Lumineon can be used as death fodder to bring a teammate in for free if it is no longer needed to wall Water-types and has already removed entry hazards. Team Options Lumineon best supports teammates that need a reliable Water-type switch-in, such as Rapidash and Camerupt. It also helps Pokemon that need entry hazard removal to be effective, such as Regice and Simisear. Specially defensive teammates, such as Audino and Grumpig, can help take on special attackers that threaten Lumineon, and Electric-immune Pokemon such as Stunfisk help combat one of Lumineon's two weaknesses and prevent it from being Volt Switch fodder. Audino is also notable for being able to pass Wishes to Lumineon to help make up for its lack of recovery. Lumineon can be severely pressured by strong wallbreakers, such as Stoutland and Leafeon, so checks to them, such as Metang and Monferno, are highly appreciated. As Lumineon will be pivoting with U-turn versus Water-types frequently, teammates to revenge kill them such as Choice Scarf Rotom-F and Electrode are useful.

Lumineon has the ability to set up Rain Dance and Tailwind, both of which allow its teammates to sweep the opposing team much more easily due to their extra power and/or Speed. U-turn allows Lumineon to pivot to the most appropriate teammate much more reliably than it could by just switching out. Waterfall is Lumineon's STAB move of choice due to its reliable accuracy, decent power, and nifty flinch rate; however, Lumineon still will not do much damage. Lastly, Toxic is a source of constant damage that allows Lumineon to cripple walls that can sponge its partner sweepers' attacks. Damp Rock and Swift Swim should be used if Lumineon is using Rain Dance to support the team, while Leftovers and Storm Drain are most helpful on Tailwind sets. Good partners for when Lumineon uses Rain Dance are Swift Swim sweepers, such as Ludicolo, Seismitoad, and Mantine, all of which can spam their high-powered STAB attacks with little to fear. Electric-types, such as Zebstrika, can take the Electric-type attacks aimed at Lumineon and use a high powered Thunder under rain. Lumineon can team with Liepard or Volbeat, as their Prankster ability is much better for setting up rain. Good partners for when Lumineon uses Tailwind are Choice Band Sawk, Rampardos, Golurk, and Charizard, all of which pack great power but are easily revenge killed outside of Tailwind.

While Lumineon is outclassed by basically every other Swift Swim abuser in rain (hey, at least she's better than Luvdisc!), and almost every other Water-type outside of rain, Lumineon's access to Rain Dance, Safeguard, and U-turn gives her a unique niche in the lead position as a Rain Dance supporter. With Lumineon's great Speed and decent bulk, she has few issues getting both Safeguard and Rain Dance up against most leads before U-turning to an appropriate Rain Dance abuser. Leads such as Uxie who attempt to spread paralysis can find their attempts futile due to Safeguard, and will even prove to be setup bait for some Rain Dance abusers. Additionally, fast Taunt leads such as Ambipom and Alakazam fail to do much to her as she can simply U-turn to a strong Pokemon to threaten them, and she can still set up Rain Dance later in the match. To top it all off, once Rain Dance has been used, Lumineon is actually surprisingly dangerous, as rain-boosted Surfs can still deal a large amount of damage to frail sweepers despite Lumineon's pitiful offensive prowess. Due to Lumineon's interesting Speed, different amounts of EV investment in Speed can be used with varying success. While max Speed is generally ideal to beat max base 90s such as Moltres, fewer Speed EVs can be used if you find that these Pokemon aren't particularly important to outspeed. 176 EVs allow Lumineon to outspeed all the Pokemon at the coveted Base 80 Speed mark outside of rain, which is a great overall mark for Lumineon to be just above. Due to this, it isn't particularly wise to use less Speed EVs than this, as otherwise Lumineon will be outsped by the omnipresent Venusaur. Leftover EVs can be placed in either defense depending on what you want Lumineon to switch in on. If you wish, you may use a Jolly nature with Waterfall instead of the recommended Timid nature and Surf to make U-turn slightly stronger, but this makes Lumineon's offense weaker due to Waterfall's lower Base Power. Since Lumineon is designed to set up Rain Dance, Pokemon who can use the rain to their advantage are necessary. Traditional Water-type abusers such as Kabutops, Gorebyss, Ludicolo, Omastar, and Qwilfish are all natural candidates due to their blistering Speed and absurdly powerful Water-type attacks under rain. However, since Lumineon herself is a Water-type, stacking your entire team with only other Water-types is less than ideal, since it makes it incredibly easy for a reasonably fast Grass-type such as Sceptile to sweep once the rain has stopped falling. To prevent this from happening, using alternative rain abusers, such as Electric-types with Thunder and Hidden Power Water, in addition to extra Rain Dance users who can cover some major weaknesses are useful. Rotom and Manectric are good choices, with great Speed and Special Attack to fully abuse 100% accurate Thunder with. As for alternative Rain Dance users, Registeel makes a good choice to take on deadly Grass-types while being bulky enough to last throughout the match to keep Rain Dance up.
