Kyogre Movesets & Wettbewerbs-Sets

Kyogre's high Special Attack, powerful rain-boosted Water-type attacks, and good bulk make it one of the biggest restricted threats. Water Spout is a devastating spread move, being able to OHKO the likes of Zacian-C, Calyrex-S, and Incineroar. Origin Pulse is a powerful, although inaccurate, backup to Water Spout after Kyogre has been harmed, while Scald is a weaker but consistent option with a chance to burn threats like Zacian-C. Ice Beam is mainly useful for Max Hailstorm, to let Kyogre best contend with the likes of Gigantamaxed Venusaur and Dynamaxed Dragapult, threatening a 2HKO on both. Alternatively, Thunder hits opposing Kyogre and turns into Max Lightning, blocking Yawn from Umbreon and Spore from Amoonguss but leaving Kyogre more vulnerable to Grass-types. Mystic Water boosts Kyogre's Water-type attacks with no drawbacks, as opposed to Life Orb's recoil lowering Water Spout's damage. A Timid nature allows Kyogre to outspeed Calyrex-S and Zacian-C at +1 from Tornadus's Max Airstream, as well outspeed them when they are at -1 from Regieleki's Electroweb, while Modest lets Kyogre OHKO Thundurus with Water Spout while also having a chance to OHKO Zacian-C. Tornadus is a staple partner to Kyogre, as it can offer speed control with Tailwind and Max Airstream and check Grass-types such as Venusaur and Rillaboom. In return, Kyogre's rain turns Hurricane into a sure-hit move. Dragapult helps handle threats to Kyogre like Venusaur and Regieleki and offers speed control with Max Airstream. Venusaur, although near requiring the support of the anti-synergistic Torkoal, is an amazing partner for Kyogre, as it checks Regieleki well, while Kyogre can help deal with Ground- and Fire-types such as Landorus-T and Incineroar. Grimmsnarl's dual screens support and speed control help Kyogre pressure the opponent more safely. Porygon2 can weaken threats to Kyogre such as Zapdos and Venusaur with Eerie Impulse and set Trick Room, meaning Kyogre should exchange its speed for bulk if paired with it. Incineroar can check Venusaur and Amoonguss for Kyogre and also offers Fake Out pressure. Regieleki pairs excellently with Kyogre, for it provides speed control with Electroweb while Kyogre can destroy Ground-types.

When Kyogre is at full HP, it should be using Water Spout in almost all cases, as the devastatingly strong and perfectly accurate attack is capable of OHKOing Zacian-C and Calyrex-S with ease at full power. Water Spout also serves as the base for Kyogre's Max Geyser, a powerful single target attack not reliant on its HP. Origin Pulse makes for a suitable alternate Water attack, as it also offers strong spread damage, though its shaky accuracy can be worrying. Thunder lets Kyogre hit opposing Water-types like Lapras, Blastoise, and other Kyogre for super effective damage. It can also use Max Lightning, which sets Electric Terrain, powering up subsequent Electric attacks and keeping it safe from Amoonguss's Spore. Ice Beam allows it to hit Grass-types for super effective damage as well as Palkia, Dialga, and Kyurem-W neutrally, though Max Hailstorm's effect of replacing rain with hail isn't nearly as useful in most cases. Mystic Water is Kyogre's best boosting item, since, unlike Choice Specs, it allows Kyogre to change moves and, unlike Life Orb, it doesn't drain any of its HP, crucial for keeping its Water Spout consistently strong. However, Life Orb makes Kyogre a monumental threat when Dynamaxed, giving it the strongest possible Max Geyser and boosting its other moves as well.

Water Spout is Kyogre's go-to move at full health, easily OHKOing Incineroar, Regieleki, and Calyrex-S. Should Kyogre need to Dynamax, it also provides the strongest possible Max Geyser. Origin Pulse is Kyogre's best backup Water move thanks to its high power and spread damage, becoming stronger than Water Spout once Kyogre is at 72% HP or less. Thunder and Ice Beam provide Kyogre with excellent coverage, with Thunder hitting Pokemon resistant to Water such as Lapras and opposing Kyogre, while Ice Beam can hit Grass-types like Amoonguss and Venusaur, as well as Gastrodon, which is immune to its other attacks. Choice Scarf allows Kyogre to outspeed Zacian-C and Calyrex-S without the need for any additional speed control, though a Timid nature is required to do this. Do note that Kyogre cannot outspeed Regieleki even with a Choice Scarf, so it will still need support to check it.

Choice Scarf Kyogre still possesses tremendous power with rain-boosted Water Spout and can use its newfound Speed tier to force out or revenge kill most unboosted foes. Water Spout is far and away Kyogre's most powerful attack and can OHKO most offensive Pokemon like Tapu Koko and Zeraora, and it still threatens to 2HKO a wide range of defensive stalwarts like Clefable without a boosting item. Origin Pulse provides Kyogre with a still-powerful STAB move after it has taken chip damage, but the drop in power and accuracy is very noticeable. It is often Kyogre's best option for cleaning late-game after it has taken chip damage. Thunder hits Water-types such as Volcanion, Tapu Fini, and opposing Kyogre for super effective damage, while Ice Beam allows it to revenge kill Rayquaza and Kommo-o, as well as fast Grass-types like Speed receiver Dhelmise and weakened Kartana. Without a damage-boosting item, however, Kyogre's coverage options lack power by Godly Gift standards and can still fail to 2HKO bulkier targets like Assault Vest Tangrowth. Choice Scarf Kyogre is a good revenge killer and secondary wallbreaker for balance and bulky offense teams, as it outspeeds all common unboosted Pokemon bar Regieleki and still possesses tremendous STAB power. Since Kyogre donates a powerful base 150 Special Attack but a measly base 90 Speed, it is easy to pair with a powerful special wallbreaker like Galarian Moltres to overwhelm the opposing defensive core, with Kyogre serving as the revenge killer and cleaner. Since Kyogre abhors chip damage, it loves to be brought in via pivoting from teammates like Rotom-W and Landorus-T. Both of them are also able to provide crucial Defog support, preventing entry hazards from cutting into Water Spout's power. Foes with Water Absorb and Storm Drain prevent Kyogre from freely using Water Spout, so teammates like Grass Knot Tapu Koko and Nidoqueen make great choices to overwhelm these threats. Bulky Grass-types like Assault Vest Tangrowth and Rillaboom stomach Water Spout, so teammates like Corviknight that can easily switch into both are recommended.

Choice Specs Kyogre may have fairly mediocre stats as a donor, but it is a fierce wallbreaker that utilizes rain-boosted Water Spout to break opposing teams in two. Full power Water Spout OHKOes or, more rarely, 2HKOes the vast majority of the metagame; its semi-reliable switch-ins are limited to Water Absorb or Storm Drain users and exceptionally bulky Pokemon that resist Water, like Slowbro and Assault Vest Tangrowth. Even gods that resist Water like Kyurem-W are at risk of getting OHKOed. Origin Pulse is a still-powerful backup option if Kyogre is low on health, but the drop in power and accuracy is noticeable. Thunder is useful for hitting Water-types, especially Volcanion and opposing Kyogre, and Ice Beam is its best option to hit the aforementioned bulky Grass-types, as well as Dragon-types like Giratina and Kommo-o. Toxic is another option to cripple Gastrodon on the switch. Since Kyogre is able to overwhelm most foes without resorting to coverage moves, Choice Specs is its best option to maximize damage. A Modest nature is preferred to improve damage rolls against targets like Kyurem-W, especially since Kyogre has a fairly poor Speed tier even with Timid, but Timid is an option to at worst Speed tie other base 90 Speed gods like Groudon and opposing Kyogre, as well as reliably outspeeding Excadrill. Choice Specs Kyogre is a pure wallbreaker and requires dedicated team support to make the most of its abilities. Especially since Water Spout decreases in power with every bit of chip damage, Kyogre strongly appreciates pivots like Tapu Koko and Landorus-T bringing it onto the field safely. Entry hazards also severely cut into its longevity and power, so reliable Defoggers like Tornadus-T and Corviknight make excellent teammates; they can pivot it in safely as well. Conversely, entry hazard support from teammates like Clefable and Ferrothorn helps put bulkier foes like Kyurem-W into KO range of Kyogre. While Kyogre's Water Spout can overwhelm even bulky threats that resist Water, it cannot touch Water Absorb and Storm Drain users; Gastrodon, in particular, is the bane of Kyogre's existence. Teammates that can overwhelm Gastrodon like Grass Knot Tapu Koko make excellent partners. Tapu Koko also helps overwhelm or wear down Tangrowth, another common Kyogre check. Tapu Koko and other fast cleaners can also finish up the opposing team once Kyogre has broken the defensive core.

Calm Mind Kyogre forgoes the immediate power of Water Spout and uses its titanic bulk to set up and overwhelm teams that cannot reliably threaten it, which includes many balance and stall teams. Scald is the STAB move of choice, as its excellent 30% burn chance deters would-be checks like Zeraora and Rillaboom from switching in. Several notable physical attackers are unable to break Kyogre's Substitute after a burn, like Garchomp and Weavile. Kyogre can also attempt to spread burns early in the game, as many teams won't be able to reliably 3HKO it if their primary physical attackers get burned. Calm Mind allows Kyogre to set up and overwhelm even the bulkiest of defensive cores, and after two boosts it is virtually impossible to 3HKO with special attacks. Rest is the primary option in the third moveslot to recover health and cure status, and it pairs excellently with Calm Mind's Special Defense boosts. Substitute is another option that blocks status in addition to Clear Smog, prevents phazing with Dragon Tail, and provides protection against critical hits, but it requires Kyogre to rely entirely on Leftovers for recovery. Ice Beam is Kyogre's best option for a secondary attack to hit Tangrowth and Gastrodon. Calm Mind Kyogre fits well on balance teams that want a bulky sweeper to overwhelm even the bulkiest of defensive cores. Unlike offensive Kyogre sets, Calm Mind Kyogre is able to boost past normal checks like Assault Vest Tangrowth lacking Power Whip and Gastrodon on its own, albeit at the cost of immediate power. Kyogre appreciates bulky teammates like Corviknight and Landorus-T that can switch into the Grass- and Electric-type attacks aimed at it, respectively. They both can also pivot Kyogre back onto the field to give it another chance to set up or fish for a burn. Kyogre is slow and also thus lacks a good Speed stat to donate, so strong revenge killers like Rillaboom are recommended; Rillaboom's Grassy Terrain also doubles Kyogre's passive recovery and aids in setup. Clerics like Clefable make great teammates, as they can either wake Kyogre after it uses Rest or remove an untimely Toxic that slipped in before Substitute.

Calm Mind Kyogre's great typing and relatively high natural bulk enable it to freely set up on a wide variety of defensive Pokemon such as Necrozma-DM, Zygarde-C, Ho-Oh, Lunala, and notably Kyurem-W and Eternatus lacking Dragon Tail, which otherwise check non-Calm Mind Kyogre sets. Scald is preferred as the main attack due to its higher PP and accuracy, and it notably can punish Ferrothorn and Eternatus with a burn. However, Origin Pulse has much higher initial power—OHKOing defensive Necrozma-DM and Ho-Oh after a single Calm Mind, helping Kyogre to avoid status. Ice Beam enables Kyogre to cleanly KO Eternatus once set up while also allowing it to serve as a reliable Zygarde-C check. Otherwise, Substitute can be chosen in order to set up on Ferrothorn lacking a Grass-type attack, avoid being phazed by Dragon Tail Eternatus and Kyurem-W, negate status, stall out Sheer Cold from Kyurem-W lacking Freeze-Dry and opposing Kyogre, and be less easily revenge killed by Zacian-C and Zekrom. If using Substitute, Scald is more strongly preferred over Origin Pulse as, after a burn and factoring in miss chances, Ferrothorn's Power Whip only has a 53% chance of breaking Kyogre's Substitute, while Bullet Seed variants fail to do so. Rest enables Kyogre to easily recover from status, making it unable to be harmed easily by common defensive Pokemon such as Ho-Oh, Necrozma-DM, and Eternatus, while Leftovers reduces its reliance on Rest. The given EV spread maximizes physical bulk, helping shrug off hits from Groudon and Zygarde-C, while enabling Kyogre to outspeed paralyzed Calyrex-S. Under Dynamax, Kyogre becomes incredibly hard to revenge kill, as its bulk reaches colossal levels—easily withstanding a Max Lightning from Zekrom. Calm Mind Kyogre fits on a variety of balance teams, as it absorbs status and checks Zygarde-C, and it threatens to easily sweep teams without Dragon Tail Eternatus, Blissey, Kyurem-W, or Ferrothorn. As such, teammates that are able to punish these foes, such as Zacian-C and Groudon, are appreciated. In return, Kyogre summons rain, weakening Necrozma-DM's recovery so Zacian-C can break through it far more easily, while easily punishing Zygarde-C for Groudon. Dracovish is another powerful teammate, easily capable of overwhelming shared checks, especially if Kyogre runs Thunder Wave in the third moveslot. Additionally, Ferrothorn and Yveltal can use Knock Off to cripple Eternatus and opposing Ferrothorn, making opposing Ferrothorn far easier for Kyogre to defeat when coupled with Scald burns. Yveltal can also switch into Calyrex-S in order to absorb Trick. Gothitelle is a valuable partner, capable of trapping and removing Ferrothorn, Blissey, and non-Dragon Tail Eternatus. Thunder Wave Ho-Oh lures in and cripples Eternatus while preventing opposing Ferrothorn from placing entry hazards. While Kyogre isn't easily revenge killed, once Dynamax has ended, it can be severely damaged by opposing Zekrom and Zacian-C, and so counterplay such as Groudon, Lunala, and Necrozma-DM or revenge killers such as Calyrex-S and Ditto are appreciated. Kyurem-W is capable of sponging Sheer Cold from opposing Kyurem-W and Kyogre.

With its good Special Attack stat and Drizzle on its side, Choice Scarf Kyogre can find many opportunities to revenge kill foes such as Calyrex-S, Dragon Dance Zygarde-C, Necrozma-DM, and Zacian-C. Water Spout allows Kyogre to OHKO foes such as Zacian-C, Calyrex-S, and unboosted Xerneas when at full health. Origin Pulse provides a good STAB move once Kyogre is too weakened for Water Spout, 2HKOing key foes such as Necrozma-DM, Zacian-C, and specially defensive Yveltal. Ice Beam forces out Dragon-types such as weakened defensive Eternatus, Zekrom, and Zygarde-C. Thunder deals heavy damage to other Kyogre and transformed Ditto, and is Kyogre's best move against Palkia. Choice Scarf Kyogre fits best on balance and bulky offense teams, as it can force out offensive leads like Zacian-C and Calyrex-S as well as defensive leads like Necrozma-DM and specially defensive Yveltal. Teammates like Zacian-C and Calyrex-S pressure Kyogre's counters such as Blissey, Ferrothorn, Kyurem-W, and Eternatus, with Nasty Plot Calyrex-S in particular being able to pass Special Attack boosts to Kyogre. In return, Kyogre can pressure their checks in Necrozma-DM or Yveltal, notably limiting Necrozma-DM's source of recovery with Drizzle. Defoggers such as Ho-Oh and specially defensive Yveltal help Kyogre remain at full health, with Ho-Oh in particular limiting Ferrothorn like no other. Pokemon such as Necrozma-DM, Groudon, and Ferrothorn can set up entry hazards, allowing Kyogre to pressure Eternatus, Kyurem-W, and Ferrothorn a lot better and OHKO Focus Sash Calyrex-S. Kyogre is incapable of reliably checking boosted Xerneas, Zygarde-C behind a Substitute, Groudon after a few Max Airstream boosts, and boosted Zekrom. Necrozma-DM and Zacian-C can prove to be useful for patching up the Xerneas matchup, while bulky Lunala can effectively limit all of Zygarde-C, Groudon, and Zekrom.

Choice Specs Kyogre is one of the most threatening wallbreakers in AG due to its solid Special Attack stat, outstanding movepool, and Drizzle, allowing it to dismantle weakened teams or teams lacking a sturdy Water-resistant Pokemon. Water Spout is Kyogre's most spammable move at full health and can even 2HKO otherwise-reliable checks such as Ferrothorn, Giratina, and Chansey. However, Kyogre should only attempt to 2HKO Ferrothorn on a switch, since it will risk being worn down by Leech Seed or getting heavily damaged by Power Whip. Origin Pulse is run for when Kyogre is weakened but still hits very hard, although it misses out on the aforementioned 2HKOs. Ice Beam hits Giratina, Zekrom, and Rayquaza and OHKOes offensive Eternatus after Stealth Rock damage on the switch. Thunder nails opposing Kyogre, 2HKOes Lapras and offensive Palkia, and forces Ditto to lock into it, while also being consistent under Kyogre's rain. A Timid nature with maximum Speed investment allows Kyogre to outspeed unboosted Xerneas and Rash or Modest Yveltal, outspeed Calyrex-S and Jolly Zacian-C with Sticky Web support, and Speed tie with offensive Groudon. Kyogre is best used as an early-game wallbreaker due to its ability to force out foes like Necrozma-DM, Ho-Oh, Tyranitar, and Zygarde-C while weakening traditional checks like Blissey and Ferrothorn for its teammates. It's often vital to keep Kyogre as healthy as possible so it can maximize Water Spout's power and spam it against the opposing team. Kyogre's best fit is on hyper offense teams, but it can also find a spot on bulky offense teams. On hyper offense teams, Kyogre greatly appreciates Sticky Web from Shuckle, which allows it to outspeed more threats such as Calyrex-S and Zacian-C. It also likes Excadrill setting Stealth Rock as well as clearing entry hazards with Rapid Spin so Kyogre can stay as healthy as possible. Teammates that can deal with Water-resistant Pokemon like Eternatus, Palkia, Ferrothorn, and Giratina, such as Zacian-C, Xerneas, and Eternatus, are appreciated. Zacian-C and Xerneas benefit from Kyogre's rain, as it weakens Necrozma-DM's Morning Sun, making it a less effective check against the two. Pokemon like Life Orb Yveltal, Calyrex-S, and Groudon appreciate Kyogre pressuring their checks like Tyranitar, Yveltal, and Zygarde-C, respectively. In return, they are able to defeat the aforementioned checks to Kyogre. On bulky offense teams without Sticky Web, Kyogre's teammates must be able to check fast threats. For example, Yveltal can check Calyrex-S, and Necrozma-DM can check Zacian-C. Kyogre also greatly appreciates paralysis support from teammates like Thunder Wave Necrozma-DM, Ho-Oh, and Glare Zygarde-C allowing it to outspeed more threats.

Primal Kyogre can effectively run a defensive set as well, completely shutting down most defensive staples in Ho-Oh, Necrozma-DM, support Arceus formes, and Zygarde-C in the process. As this Primal Kyogre set is designed for longer games, Scald is the preferred STAB move of choice, as it has perfect accuracy and more PP than Origin Pulse. It also has a considerable chance to cripple the likes of Necrozma-DM, Ferrothorn, and Mega Rayquaza with a burn. Rest provides Primal Kyogre with a source of recovery while also curing status ailments from support Arceus forms, Ho-Oh, and Necrozma-DM, which turns it into an effective status absorber. Sleep Talk is recommended in order to prevent Primal Kyogre being a momentum drain when asleep and to avoid being safe setup fodder for dangerous Pokemon such as Xerneas and Dragon Dance Zygarde-C. As a side note, this is also useful against sleep inducers such as Smeargle and Vivillon. Alternatively, Ice Beam gradually damages Primal Groudon throughout a battle. It also provides a strong hit against Zygarde-C, Mega Rayquaza, and Eternatus. Toxic is recommended in order to put the likes of Xerneas, Yveltal, and Mega Rayquaza on a timer, while greatly pressuring non-Rest Primal Groudon. Alternatively, Calm Mind allows Primal Kyogre to combat Eternatus, Amoonguss, and most Calm Mind Arceus formes in a 1v1 scenario, while also turning it into a potent wincon and making it progressively more difficult to break with special attackers. As Primal Kyogre is a naturally specially bulky Pokemon, a Bold nature in conjunction with fully physically defensive investment greatly improves Primal Kyogre's overall bulk, notably allowing it to take a Choice Band-boosted Dragon Ascent from Mega Rayquaza and two Precipice Blades from uninvested Primal Groudon and more comfortably switch into Brave Bird from Ho-Oh and Thousand Arrows from Zygarde-C. Primal Kyogre fits best on balance and bulky offensive teams seeking a status absorber as well as a way to shut down a majority of the defensive metagame. Primal Groudon, especially with Rest, is the most annoying obstacle for Primal Kyogre, as it can switch into its attacks with impunity and force it out with a strong Precipice Blades. Thus, Pokemon that can check it, such as Arceus-Ground and Zygarde-C, as well as wallbreakers that can overwhelm or take advantage of it, such as Zacian-C, Yveltal, and Mega Rayquaza, are prudent teammates. Primal Kyogre is prone to strong physical attackers such as Mega Rayquaza and Zacian-C. Therefore, physical walls such as Zygarde-C and Necrozma-DM are recommended teammates. Moreover, Necrozma-DM can also check Xerneas, which can otherwise use Primal Kyogre as setup fodder if it lacks Toxic or gets an unfavorable Sleep Talk roll. Setup sweepers, in general, are an annoyance due to the potential free turns they may get against a sleeping Primal Kyogre, so strong anti-setup measures such as Ditto and Haze Zygarde-C fit well. Ferrothorn is especially troublesome to this set, as it can use this Primal Kyogre variant as an opportunity to lay multiple layers of Spikes. For this reason, strong entry hazard control from the likes of Ho-Oh and Mega Diancie, as well as strong means of pressuring Ferrothorn with the likes of Primal Groudon and Eternatus, are good choices as well. Chansey and the aforementioned Mega Diancie are valuable partners that can provide cleric support and deal with dangerous threats like Xerneas and Yveltal, respectively, that may try to take advantage of a sleeping Kyogre.

Water Spout is the primary source of Kyogre's damage output, OHKOing almost any non-Dynamaxed Pokemon that doesn’t resist it while Kyogre is healthy and rain is in effect. Origin Pulse is a secondary STAB option for use when Kyogre has been weakened by entry hazards or opposing attacks. Owing to its weaker power, it is less likely to get key KOs, notably missing the OHKO on Zacian-C, but it is still potent. Thunder, with its perfect accuracy under rain, enables Kyogre to take on opposing Kyogre and Arceus-Water, dealing heavy damage and threatening paralysis. Ice Beam enables Kyogre to OHKO or heavily damage Dragon-types such as Eternatus, Zygarde-C, and Mega Rayquaza, all of which are very common in the metagame, and deals chip damage to Primal Groudon. Choice Scarf with a Timid nature enables Kyogre to outspeed almost the entire unboosted metagame. Kyogre is capable of utilizing Dynamax to break through many common Pokemon that have switched into one of its coverage moves; for example, it can use Max Hailstorm to break through Primal Groudon that switched into any of Thunder, Origin Pulse, and Water Spout, Max Lightning to break Arceus-Water that switched into any of Ice Beam, Origin Pulse, and Water Spout, or Max Geyser to break Zacian-C that have switched into Ice Beam. The added bulk also lets it tank attacks like Primal Groudon's Precipice Blades, Mega Rayquaza's Dragon Ascent, and Zacian-C's Wild Charge if healthy. Ideal teammates for Choice Scarf Kyogre are Pokemon such as Arceus-Ground and defensive Zygarde-C that can easily deal with Primal Groudon, as well as checking Mega Rayquaza, and Pokemon such as Mega Rayquaza, Zacian-C, and Mega Gengar to remove Ferrothorn and allow Kyogre to clean more easily. Zacian-C is also useful because it can wear down opposing Primal Groudon, which is a shared check between Zacian-C and Kyogre. Ferrothorn is also an effective teammate owing to its ability to stack Spikes, making it increasingly difficult for Primal Groudon to switch in, and its ability to Imposter proof Kyogre, even if Ditto Dynamaxes.

Primal Kyogre is a premier wallbreaker in AG due to a phenomenal Special Attack stat, access to strong STAB moves and colorful coverage, a great ability, and sufficient Speed. Said characteristics give Primal Kyogre a terrifyingly positive matchup against the defensive metagame, allowing it to easily threaten an OHKO on defensive metagame staples such as Necrozma-DM, Zygarde-C, and Ho-Oh. To compound on this, good natural bulk and a great defensive typing also allow it to aggressively switch into common defensive Pokemon such as Arceus-Ground, Necrozma-DM, and Ho-Oh. Origin Pulse provides Primal Kyogre with a strong STAB move to pressure common defensive Pokemon such as Ho-Oh, Necrozma-DM, and Tyranitar. Ice Beam is mandatory in order to chip down and pressure Primal Groudon in the long run. It is also Primal Kyogre’s best option against Dragon-types such as Eternatus and Mega Rayquaza and another check in Amoonguss. Calm Mind lets Kyogre break walls like Arceus-Water and win duels against Calm Mind Arceus formes if it's healthy enough. It can be used to pull off a late-game sweep once offensive checks like Marshadow, Mega Rayquaza, and Ultra Necrozma have been removed. Water Spout is an extremely powerful wallbreaking tool that allows Kyogre to muscle through some of its usual checks. Full-powered Modest Water Spout has a small chance to 2HKO Ferrothorn unboosted and 2HKOes Chansey and Blissey at +1, letting Kyogre break stall teams. Thunder hits Water-types like opposing Kyogre, Arceus-Water, and Toxapex. It also has perfect accuracy in rain, which can help out against Pokemon with evasion boosts under their belt, such as those on Baton Pass teams. Substitute can be used alongside Calm Mind, giving Kyogre the ability to set up on slow Arceus formes, support Necrozma-DM, and Ferrothorn lacking a Grass-type attack. Set Details 72 Defense EVs let Kyogre survive Precipice Blades from Jolly Primal Groudon after Stealth Rock damage, as well as Precipice Blades from Adamant Primal Groudon, Brave Bird from Life Orb Ho-Oh, and Dragon Ascent from Choice Scarf Mega Rayquaza from full health. Maximum Speed investment lets Kyogre at worst Speed tie with Primal Groudon and Ho-Oh with a matching Speed nature. A Timid nature is also viable to Speed tie with faster variants of Primal Groudon, Ho-Oh, and opposing Kyogre. If using this set with Substitute, an EV spread of 136 Def / 120 SpA / 252 Spe with a Timid nature is recommended; this prevents Ferrothorn's Gyro Ball from breaking Kyogre's Substitute and lets Kyogre outspeed slow Arceus formes. Alternatively, a basic EV spread of 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe with a Modest nature gives Kyogre a slightly higher chance to 2HKO Ferrothorn with full-powered Water Spout. Usage Tips Against bulkier teams, secure damage on Kyogre's checks early-game so that it will be harder to switch into later. Ice Beam chips at an incoming Primal Groudon, and using Water Spout or Substitute + Calm Mind will weaken Ferrothorn. Double switching to a wallbreaker like Mega Rayquaza, Ultra Necrozma, or Marshadow on these targets can also be beneficial. If Primal Groudon is the opponent's primary switch-in to Kyogre, Ice Beam is a good midground play versus foes like Yveltal and Arceus-Ground. Use Calm Mind or Substitute to take advantage of forced switches. However, use Calm Mind sparingly if revenge killers like Mega Rayquaza, Ultra Necrozma, and Marshadow are still alive; they can easily revenge kill Kyogre if it's not behind a Substitute. Kyogre can win duels against Calm Mind Arceus formes if it's healthy enough; switch into Pokemon like Arceus-Steel as they go for their first Calm Mind boost, and then use Calm Mind alongside them until they attack Kyogre. Kyogre and the Arceus forme will have accumulated an equal number of Calm Mind boosts at this point, so during the next turn, Origin Pulse will outdamage their recovery move. Setting entry hazards beforehand assists Kyogre's wallbreaking efforts. A layer of Spikes gives Kyogre a good chance to 2HKO Ferrothorn with Water Spout and 2HKO offensive Primal Groudon with Ice Beam. Stealth Rock limits Mega Rayquaza, which is likely to claim a KO or otherwise massively dent something every time it gets a free switch into Kyogre. Team Options Mega Rayquaza is a great offensive partner that preys on many defensive stops to Kyogre, including Primal Groudon, Ferrothorn, and special walls like Blissey and Chansey. Entry hazard support is great for wearing down Kyogre's checks; Primal Groudon, Necrozma-DM, and various support Arceus formes provide Stealth Rock support, while Ferrothorn and Skarmory provide Spikes support and appreciate Kyogre covering their Fire-type weakness. A solid switch-in to Primal Groudon is appreciated, as Kyogre will be unable to 2HKO it if Desolate Land is active, and Groudon can use it as setup fodder or deal heavy damage to it with Precipice Blades. Mega Rayquaza, defensive Zygarde-C, and Arceus-Ground are all capable of taking hits from Primal Groudon and revenge killing it. Other Ground-immune Pokemon like Ho-Oh and Yveltal can work too, but they are hit hard by Primal Groudon's other moves. Arceus-Fairy and Choice Scarf Xerneas can check many of the fast attackers that threaten Kyogre, including Mega Rayquaza, Ultra Necrozma, and Marshadow. In return, Kyogre puts immense pressure on many Steel-types like Necrozma-DM and Arceus-Steel and weakens Primal Groudon for them. Celesteela and Skarmory check Ultra Necrozma and are particularly helpful for dealing with Choice item variants of Mega Rayquaza, which is unlikely to use V-create into Kyogre. Kyogre can also switch into Primal Groudon for these Pokemon on the predicted use of Stealth Rock or a Fire-type move. Moves The HP-dependent Water Spout is Kyogre's primary STAB move, as it takes advantage of the blinding Speed granted by Choice Scarf to clean up foes with large spread damage before they can strike. Origin Pulse is also used because it allows Kyogre to still deal significant spread damage if it has sustained prior injury and Water Spout is therefore weaker. Ice Beam nails Dragon- and Grass-types such as Mega Salamence, Rayquaza, and Amoonguss, which resist Water-type attacks. Hydro Pump grants significant single-target damage as a means of bypassing Wide Guard. It also OHKOes Mega Kangaskhan in the rain. Thunder deals with opposing Kyogre and Lapras. Scald functions as a more accurate, but weaker, alternative to Hydro Pump that also has a chance to burn checks like Ferrothorn. Set Details This set is relatively straightforward. Choice Scarf is chosen because it's the only viable item on non-Primal Kyogre, and with it, Kyogre becomes a powerful cleaner. Items other than Blue Orb simply do not grant as much benefit as Choice Scarf does. Maximum Special Attack EVs and a Modest nature are used in order to bolster Kyogre's damage output as much as possible. The remaining EVs are then dumped into Speed to make it as fast as possible. Team Options Rayquaza is a mandatory teammate, as Primal Groudon otherwise hard counters Choice Scarf Kyogre. Drizzle cannot override Desolate Land, so Choice Scarf Kyogre cannot revenge kill Primal Groudon under these conditions. Quick Guard users such as Talonflame and Crobat protect Kyogre from dangerous priority moves that look to take advantage of its poor Defense stat and its reliance on Speed. Some of these threatening moves include Mega Kangaskhan's Fake Out and Sucker Punch, Mega Mawile's Sucker Punch, Thundurus's Thunder Wave, and Mega Rayquaza's Extreme Speed. Talonflame and Crobat can also provide Tailwind support, ensuring that Kyogre will maintain its Speed advantage against foes under their Tailwind. Feint users such as Weavile, Hitmontop, and Raichu are recommended to break Wide Guard, allowing Kyogre to fire off Water Spout freely. Trick Room countermeasures are also important for this Kyogre set, as it's extremely vulnerable to Trick Room. Amoonguss can threaten Trick Room teams thanks to its low Speed and Spore, and it supports Kyogre by redirecting damage away with Rage Powder.

Moves Spread Water-type attacks are a staple on Primal Kyogre, with its two best options being Water Spout and Origin Pulse. Water Spout is the stronger attack at maximum HP, with a Base Power of 150, but its power decreases with Primal Kyogre's HP. Origin Pulse has a unvarying 110 Base Power, but its 85 percent accuracy makes it riskier. Ice Beam allows Primal Kyogre to still chunk threats while Desolate Land is negating its Water-type attacks, in addition to threatening KOs on Dragons such as Mega Rayquaza and Mega Salamence. Thunder allows Primal Kyogre to deal heavy damage to opposing Primal Kyogre as well as obscure Primal Kyogre checks such as Lapras and Ludicolo. If running Thunder, it is recommended to have Origin Pulse instead of Water Spout, as Primal Kyogre appreciates both a consistent STAB move and a spread move. Scald is an option should you fear Wide Guard or want a STAB move with invariable Base Power and 100% accuracy. Protect allows Primal Kyogre to be shielded for a turn so that it may scout for moves, block Fake Out, and stall out opposing field conditions. Set Details Blue Orb is used primarily to deal with Primal Groudon's Desolate Land by replacing it with Primordial Sea. Defensively, the EVs prevent an OHKO from Raichu's Zap Plate-boosted Volt Tackle and Mega Rayquaza's Choice Band-boosted Dragon Ascent the majority of the time, in addition to making Jolly Primal Groudon's Precipice Blades a 3HKO. 76 Special Attack EVs ensure that Water Spout will OHKO uninvested Mega Kangaskhan. When not using Water Spout, maximizing Defense is recommended to make Yveltal's Black Glasses-boosted Foul Play a 3HKO and to minimize the chance that both Adamant Primal Groudon's Precipice Blades and Talonflame's Life Orb-boosted Brave Bird will 2HKO. A Modest nature is used to boost Primal Kyogre's damage output. It's also required to 2HKO opposing Primal Kyogre with Thunder. A Quiet nature and 0 Speed IVs can be used instead to outrun as many foes as possible under Trick Room. Other EV spreads are viable too. For example, 252 HP / 60 Def / 196 SpA lets Primal Kyogre survive Mega Rayquaza's Life Orb-boosted Dragon Ascent and OHKO uninvested Xerneas with Water Spout. Bold and Relaxed natures may also be considered, as both grant even more physical bulk, ensuring that not even Adamant Primal Groudon's Precipice Blades can 2HKO. They also allow survival against combination attacks such as Jolly Mega Kangaskhan's Double-Edge with Timid Primal Groudon's Earth Power, or a Sucker Punch from both Life Orb Yveltal and Mega Mawile. When Primal Kyogre is utilized with Icy Wind support, other Speed benchmarks can be considered. 12 Speed EVs ensure that it can outrun base 100s after an Icy Wind, and 132 EVs allow Primal Kyogre to outrun -1 Mega Salamence. Usage Tips Try to keep Primal Kyogre in the back if you spot Primal Groudon at Team Preview. You want to look for opportunities to send Primal Kyogre in against Primal Groudon in order to win the weather war. Primal Groudon will most likely try to do the same, so try to bait it out by using Pokemon such as Ferrothorn and Thundurus. Be careful of its powerful Precipice Blades when switching in, though; having an Intimidate partner such as Salamence or Landorus-T switch in prior can help soften the blow significantly. If your opponent lacks a Primal Groudon, or if you have weather-canceling Pokemon such as Rayquaza on your team, Primal Kyogre can instead be lead aggressively to exert pressure early. When a possible Wide Guard user is on the field, play it safe and opt for single-target attacks. Team Options Partnering Primal Kyogre with checks to Primal Groudon is necessary given that it's Primal Kyogre's greatest opposition. Landorus-T is effective in this role given that it hits Primal Groudon super effectively, is immune to Ground thanks to its Flying typing, and has Intimidate to soften Primal Groudon's physical attacks. Primal Groudon itself can also pair well with Primal Kyogre, since this grants you maximum weather control, and their high bulk opens up a great deal of switching potential. Primal Groudon covers Primal Kyogre's weakness to Electric and can eliminate Ferrothorn easily, and Primal Kyogre helps take on Water-type attacks when the sunlight isn't up in addition to threatening opposing Ground-types with its STAB moves. The challenge of using such a duo is to ensure that Primal Groudon's Desolate Land won't cripple Primal Kyogre, and vice versa. While Primal Kyogre has access to Ice Beam, checks to Grass-types such as Amoonguss are still welcome. Flying-types such as Rayquaza, Mega Salamence, and Talonflame are the main candidates for this, as they're able to check them offensively with their potent STAB moves. The former two are particularly useful, as they also check Primal Groudon. Rayquaza can negate the effects of harsh sunlight with Air Lock and Delta Stream and deal great damage with Draco Meteor, and Mega Salamence can Intimidate Primal Groudon and hit it hard with Hyper Voice. Mega Salamence and Talonflame also join other Flying-types such as Crobat and Togekiss in their potential to provide Tailwind support, which is valuable given Primal Kyogre's otherwise middling Speed stat. Finally, Zapdos, while unable to check Grass-types, can also provide Tailwind support and can deal with Water-types, which Primal Kyogre might otherwise struggle to damage. Thundurus is another Electric-type that can provide speed control in the form of Thunder Wave. It also joins Zapdos in being a great user of Hidden Power Water, which KOs Primal Groudon when Primal Kyogre or Rayquaza is switched in. Gengar is another good Hidden Power Water user and can provide speed control with the likes of Icy Wind, which is able to affect both foes at once. Cresselia likewise makes a great user of Icy Wind and, further, gets access to other forms of speed control such as Thunder Wave and Trick Room. Trick Room in general is a great answer to Primal Kyogre's middling Speed stat because it generally prefers to be run slow and bulky anyway. Dialga, Palkia, Gothitelle, and Bronzong are all viable alternative setters should you prefer any of them. Dialga is notable because it provides a switch-in and check to Electric-type attackers. Palkia loves the boost from rain, as it powers it up to such an extent that it can even OHKO unboosted Xerneas with a Life Orb-boosted Hydro Pump. Gothitelle's Shadow Tag is able to trap in foes and lock down the weather, similarly to Mega Gengar. Finally, Bronzong, as a Steel-type, appreciates Primal Kyogre's Primordial Sea ability thanks to it nullifying one of its weaknesses in Fire. Bronzong also joins Cresselia in having access to Skill Swap, which, when used on Primal Kyogre, will reset the weather in its favor and make Primal Kyogre immune to Ground. Bronzong is also not the only Steel-type that enjoys having its weakness to Fire temporarily eliminated. Ferrothorn and Mega Mawile are otherwise difficult to handle under heavy rain, and both are able to OHKO Xerneas with their Steel-type STAB moves even after a Geomancy boost, since they're physical attackers. They also both function excellently under Trick Room.

Moves Scald gives Primal Kyogre some offensive presence and can threaten switch-ins with burns. Roar allows it to phaze foes, which works well in conjunction with entry hazards and prevents it from being setup fodder, although Ice Beam can be used to let Primal Kyogre do damage to opposing Dragon-types and Primal Groudon. Rest keeps Kyogre healthy throughout longer matches, while Sleep Talk prevents it from being totally useless while asleep. Set Details Near-maximum HP and maximum Defense investment with a Bold nature make Primal Kyogre as physically defensive as possible to better take on threats such as Swords Dance Arceus-Ground and Primal Groudon. The Speed investment lets Primal Kyogre outspeed Timid Diancie before it Mega Evolves. Usage Tips Primal Kyogre is an excellent status absorber thanks to Rest and can be used as a switch-in to foes such as Klefki and Lugia. It can check many strong attackers such as Darkrai, Diancie, and Primal Groudon, but it needs to stay healthy by using Rest frequently in order to be at a high enough health to take their attacks. Additionally, be wary of the occasional Taunt Darkrai, which can use Kyogre as setup fodder. Use Scald a lot versus teams lacking Primal Groudon in order to spread burns across them. Team Options Defensive Primal Kyogre fits best on stall or semi-stall teams with teammates to handle its checks and counters, so pair it with common defensive Pokemon such as Lugia and Mega Sableye. Primal Groudon checks such as Latias and Giratina-O are essential, as it can use Kyogre as setup fodder, and Pokemon that can handle Dragon-types such as Mega Scizor and Aegislash are useful fallbacks for it. Hazard removers such as support Arceus formes prevent Kyogre from being worn down by the chip damage, while your own entry hazards help Primal Kyogre rack up extra damage with with Roar. Clerics such as Xerneas and Clefable can wake up Kyogre early, making it less reliant on Sleep Talk rolls to deal with foes.

Moves Origin Pulse is Primal Kyogre's main attack and does massive damage to anything without a resistance and high special bulk when boosted by heavy rain. Thunder hits Lugia and opposing Water-types such as Arceus-Water and helps check evasion boosters with its perfect accuracy under rain. Ice Beam is Primal Kyogre's only coverage move for Dragon-types such as Mega Rayquaza and Giratina-O. Sleep Talk allows Primal Kyogre to check Darkrai lacking Taunt, although Calm Mind can be used to break through stall teams more quickly. Set Details Maximum Special Attack investment and a Modest nature allow Primal Kyogre to hit with as much power as possible. 76 Speed EVs allow it to outspeed uninvested Yveltal and Xerneas, while the remaining EVs are dumped into HP to augment its natural bulk. Usage Tips Primal Kyogre is primarily used as a strong early-game wallbreaker to wear down teams for a late-game sweep by a teammate. It does not carry much late-game utility due to its poor Speed and lack of resistances, making it easy to sweep through. Kyogre should only set up Calm Minds if the extra power is needed to break through extremely bulky targets such as Lugia; the power is generally unnecessary versus offensive teams. If the power provided by Calm Mind is needed, try to set up on bulkier Pokemon that cannot do significant damage to Primal Kyogre such as Arceus-Steel and defensive Dialga. Avoid setting up on potential Toxic users such as Yveltal if possible, as the status makes Kyogre far easier to stall out. If facing teams with Primal Groudon, be extremely careful about going for Origin Pulse and potentially giving it a free switch in. Kyogre should attempt to be the one switching into Primal Groudon as it goes for a Fire-type move or Stealth Rock so it can get off a free hit under the heavy rain, but it needs to be careful about taking a Precipice Blades or Earthquake. Kyogre can also switch into Ho-Oh's Sacred Fire, but it cannot easily take a STAB Brave Bird. Team Options Setup sweepers such as Swords Dance Arceus formes and Geomancy Xerneas can take advantage of Primal Kyogre's ability to demolish opposing walls to sweep late-game. Checks to Primal Groudon such as Giratina-O and Arceus-Water are essential, as it can switch into Kyogre and threaten it out or KO it. Checks to Dragon-types like Mega Rayquaza and Latias are also valued, as they give Primal Kyogre a teammate to fall back on when it is forced out. Klefki is a notable partner for providing paralysis support to slow down faster threats, checking Dragon-types and even luring Primal Groudon and crippling it with Toxic. Although Electric- and Grass-types are very rare in Anything Goes, checks to them such as Arceus-Ground and Primal Groudon can still be useful, both of which also appreciate Kyogre's wallbreaking capabilities. Ferrothorn can be very difficult for Kyogre to break through, so teammates that can defeat it such as Ho-Oh are useful.

Moves Water Spout is Kyogre's strongest move when it's at high health and can let it sweep through opposing teams if Kyogre is at high enough health. Origin Pulse acts as a secondary STAB move for when Kyogre is at an amount of health where Water Spout is weaker. Sheer Cold nets KOs versus would-be counters such as Primal Groudon, but it can be unreliable, with only about a 50/50 chance to beat slower foes on the switch. Thunder hits Water-types such as Arceus-Water and opposing Kyogre, while Ice Beam hits Primal Groudon and Dragon-types harder than anything else Kyogre has but is hard to fit on its set. Set Details Choice Scarf allows Kyogre to outspeed the entire unboosted metagame aside from Deoxys-A. Maximum Speed and Special Attack investment allows it to function as a cleaner and revenge killer more effectively. A Modest nature is preferred for the extra power, although Timid is a possibility to beat Choice Scarf Kyurem-W and Deoxys-A. Usage Tips Kyogre functions primarily as a revenge killer or late-game sweeper when its checks have been worn down or removed; bringing it in earlier risks it being weakened, making Water Spout a less effective cleaning tool. In particular, Primal Groudon needs to have been KOed for this set to be effective, as it is immune to Kyogre's strongest attacks. If counters such as Zekrom and Primal Groudon have not been sufficiently weakened and Kyogre lacks Ice Beam, its best chance is to attempt to hit Sheer Cold. Avoid using Water Spout when facing priority users such as Yveltal and Arceus, as Kyogre can be weakened with priority prior to attacking, significantly lowering its power. Kyogre is normally better at threatening special Arceus formes and other special attackers that do not carry priority, as most of the physical attackers in the tier have priority of one kind or the other. Also avoid Choice-locking Kyogre into a Water-type attack if the opponent has a healthy Mega Rayquaza or Primal Groudon, which can use it as setup fodder. Team Options Checks to Primal Groudon and Dragon-types, such as Arceus-Ground and Xerneas, are essential, as they need to be weakened or KOed for Kyogre to sweep. Entry hazard removal helps keep Kyogre healthy for Water Spout to be at maximum power, while entry hazard support of your own from Pokemon such as Primal Groudon and Scolipede helps weaken its checks more quickly. Checks to priority users such as Arceus and Yveltal, such as Skarmory and Arceus-Fairy, can take priority Extreme Speeds or Sucker Punches aimed at Kyogre. Although rare, Healing Wish users such as Latias and Shaymin-S can give Kyogre a second chance to sweep with Water Spout if it's been weakened.

Moves Quiver Dance boosts Kyogre's already high Special Attack and Special Defense stats along with its Speed. Scald is preferred over Steam Eruption because it has much higher PP, and as a result, it can be spammed to spread burns. Scald is also useful against Imposter users because their moves will have 5 PP each. Scald burns weaken physical attackers, making up for Kyogre's low Defense, and it also wears down walls that Kyogre cannot easily defeat, such as Giratina and Fur Coat Chansey. The third moveslot is dedicated to either an Ice- or Fairy-type coverage move or Leech Seed. Ice Beam has 100% accuracy and can KO Dragon-types and OHKO Mega Rayquaza without any prior boosts, while Moonblast can defeat Water-types such as Palkia and Mega Gyarados. Moonblast, though, does have the disadvantage of having a chance to lower Kyogre's Special Attack if an Imposter user uses it and also makes Kyogre vulnerable to Lucky Punch Imposter Chansey. Leech Seed can be used to deal with Shedinja and to defeat Imposter users such as Chansey and Blissey since they have higher HP than Kyogre. King's Shield enables Kyogre to be able to defeat -ate users in addition to giving a free turn of passive recovery from Poison Heal. It also allows Kyogre to scout for the foe's moveset but does not block status such as sleep and burn from moves such as Spore and Will-O-Wisp if Toxic Orb has not been activated yet. Leech Seed is also a good option for this moveslot if a coverage move was selected for the third moveslot. Set Details Toxic Orb allows Kyogre to activate Poison Heal, which prevents status conditions and also provides passive recovery. 248 EVs are invested into HP to increase Kyogre's longevity and minimize Stealth Rock damage taken. A Bold nature along with 80 Defense EVs allows Kyogre to survive the Fake Out + Extreme Speed combination from Aerilate Mega Rayquaza with Sky Plate without even using King's Shield (after Poison Heal Recovery). Alternatively, a Modest nature along with 40 Defense EVs can be run if King's Shield is chosen as one of the moves to ensure surviving an Extreme Speed from a Life Orb Mega Rayquaza. The other 40 EV points can either be dumped into Special Attack or Special Defense. 180 Special Defense EVs guarantees that Kyogre will survive a Boomburst from a Life Orb Mega Rayquaza without fainting. A more offensive spread such as 248 HP / 40 Def / 72 SpA / 148 Spe can also be used with a Timid nature (preferably alongside King's Shield) to enable Kyogre to outspeed up to positive-natured Mega Mewtwo Y after a single Quiver Dance boost. Usage Tips Bring Kyogre in with a slow pivot to safely activate Poison Heal. This is absolutely crucial because Kyogre cannot afford to lose its Toxic Orb via moves such as Knock Off and Trick or get statused. Kyogre can easily set up on walls after activating Poison Heal; however, be wary of Trick users, as they can easily cripple Kyogre by tricking a Choice item onto it. Use Scald to burn walls that will use a phazing move to get some chip damage on them and wear them down. King's Shield should be used to weaken physical attackers, get a free turn of passive recovery, or scout for movesets. Be wary of opponents that could predict this and take that opportunity to set up. Kyogre can be brought in on walls such as Giratina or even bulky attackers such as Mega Tyranitar to set up; however, make sure that Toxic Orb has already been activated so that Kyogre does not risk getting statused. Leech Seed, the primary way of dealing with Shedinja, should also be used to defeat Imposter users, as their HP is higher than Kyogre's. Try to use Kyogre in the late-game after your wallbreakers have weakened the opponent's walls to set up and sweep. Setting up in the early-game mostly results in Kyogre being forced out, so it is better to just go for Scald burns early on. Team Options Kyogre appreciates wallbreakers such as Mega Latios, Mega Mewtwo X, and -ate users such as Mega Rayquaza to break down walls, as Kyogre is easily forced out by most of them. Kyogre also requires some support to be able to defeat Primal Groudon, which can set up on this set. Bulky attackers such as Mega Garchomp and Mega Swampert are good offensive answers, while physical walls such as Fur Coat Giratina and Mega Slowbro are more defensive approaches. Additionally, defensive Pokemon such as Giratina and Mega Slowbro can help deal with the physical attackers that Kyogre normally has trouble with.
