Whiscash can threaten core Pokemon like both Stunfisk formes, Qwilfish, and Articuno with its decent coverage options. However, mixed attackers like Silvally-Poison and Silvally-Fighting can perform these roles but better due to their higher Speed and better coverage options, making them superior options to run over Whiscash.

This set attempts to set up Dragon Dance on Pokemon that can't immediately KO Whiscash such as Skuntank and Alolan Sandslash and attempt to sweep the opponent's team. However, due to its underwhelming offensive presence and lack of good coverage, Whiscash is an awful choice for a setup sweeper. Instead, one could go with a more consistent Shell Smash sweeper such as Carracosta or Omastar. Carracosta and Omastar are better sweepers not only because they have good coverage and can beat Pokemon that would normally check them, but also because of their better offensive and defensive stats. These two Shell Smash users also have better bulk and are much harder to revenge kill than Whiscash, resulting in them being much better choices for sweepers.

Moves Dragon Dance increases Whiscash's Attack and Speed. Earthquake is Whiscash's strongest move, hitting Water-types that resist Waterfall such as Politoed and Simipour. Waterfall is Whiscash's primary STAB move, hitting for solid damage with a chance to make the foe flinch. Stone Edge provides great coverage alongside Earthquake, hitting Flying-types such as Jumpluff and Pelipper, which resists Waterfall and is immune to Earthquake. Ice Beam, however, can be used to surprise opposing Grass-types such as Leafeon and Tangela, which resist Whiscash's dual STAB attacks, for super effective damage off of their lower Special Defense. Set Details 252 Attack EVs provide Whiscash with maximum damage output. Maximum Speed investment along with a Jolly nature allows Whiscash to outspeed threats such as maximum Speed neutral-natured base 70 Speed Pokemon such as Mightyena before a Dragon Dance while outspeeding Jolly Purugly and everything below that after a Dragon Dance. If you're running Ice Beam, a Naive nature is preferred to increase the damage Ice Beam can do while being able to 2HKO Tangela and Gourgeist-XL. Life Orb increases the power of all of Whiscash's attacks at the cost of some health. Hydration is the best of Whiscash's abilities, as while it might seem situational, having status removed when it's raining greatly benefits Whiscash. Usage Tips Whiscash is best used late-game when its checks and counters are eliminated or weak enough to the point where Whiscash can clean up for itself. Set up Dragon Dance against foes that Whiscash can force out such as Rapidash and Probopass. Be mindful of Whiscash's health, as Life Orb wears it down with each attack, and being burned or poisoned will either lower its Attack or limit how long Whiscash can sweep, respectively. Be sure to get rid of or weaken, faster Pokemon or Choice Scarf users, as Whiscash is still slow even after a Dragon Dance. Avoid switching Whiscash into strong attacks due to its subpar defenses. Whiscash should come in when a teammate has fainted or from a slow Volt Switch or U-turn. Be mindful of switching Whiscash into a predicted Electric-type attack, as Pokemon such as Raichu and Zebstrika can predict it switching in and either use Grass Knot or Hidden Power Grass, respectively. Team Options Whiscash appreciates entry hazard support from Pokemon such as Roselia, Venipede, Golem, and Probopass to wear down opposing foes; netting an OHKO Floatzel after a Dragon Dance and Stealth Rock damage with Earthquake. Roselia resists Grass-type attacks and can handle Grass-types with Sludge Bomb. Fire-, Flying-, and Ice-types such as Rapidash, Dodrio, and Rotom-F deal with troublesome Grass-types that Whiscash has trouble getting past while Whiscash handles Rock-types for them in return. Wallbreakers such as Ursaring and Beheeyem can break down the opponent's team, making it easier for Whiscash to sweep. Ice Beam variants of Basculin can lure in and weaken or take out Grass-types. Rapid Spin support from Pokemon such as Torkoal, Armaldo, and Avalugg benefits Whiscash, as it is affected by all forms of entry hazards.

This is Whiscash's best option for achieving a sweep late-game, but it needs some team support to work. It uses Substitute, its good natural bulk, and its great typing to get as many Dragon Dance boosts as possible and then smash the opposing team with its STAB moves. Dragon Dance is Whiscash's most important move, as it boosts Whiscash's offensive stats to respectable levels. Earthquake is Whiscash's strongest STAB, and it will deal good damage to most Pokemon that do not resist it. Waterfall complements Earthquake pretty well, providing Whiscash with coverage against most non-Grass-types. It also has a nice flinch rate that Whiscash can take advantage of with Speed boosts from Dragon Dance. The EV spread allows Whiscash to create 101 HP Substitutes and ensures Alomomola's Waterfall never breaks its Substitute. The spread also enables Whiscash to outspeed non-Choice Scarf Jynx, Haunter, and Primeape after a Dragon Dance boost. Whiscash can also run full offensive investment with a Life Orb, a Jolly nature, and Stone Edge over Substitute. However, that set, while stronger, finds setting up much harder, and because it also needs a few boosts to be threatening, it is generally a less reliably way for Whiscash to sweep. This more offensive approach lets Whiscash outspeed Pokemon such as Serperior, Charizard, and Swoobat after a Dragon Dance boost, though, so it's not to be dismissed. Hydration is used as Whiscash's main ability; while it might be situational, it's the least useless of the three abilities Whiscash has access to and is very useful if rain is up. Anticipation would be nice if it warned about Hidden Power Grass, but Hidden Power is always taken to be a Normal-type move and the ability only activates when you send Whiscash out, making it a poor choice. Whiscash has trouble getting past Grass-type Pokemon such as Torterra, Tangela, and Ludicolo, so teammates that can beat those Pokemon are necessary. Scolipede and Roselia make great partners for Whiscash, as they boast a superb 4x resistance to Grass-type moves and can also provide Whiscash with Spikes and Toxic Spikes support, easing its sweep, and opportunities to switch in and set up against Fire-type attacks aimed at them. Garbodor is also a nice teammate, as it resists Grass-type moves and can also reliably set up Spikes and Toxic Spikes. These three Pokemon can also absorb Toxic Spikes, which is incredibly helpful for Whiscash outside of rain. Braviary and Charizard deal with Grass-type Pokemon easily, as they can switch in on a predicted Grass-type move and destroy them with Brave Bird and Fire Blast, respectively. LumRest Exeggutor makes a nice partner for Whiscash as well, as it can beat most Grass-type Pokemon easily and it doesn't fear being put to sleep thanks to Lum Berry and Harvest. Meanwhile, Whiscash can deal with the Fire-type Pokemon that threaten Exeggutor. Specially offensive Water-types are also difficult for Whiscash to deal with, so Regice and Ludicolo make good partners. Ludicolo can also provide Whiscash with rain support, making Waterfall a much stronger move and activating Hydration.

Due to Whiscash's great offensive typing and acceptable movepool, it can effectively utilize Dragon Dance in order to sweep. After a Dragon Dance, Whiscash reaches 328 Speed, allowing it to outspeed up to positive-natured base 100 Speed Pokemon such as Miltank, Houndoom, and Drapion. Waterfall is advised as the main STAB attack because of its reliability, although if you prefer the extra power, Aqua Tail can be used at the cost of lower accuracy. Earthquake is the secondary STAB move, as it is able to dent foes like Milotic and Slowbro, while also having decent coverage with Whiscash's Water-type STAB. Bounce is recommended in the final slot as it allows Whiscash to deal with Grass-types that would otherwise wall this set, although Stone Edge can be utilized if you want Whiscash to hit Flying-types such as Altaria and Scyther for super effective damage. The EV spread is standard for a physical sweeper, and it lets Whiscash just barely outspeed base 100 Speed Pokemon after a boost and with an Adamant nature. Whiscash really needs the Adamant nature, since its Attack stat is otherwise unimpressive, even when boosted. In order to give Whiscash that much more oomph with its attacks, a Life Orb is equipped. Since Whiscash really won't be tanking hits very well anyway, the recoil is no big deal. Entry hazard support is extremely useful for Whiscash, as said support will help it dent foes more heavily while also getting KOs on certain Pokemon if they have taken previous damage. Similarly, dual screens support is a good idea to use on your team as it will help Whiscash set up much more easily on a wider array of opposing Pokemon. In addition, including Pokemon that can deal with bulky Water- and Grass-types, Whiscash's number one counters, is a great idea as they will allow Whiscash to more efficiently execute its sweep. Defensive variants of Moltres and Arcanine are great Pokemon to help deal with Grass-types, while Venusaur and Sceptile can help with bulky Water-types like Milotic. Finally, including a Pokemon that can take status is useful, as status conditions will sink Whiscash's already unsteady ship. RestTalk Arcanine is a great example of a Pokemon that can perform this role sufficiently while also hitting those Grass-types hard.

Set Description With maximum Defense investment, Whiscash is physically bulky enough to avoid a 2HKO from Choice Band Metang and Hitmonchan, giving it an immediate niche in the tier. Physically defensive Whiscash vies for a team slot with Relicanth and Wailord, but there are a couple of things that make Whiscash worth using over both. While Relicanth resists Normal- and Flying-type attacks and Wailord is a better Fire-type check by virtue of being less susceptible to Grass-type attacks and has Roar, Whiscash has an easier time offensively beating back Hitmonchan, resists Rock and is immune to Electric, and more easily takes on special attackers like Haunter (assuming they lack Grass-type coverage). Earthquake and Ice Beam have very good coverage together and prevent Pokemon like Substitute Tropius from being able to take advantage of Whiscash even if it's asleep. RestTalk provides Whiscash with great longevity and allows it to absorb status for the team. Protect + Toxic is another option if you feel RestTalk leaves Whiscash too vulnerable, with Toxic allowing Whiscash to cripple most Pokemon that aren't too threatened by its coverage moves, notably other bulky Pokemon like Wailord and Chimecho. A more balanced EV spread can be used to turn Whiscash into a more of a blanket check and try to make the most of its set of resistances. With a spread of 252 HP / 140 Def / 112 SpD and a Sassy nature, Whiscash is still physically bulky enough to avoid a 2HKO from Choice Band Murkrow's Drill Peck and specially bulky enough to just barely survive a Fire Blast followed by a Hidden Power Grass from maximum Special Attack Flareon. Team Options Spikes can heavily pressure Whiscash and make it harder for it to check the physical attackers it needs to, such as Choice Band Metang and Relicanth, making Rapid Spin support from Hitmonchan highly valued to get the most out of Whiscash. In the same vein, Spikes support of your own will allow Whiscash to nab some KOs it can otherwise miss out on, such as an OHKO on Pupitar and a 2HKO on Choice Band Hitmonchan. Roselia is the best Spiker to pair with Whiscash, as it completely covers Whiscash's Grass-type weakness, can easily switch in on opposing Wailord, and can provide cleric support, and in return, Whiscash deals with a large majority of the physical attackers that give Roselia trouble. Other cleric options to consider pairing Whiscash with so that it doesn't have to rely on Sleep Talk rolls include Chimecho and Lickitung.

Set Description This set merges Whiscash's offensive and defensive potential to mold it into a deadly stallbreaker when used correctly. Whiscash's typing is perfectly suited to counteract the most common stall and defensive archetypes in the tier, with only other bulky Water-types standing in Whiscash's way of total team decimation. With the moves and EV spread given, Whiscash can create 101 HP Substitutes, giving it a totally free setup against standard physically defensive Sableye and letting it cleanly 2HKO it with Surf. Roselia, Flareon, and Mawile are all easily 2HKOed by Earthquake, and Substitute protects Whiscash from the former two's Grass-type attacks. The last slot is dedicated to how you want Whiscash to handle the opponent's bulky Water- or Grass-type. Ice Beam will absolutely shred Tangela and deals a decent chunk to offensive Bellossom, and Earthquake + Ice Beam has pretty stellar coverage in the tier. Toxic is the best all-around choice for weakening Dewgong, Wailord, and Bellossom in the long run but is easily worked around if the opponent has a cleric or RestTalk user. Hidden Power Grass deals some decent chip damage to Wailord and especially other Whiscash and Relicanth. It's not recommended to deviate from the EV spread given, as it is specifically tailored to achieve the KOs Whiscash needs. Team Options This Whiscash set thrives on Spikes support to weaken the opponent's bulky Water-type and help Whiscash nab the KOs that it wants to. Roselia is the best option, as it covers Whiscash's Grass-type weakness perfectly, although this set also fits well on the offensive teams that Glalie works best on. Pokemon that can lure in and eliminate the opponent's Water-type will also work wonders here, with an Explosion lure such as Torkoal or Metang making a particularly good choice. Finally, Pokemon that work best with the opponent's stall core broken up are needed to make the most of this set. Late-game sweepers such as Huntail and Bellossom would be among the best choices.
