Punk Rock Toxtricity's Boomburst has obscene power and coverage, OHKOing or 2HKOing most Pokemon and even 3HKOing Steelix. Overdrive is a consistent Electric-type attack that punishes Boomburst switch-ins like Stakataka and Diancie. Volt Switch lets Toxtricity bring a threatening teammate in against relatively consistent checks like Porygon2 and Registeel. Snarl catches the occasional Golurk along with OHKOing Alolan Marowak. Sludge Bomb is an alternative that can poison bulky switch-ins, 2HKOes Alolan Marowak, and OHKOes Trace Gardevoir. Toxtricity's Speed tier isn't crowded, so it can get away with a Modest nature. Running a Timid nature is advantageous against Tyrantrum, Modest Nidoqueen, and other Toxtricity, though it makes Pokemon harder to OHKO with Boomburst. Proactive teams using offensive pivots like Noivern and Crobat are best at giving Toxtricity chances to freely attack and compensating for its poor Speed. Flygon and Incineroar are U-turn users that pivot on switch-ins like Togekiss and Galarian Weezing, which healthy Toxtricity is then free to exploit. They form a VoltTurn core with Toxtricity as well, giving defensive teams a miserable time. Other Fighting-types like Heracross punish bulky Normal- and Steel-types for switching into Boomburst. Toxtricity is a very self-sufficient attacker once it's made it into the battle, so its team doesn't need to give it much specific support; just have a plan for when common threats switch in to revenge kill it.

Boomburst is the most powerful move on this set, heavily damaging Ground-types such as Hippowdon, Swampert, and Nidoqueen and wearing down switch-ins without recovery like Excadrill. Volt Switch is Toxtricity’s way of generating momentum against threats that Toxtricity cannot break through, like Chansey. Since Overdrive + Boomburst covers the entire UU metagame, Shift Gear can be used to boost Toxtricity's Speed and outrun revenge killers like Azelf. Sleep Talk is another option to absorb Spore from Amoonguss and still function as a wallbreaker. Sludge Wave can be used for immediate KOes on Fairy- and Grass-types such as Tapu Bulu, Hatterene, and Tangrowth, though they all hate taking Boomburst. Sludge Bomb is a viable alternative over Sludge Wave to poison and wear down switch-ins like Hippowdon and Swampert. Silk Scarf amplifies the power of Toxtricity's Boomburst, increasing its spammability and giving it good odds to 2HKO Normal-resistant foes like Skarmory and Cobalion. Air Baloon is an option to take advantage of Hippowdon since Toxtricity is immune to Toxic. Heavy-Duty Boots prevent Toxtricity from being worn down by entry hazards. A Modest nature is preferred to maximize Toxtricity's power against foes like Hippowdon and Cobalion, but a Timid nature can be used to outpace Adamant Gyarados and Mamoswine if needed. Toxtricity fits on offensive teams as an early-game wallbreaker that can break down common defensive cores of Pokemon like Hippowdon, Tangrowth, and Salamence and open up its teammates. Toxtricity appreciates entry hazard support from setters such as Excadrill and Hippowdon to punish and accumulate chip damage on vulnerable checks such as Nihilego. Toxtricity can compliment these entry hazard setters by threatening to 2HKO entry hazard removers like Salamence and Rotom-W. Additionally, Toxtricity appreciates Pokemon that can threaten to KO and force out specially defensive walls. Keldeo is a prime example of a wallbreaker that excels at dealing with Ground-types like Hippowdon and forcing out Chansey thanks to Secret Sword. Pokemon that take on Excadrill and Zygarde-10%, such as Tangrowth, Salamence, and Zarude, make great partners. Zarude’s U-turn, combined with Toxtricity's ability to break its checks like Skarmory and Cobalion, yields another VoltTurn core that Toxtricity benefits from. Slowking can pivot into revenge killers like Azelf, Keldeo, and Noivern and bring Toxtricity in safely with Teleport to freely wallbreak. Late-game cleaners like Azelf and Scizor enjoy Toxtricity removing threats like Mandibuzz and Salamence so they can finish off the enemy team. They also form momentum cores with it and pressure offensive checks like Keldeo and Mamoswine.

Toxtricity is a strong wallbreaker thanks to its solid Special Attack combined with Choice Specs and its access to Overdrive and Boomburst, which get boosted by its Punk Rock ability. Sludge Wave is primarily used against Fairy- and Grass-type Pokemon, as otherwise, Boomburst is its most powerful attack. Volt Switch allows Toxtricity to pivot and give its teammates safe switches in or put its foe in range of its attack the next time it switches in. Toxtricity's part-Electric typing makes it very valuable against Water- and Flying-type teams and allows it to break Corviknight, which is otherwise a threat to Poison. Its Speed and bulk are mediocre, hence it prefers switching in on passive Pokemon that can't do too much damage or being brought in on a predicted switch. Galarian Weezing covers Toxtricity's big weakness to Ground-type attacks and can remove entry hazards that hinder Toxtricity's longevity with Defog. Drapion is immune to Psychic-type attacks that threaten Toxtricity and can set up Toxic Spikes to weaken the opponent's team to support Toxtricity's wallbreaking. Drapion also has access to STAB Knock Off, which provides useful utility in removing the foe's item. Gengar is a great revenge killer that can handle faster threats such as Hydreigon and Galarian Darmanitan. Salazzle helps break Steel-type Pokemon, notably Ferrothorn, which are problematic for Poison teams to deal with. It can also annoy many teams with its Corrosion-boosted Toxic combined with Substitute and Protect, and it pivots into Toxapex. Defensive Vileplume is a great partner for checking Mold Breaker Excadrill thanks to its typing, which lets it take neutral hits from Ground, and access to Strength Sap and Sleep Powder, which allow it to consistently check it. Toxapex acts as a great pivot to strong attacks that threaten Toxtricity such as Charizard's Fire Blast and Weavile's Icicle Crash.

Thanks to its ability in Punk Rock increasing its sound-based moves incredibly and Choice Specs, Toxtricity can act as the premier special wallbreaker for Electric teams. When combined, Overdrive and Boomburst cover the majority of the metagame and can prove difficult to deal with for teams that lack key resistances to this combination. Volt Switch allows Toxtricity to act as a pivot that can be used when predicting a Pokemon that resists the two aforementioned moves to come into the field such as Ferrothorn. Maximum Speed investment is used in order to allow it to outspeed the majority of the unboosted metagame with Sticky Web support. Toxtricity has a notably difficult time dealing with Pokemon that resist both Overdrive and Boomburst, such as Ferrothorn and Excadrill, and as such, it appreciates Pokemon with Fire-type coverage such as Dracozolt. Furthermore, due do its very middling Speed, Sticky Web support from Vikavolt is greatly needed in order for it to outspeed opposing Pokemon. Finally, slow pivot support from Pokemon like Rotom-W immensely benefits Toxtricity, allowing it to be brought in safely and gain KOs, as its mediocre defenses disallow it from taking on many attacks. Both Vikavolt and Rotom-W's ability in Levitate helps Toxtricity by allowing them to deal with Ground-type attacks for it as well.

Shift Gear transforms Toxtricity into a fast late-game cleaner that outspeeds the entire metagame, including most common Choice Scarf users. Refrigerate Boomburst is a powerful special attack that OHKOes common threats like Garchomp, Zapdos, and Zygarde-10%. Thunderbolt threatens defensive foes like Corviknight and Mandibuzz with 2HKOs and, combined with Boomburst, provides the coveted BoltBeam coverage. Drain Punch threatens Blissey and Heatran, which could otherwise wall this set, at +1 and provides some modicum of recovery. Toxtricity fits well on offensive teams that appreciate its ability to easily outspeed and remove opposing threats. That being said, due to its middling base Speed, Toxtricity needs faster teammates like Barraskewda to weaken opponents and create opportunities to use Shift Gear. It also appreciates particularly powerful wallbreakers like Pixilate Tapu Koko and Tough Claws Zarude that can wear down the opposing defensive core. Offensive Pokemon like Talonflame and Zapdos benefit from Toxtricity weakening and KOing defensive Pokemon that they struggle to handle on their own. Galarian Moltres notably pairs well with Toxtricity, as it takes advantage of foes Choice locked into Psychic- and Ground-type moves to pull off sweeps of its own. Due to its frailty, Toxtricity appreciates teammates like Landorus-T and Corviknight that can safely pivot it in. Entry hazard setters like Garchomp and Mew can make foes easier for Toxtricity to KO. Toxtricity is itself very susceptible to passive damage from entry hazards and Life Orb recoil, so entry hazard removers like Mandibuzz and Excadrill are valuable partners to keep it healthy.
