Moves Scald allows Toxapex to mitigate its passivity, punishing attackers like Mega Tyranitar and Mega Mawile with Scald burns. Haze thwarts setup attempts from Necturna, Reuniclus, and Magearna and prevents Toxapex from being setup fodder. Toxic gives it a way to punish switch-ins like Rotom-Wash, Tapu Lele, Jumbao, and Tornadus-T. Knock Off can be used instead to force progress by removing items from Krilowatt, Weavile, Chansey, and Reuniclus. Another option is Toxic Spikes, which help setup sweepers like Mega Latias, Reuniclus, and Gliscor by wearing down their checks in Chansey, Mega Tyranitar, and Jumbao. Set Details The EV spread maximizes Toxapex's special bulk to let it handle Jumbao, Magearna, and Tornadus-T better, with the given Defense investment allowing it to always survive a +2 Leaf Blade from Kartana two Choice Band Knock Offs from Weavile, as well as counter Mega Lopunny. Regenerator and Black Sludge keep Toxapex healthy throughout the game, which lets it check Manaphy and Volcarona. Ground-resistant or -immune Pokemon like Celesteela, Tornadus-T, and Jumbao can switch into Ground-type attacks from Equilibra, Landorus-T, and Gliscor, which threaten Toxapex. Psychic-types like Mega Alakazam, Reuniclus, and Tapu Lele threaten Toxapex, so Pokemon like Heatran, Mega Tyranitar, and Weavile are great teammates alongside it. Tyranitar and Weavile are especially notable, as their Pursuit support is greatly appreciated by Toxapex to remove Psychic-types that threaten it. Mega Scizor is a solid teammate, as it helps patch Toxapex's negative matchup versus Kyurem-B. Regenerator cores with Tangrowth and Tornadus-T are incredibly hard to consistently break through, as they cover each other's weaknesses.

Moves Toxic Spikes is Toxapex's best method of wearing down grounded Pokemon that aren't Steel- or Poison-types or lack Rest, Aromatherapy, or Refresh. It's highly appreciated by defensive teams due to its ability to weaken offensive teams. Scald is mostly used for burns and to prevent Mega Gengar from constantly switching in to absorb Toxic Spikes. Haze is mainly used for removing boosts from physical sweepers such as Mega Lucario. Recover is necessary to keep Toxapex alive to check Ho-Oh and Marshadow. Toxic is an option over Scald to better deal with Ho-Oh and cripple switch-ins like Primal Groudon and Arceus-Ground, but giving up Scald means giving up any offensive presence whatsoever. Set Details Maximum HP and Defense EVs with a Bold nature maximize Toxapex's physical bulk, allowing it to take on most physical attackers in the tier. Rocky Helmet is the best item choice due to the indirect damage it causes to physical attackers like Marshadow, Ho-Oh, and Mega Lucario, which Toxapex is too weak to deal with. Shed Shell is another option that allows Toxapex to escape from trappers like Mega Gengar, Gothitelle, and the uncommon Dugtrio. Usage Tips Toxapex should be used as a defensive pivot that can switch into physical attackers such as defensive Ho-Oh, Marshadow, and Mega Lucario lacking Earthquake. It can also switch in to absorb Toxic Spikes if needed. Keep in mind that strong physical attacks from the likes of offensive Ho-Oh, Bulk Up Marshadow, and Dragon Dance Mega Salamence can still overwhelm Toxapex. Against offensive teams, only one layer of Toxic Spikes is usually sufficient enough to beat them, but a second layer may be used against defensive teams that want to stay in longer with their Pokemon. Toxapex can set up Toxic Spikes against mainly physical attackers that don't carry super effective coverage such as Marshadow. It can also take advantage of more passive Pokemon such as Arceus-Water, Arceus-Fairy, and specially defensive Necrozma-DM, in order to force them to get rid of Toxic Spikes with Defog or allow Toxapex to use Recover on them to regain health. If carrying Toxic, it's best to use it to cripple checks and counters that may switch in on Toxapex, such as Primal Groudon and Arceus-Ground. It's also appropriate to cripple other Pokemon right away if Toxic Spikes can't be set up. If not carrying Toxic, make appropriate double switches when Toxapex's checks and counters arrive, as Toxapex otherwise ends up being fodder to them. Team Options Ho-Oh checks Primal Groudon and Arceus-Ground sets not carrying Rock-type coverage and greatly appreciates Toxic Spikes support from Toxapex, as it helps Ho-Oh take down Primal Kyogre and Arceus-Water. It can also offer Defog support. Support Arceus-Ground can take down Primal Groudon and Zygarde and remove entry hazards with Defog. Ferrothorn greatly appreciates Toxapex's ability to check Marshadow and Ho-Oh and forms a hazard stacking core with Toxapex. However, this can stack weaknesses to Mega Gengar and offensive Ho-Oh. In general, Toxapex wants Stealth Rock support from Pokemon like Primal Groudon, Necrozma-DM, and Tyranitar to make checking Pokemon like offensive Ho-Oh and Mega Salamence easier. Tyranitar can also remove trappers like Mega Gengar and Gothitelle for Toxapex and check Mega Salamence and Ho-Oh not carrying Earthquake with its STAB Rock-type attacks. Blissey and Chansey appreciate Toxapex's ability to check most Fighting-types and help in checking strong special attackers such as Xerneas and Primal Kyogre in return. Mega Sableye can bounce back hazards to help keep Toxapex as healthy as possible and check Mega Gengar. Both Giratina formes greatly benefit Toxapex. Giratina is a sturdier check to strong physical attackers that can overwhelm Toxapex such as offensive Ho-Oh and Dragon Dance Mega Salamence and can use Dragon Tail to force Pokemon to switch into Toxic Spikes. Giratina-O is a less sturdy check to the aforementioned Pokemon, but it can check most Primal Groudon and Arceus-Ground sets and easily take advantage of Toxic Spikes with Hex. Lastly, both Giratina formes provide Defog support. Zygarde is another Pokemon that can check offensive Ho-Oh and Mega Salamence, but it can also take advantage of Toxic Spikes with a Dragon Dance set.

Moves Haze allows Toxapex to check setup sweepers such as Autotomize Celesteela and Bisharp by resetting their boosts. Scald is Toxapex's only viable attack and allows it to check physical attackers such as Mimikyu and Mega Aerodactyl by burning them. Recover allows Toxapex to stay healthy throughout the match, allowing it to consistently take on foes. Toxic Spikes cripples the foes through poison, chipping them every turn and allowing teammates such as Nidoking to wallbreak with more ease. Set Details 252 HP and 140 Special Defense EVs alongside a Calm nature allow Toxapex to take +1 Psychic from Z-Happy Hour Jirachi after Stealth Rock damage while also allowing it to take on other special attackers such as Taunt Kommo-o more easily. The remaining EVs are invested in its Defense to maximize its ability to take physical attacks, such as Gliscor's Earthquake. Icium Z allows Toxapex to use Haze against Taunt users, allowing it to check threats such as Kommo-o that would otherwise proceed to sweep the rest of the team. Z-Haze also restores Toxapex to full health. Usage Tips In matchups against threatening setup sweepers such as Mega Charizard X, Azumarill, and Mimikyu, Toxapex should be preserved so it can neuter their boosts with Haze. Z-Haze can be used in situations where Toxapex can be revenge killed after it has removed a boost with Haze, preventing it from being knocked out next turn. Additionally, it can be used to check dangerous sweepers to the team such as Taunt Kommo-o and Z-Happy Hour Jirachi. Make sure to keep Toxapex as healthy as possible throughout the match so it can continue to check setup sweepers with Haze and act as a general sponge. Toxapex should try to keep Toxic Spikes up the entire game, as they give offensive teammates an easier time breaking past the foe's team. It should reset them on Defoggers and fish for a Scald burn to punish them for trying to remove its entry hazards. Toxapex should spam Scald to fish for burns against physical threats such as Mega Lopunny and Bisharp, making it harder for them to break past Toxapex. It can also be spammed to deter physical attackers from switching in fear of getting burned. However, in specific instances such as against Mega Scizor, Toxapex should scout for Facade to make sure it will not give it a power boost. Team Options Mega Venusaur is a staple on Poison teams, as it can check bulky Water- and Ground-type Pokemon such as Swampert, Suicune, and Hippowdon, all of which give Toxapex trouble. Additionally, it can provide Leech Seed support, allowing its teammates to switch in with more ease. Alolan Muk provides an immunity to Psychic-type attacks, which provides the team with a switch-in to threats such as Latios, as well as being able to provide support with Knock Off, crippling the opposing team. Alolan Muk can also Pursuit trap threats such as Latios for Toxapex. Crobat helps cover for Toxapex with its immunity to Ground-type attacks and provides Defog support, allowing it to switch into threats such as Tornadus-T with more ease. Additionally, it can Taunt entry hazard setters to prevent them from setting up their hazards and prevent Defoggers from removing Toxapex's hazards. Crobat can also be valuable in the Poison mirror matchup, as it can take down Mega Venusaur, which gives Toxapex trouble. Nidoking and Nihilego are Poison teams' premier Stealth Rock setters. Nidoking is the wallbreaker that provides an Electric-type immunity and has good coverage options such as Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, and Flamethrower, allowing it to take on multiple Pokemon such as Mantine and Ferrothorn. Nidoking is also a good answer to burned Facade Mega Scizor due to the drop to Bullet Punch's power allowing Nidoking to take it on safely with Flamethrower. Choice Scarf Nihilego on the other hand acts as a revenge killer for the team, being able to outspeed threats such as Choice Scarf Landorus-T and Mega Charizard X after a Dragon Dance, allowing it to OHKO them with Hidden Power Ice and Power Gem, respectively. Salazzle can easily wear down slower Pokemon with Corrosion, which allows it to badly poison any Pokemon with Toxic and stall out their health with Substitute and Protect. It also makes facing Steel, Water, and Poison teams much easier by allowing Salazzle to cripple Pokemon in those matchups that are traditionally difficult to break past such as Celesteela, Toxapex, and Mega Venusaur.

Moves Scald is Toxapex's only decent attacking move and is extremely spammable as well, having a 30% chance to burn the opposition; it is a great way to get around being walled by Taunt users, and it is also good for crippling opposing Pokemon and getting chip damage against Pokemon that are immune to Toxic. Recover gives Toxapex a reliable form of recovery and gives Toxapex the freedom to scout for moves from Pokemon that can't OHKO it. Toxapex can also use Recover to stall out Pokemon that have been burned or poisoned. Toxic Spikes is a great entry hazard that Toxapex can utilize well, as it is so bulky that it can reliably get up both layers without risking much. Toxic Spikes cause the foes to take chip damage throughout the majority of the match, paving the way for sweepers to have an easier time cleaning late-game. They also force the opposition to play around them to get a turn to Rapid Spin or Defog, giving your team momentum. Haze stops Toxapex from being setup fodder as well as halting sweepers from cleaning the team late-game; as it has nonexistent offensive presence, Pokemon such as Volcarona would have an easy time setting up on it otherwise. Baneful Bunker can be used over Haze, as it can scout out Choice item users. This lets you play better versus more offensive teams rather than having the safety versus setup that comes with Haze. Haze helps to stop Poison-type teams from being overwhelmed by setup sweepers, but Baneful Bunker is invaluable in the Normal matchup in particular for beating Diggersby. Set Details Regenerator enhances Toxapex's ability to act as a pivot for the team. Being able to come in and out while taking hits and restoring HP each time is very valuable for the team. Black Sludge is used to give Toxapex passive recovery, giving Toxapex the chance to take more hits without relying on Recover as much. It is also the difference between taking two Earthquakes from Mega Charizard X and risking being KOed after Stealth Rock. Maximum HP and Defense investment is used so that Toxapex can take hits from Life Orb Excadrill nearly every time, as well as taking on Pokemon such as Mega Pinsir, Mega Lopunny, Choice Band Victini, and a set-up Bisharp. Usage Tips Switching in and out with Toxapex is better than using Recover if you have better answers to foes on your team. Utilizing Regenerator well with Toxapex allows you to take advantage of having a healthy wall during the late turns of the game. Going out to Pokemon such as Alolan Muk on special attacks and Mega Venusaur on physical attacks rather than trying to use Recover to stay healthy not only gives Toxapex more HP but also lets you get in a Pokemon that better deals with the opposition. Make sure that you keep Toxapex healthy if you see a threat that can set up easily on your team and sweep so that you can safely Haze it. Toxapex can take on Volcarona but needs a considerable amount of health to beat it at +1 if Volcarona carries Hidden Power Ground. Take advantage of how spammable Scald is by trying to cripple physical attackers such as Garchomp and Mega Gallade or Pokemon immune to poison. Try to get up two layers of Toxic Spikes when facing balance teams, as it will be more damaging over time. Getting up at least one layer of Toxic Spikes is important, as any chip damage is crucial. Use Baneful Bunker to scout for Choice item users to give yourself a better opportunity at a safer switch. Against Normal teams, this is essential for poisoning and stalling Choice Band Diggersby. Team Options Alolan Muk is a great teammate for Toxapex, as the Assault Vest set with Pursuit and Poison Touch can trap and KO Psychic-types that threaten Toxapex. Its immunity to Psychic also means it can isolate and KO Psychic-type Pokemon on other teams such as Jirachi on Steel, Latios and Latias on Dragon, and Victini on Fire. Knock Off can also make it easier for Toxapex to check Pokemon by removing Choice items and Leftovers. Mega Venusaur works well with Toxapex, naturally resisting one of Toxapex's weaknesses in Electric-type attacks, giving Toxapex less pressure. It is also neutral to Ground-type attacks. Thus, Mega Venusaur can help Toxapex deal with Pokemon such as Excadrill and Tapu Koko. Crobat works well with Toxapex, as it is immune to Ground and can support Toxapex with dealing with other bulky Pokemon. It also has good synergy with Toxapex as a pivot, with Crobat being a fast U-turn pivot and Toxapex being a slow Regenerator pivot, and it can act as a stallbreaker or prevent Defog with Taunt and get rid of entry hazards with Defog. Nihilego is arguably the best Choice Scarf sweeper to pair with Toxapex, as it can take advantage of burn and poison chip to clean late-game. It also gets a nice boost with Beast Boost after each KO, meaning it can first take out Pokemon with lower HP and then take on bulkier Pokemon after the boost. It can also be used as a Stealth Rock hazard setter. Nidoking provides an Electric-type immunity that Toxapex can take advantage of. The ability to switch in Nidoking on Electric-types and deal with them with Earth Power or any of its amazing coverage moves is very good for Toxapex. Nidoking's great coverage also supports Toxapex with Ice Beam for Ground-type Pokemon as well as Thunderbolt to help deal with the Flying-type Pokemon that are unaffected by Toxic Spikes. Gengar's heavy-hitting attacks and great Speed tier make it a great option with any of Life Orb, Choice Specs, and Choice Scarf. It can break through teams or sweep teams late-game after chip damage from Toxic Spikes and Scald. Scolipede can set up and sweep late-game also if Toxapex has successfully crippled the opposition's team.

Moves Scald has a chance to burn the opposing Pokemon, which is particularly useful for crippling physical attackers like Tapu Bulu and Dragonite. Recover lets Toxapex combat the Pokemon it pivots into much better and allows it to take on Grass-type Pokemon like Mega Venusaur in a one-on-one scenario. Toxic Spikes offers support to the team in the form of reliably spreading poison on grounded Pokemon that aren't Poison- or Steel-type. Toxapex finds it incredibly easy to set up both layers of Toxic Spikes with its amazing bulk, making the move a great choice. Haze prevents Toxapex from becoming complete setup fodder for Pokemon that aren't threatened by Scald, such as bulky Volcarona sets. Baneful Bunker can be used to scout for what move Choice item-using foes such as Meloetta and Diggersby choose to go for. However, it should only replace Haze if another teammate is a reliable counter to setup sweepers. Sludge Bomb can be used in order to threaten Tapu Bulu and prevent it from setting up Substitute for free. Set Details Black Sludge is an excellent item for Toxapex, providing a bit of recovery every turn and helping Toxapex perform its job as a pivot even better. Regenerator is its best option as its ability, recovering its HP by 33% whenever it switches out. Maximum HP and Defense EVs along with a Bold nature maximize Toxapex's physical bulk and allow it to take on threats like Mega Pinsir much more easily. Moreover, they give Toxapex a chance to survive a Wood Hammer from Tapu Bulu and knock it out with Sludge Bomb. Usage Tips Take advantage of Regenerator whenever possible. Double switch out to grab momentum on an expected switch instead of wasting the turn to Recover after coming in on an attack, as there are very few moves that Toxapex can't heal off merely through Regenerator and needs to use Recover for. Furthermore, after switching in on a hit that can be easily healed through Regenerator, Toxapex can fire off a Scald in order to grab a burn on whatever may switch in, in an attempt to wear it down. Similarly, setting up Toxic Spikes is also an option after Toxapex switches in to take a hit, but make sure you don't set them up pointlessly. If there aren't enough Pokemon that are actually threatened by Toxic Spikes, or if there's a Pokemon that can absorb the Toxic Spikes, it's better to just fire off a Scald or attempt to double switch in order to obtain momentum. Try to set at least one layer of Toxic Spikes as soon as possible if there are no Poison-types present to absorb it, as it can seriously cripple the opposing team. Keep in mind, however, that once Toxic Spikes have been set, you will not be able to burn Pokemon affected by it. It is sometimes wise to preemptively use Haze on a Pokemon that is likely to set up in order to avoid taking unnecessary damage while attempting to Haze it otherwise. Use Baneful Bunker to scout for what move a Choice item-using foe may go for. For example, don't switch in your Electric-immune Pokemon right away when you see a Xurkitree; there's a chance it might go for Energy Ball. Using Baneful Bunker will prevent such situations and grab momentum for your team. Try hard switching Toxapex in to use Haze whenever there's a Pokemon on the field that may set up, such as Volcarona or Porygon-Z, before it gets out of hand. With Porygon-Z in particular, Toxapex can use Haze to remove its one-time boosts from Z-Conversion, rendering it relatively useless for the rest of the game. Team Options Toxapex's amazing natural bulk makes it a great pivot that is extremely easy to fit on both balance and stall team archetypes. Mantine proves itself to be an excellent partner for Toxapex, providing an immunity to Ground-type moves and the ability to switch in on special attacks that may threaten Toxapex with ease. Mantine also often runs Haze, making it easier for Toxapex to run Baneful Bunker over it. Swampert appreciates Toxapex's ability to switch in on Grass-type moves and can easily take Electric-type moves that threaten Toxapex. Defensive Azumarill sets that use Sap Sipper greatly support Toxapex by providing an immunity to Grass-type moves. Although this doesn't directly help Toxapex, as Toxapex does not fear most Grass-type moves, it lifts pressure from it because Azumarill becomes the primary switch-in to Grass-type moves instead of Toxapex. Furthermore, offensive Azumarill sets, primarily Choice Band, appreciate Toxic Spikes support, as it helps wear down the opposing team. Other wallbreakers and setup sweepers, such as Manaphy, Greninja, Keldeo, Gyarados, and Mega Sharpedo, highly appreciate Toxic Spikes as well, which makes it easier for them to clean up late-game. Moreover, they appreciate Toxapex's ability to take priority moves for them, as none of them with the possible exception of Manaphy like to stay in on strong priority moves. Slowbro and its Mega Evolution form an amazing defensive core with Toxapex, with the latter taking Grass- and Bug-type moves easily. In return, Slowbro and Mega Slowbro can take physical Ground-type moves aimed at Toxapex from the likes of Excadrill. Alomomola forms a great pivoting core with Toxapex too. It appreciates the fact that Toxapex can switch in on Grass-type moves and provides Wish support so Toxapex can go for another move instead of Recover after switching in to take a hit. Quagsire is another physically defensive wall that hates Grass-type moves. It stands out due to its ability Unaware, allowing Toxapex to run another move, such as Toxic, instead of Haze, as Quagsire can take care of most setup sweepers. Lanturn is another option to take Electric-type moves that Toxapex fears and provides a slow Volt Switch to help bring Toxapex in. It does, however, stack a weakness to Ground-type moves.

Moves Scald is Toxapex's only attack and will usually be used with the hope of a burn in mind, particularly against Steel-type Pokemon and Magic Bounce users that aren’t affected by Toxic. Recover is Toxapex's primary recovery option, allowing it to remain healthy even after losing the Regenerator ability after it Mega Evolves. Haze allows Toxapex to neutralize boosts and effectively wall Pokemon like Swords Dance Primal Groudon without Smack Down, Calm Mind Arceus-Ground, Golisopod, and Necrozma-DM. Toxic is utilized to cripple and continuously wear down Pokemon Toxapex wishes to check as well as Pokemon that wish to switch in on it and force it out. Toxic Spikes can also be utilized to help alleviate Toxapex's passivity and offer additional support to its teammates by pressuring and wearing down grounded Pokemon. Regenerator grants Toxapex vastly improved longevity before it Mega Evolves. Latiasite bolster's Toxapex's formidable defenses, significantly increases Scald's power, and eliminates a prior weakness to Ground-type attacks by granting it an immunity with Levitate. Usage Tips ======== It is often essential to refrain from Mega Evolving Toxapex too early to preserve its Regenerator ability as long as possible, allowing it to switch in more freely. However, if Toxapex is the only answer to Pokemon like Primal Groudon, Mamoswine, and Arceus-Ground, do not hesitate to Mega Evolve early-game to allow it to freely switch in on Ground-type attacks without fear. When using this Pokemon, always be wary of Smack Down Primal Groudon. This Pokemon leverages this coverage option specifically for Pokemon like Latiasite Toxapex, as it negates its Levitate ability and allows Primal Groudon to severely cripple or knock it out the following turn. Besides knowing when to Mega Evolve, Toxapex is very easy to use. Simply switch it into a Pokemon it walls and take advantage of the opportunity to spread burns with Scald or poison foes with Toxic or Toxic Spikes. However, Toxapex is very passive, as Scald is its only means of attacking. This STAB attack can harass opposing Pokemon with the potential burn chance, but it will rarely promise immediate damage, so one must understand when Toxapex can properly wall an opposing Pokemon and when it must switch out to avoid being overwhelmed by foes such as Magearna and Darkrai. It is important to keep Toxapex healthy particularly after it Mega Evolves, as it will rarely be outspeeding anything, and without the additional health gain from pivoting with Regenerator, it will be very difficult to bring it back in if it is severely weakened. Haze should be used to immediately halt setup and is usually utilized alongside Recover and Toxic to keep Toxapex healthy and wear down setup Pokemon. Team Options Because Toxapex is such a phenomenal switch-in to Altarianite Extreme Speed users such as Entei and Genesect, Pokemon that are revenge killed by these Pokemon such as Terrakion and Darkrai appreciate Toxapex's support. Terrakion also appreciates Toxapex's ability to wall one of its few counters in Arceus-Fairy. Magearna is a partner that benefits from Toxapex's ability to wall Entei, Primal Groudon, Arceus-Ground, and Mamoswine and generally sponge Fire- and Ground-type attacks. In return, Magearna is capable of checking a wide range of Pokemon that threaten and annoy Toxapex such as Tapu Lele, Darkrai, Mandibuzz, and, if running Latiasite, Ultra Necrozma. Set Details Maximum HP and Special Defense investment with a Careful nature allows Toxapex to wall Lunala and Mew, check Diancite Tapu Lele, and easily switch in on support Arceus formes outside of Arceus-Ground to begin setting Toxic Spikes. 0 Speed IVs with a Sassy nature is an alternative option that helps maximize Payback’s power by allowing Toxapex to move second more often, notably against Cameruptite Magearna under Trick Room, also preventing it from setting up by using Haze. Even when utilizing Toxic Spikes, Regenerator is the preferred ability over Merciless, as pivoting with Regenerator is an essential component to keeping Toxapex healthy if Mega Evolving isn't immediately necessary. Gyaradosite grants Toxapex the phenomenal Poison / Dark typing, which gives it an immunity to Psychic and a resistance to Lunala's Ghost-type STAB attack. Other benefits include a sizable increase in bulk and the acquisition of the Mold Breaker ability. This ability flips Toxapex from a Pokemon that was previously constantly harassed by bulky Sablenite users like Blissey, Mandibuzz, and Mew to a menace for these exact Pokemon with its Mold Breaker Toxic and Toxic Spikes. Usage Tips Gyaradosite Toxapex is a Pokemon that thrives off of passivity in teams. It should switch into Pokemon such as Lunala, Blissey, Mandibuzz, Sablenite or Manectite Mew, and support Arceus-Water, -Fairy, and -Rock to sponge special hits and begin stacking Toxic Spikes. This Pokemon possesses a highly desirable role as a special wall that can heavily punish teams that allow it to come in and spread such a crippling entry hazard freely. If there is a Magic Bounce user or a Psychic- or Ghost-type present, do not hesitate to Mega Evolve Toxapex to allow it to put up hazards without fear and wall threats that its regular Water / Poison typing can't handle. Powerful wallbreakers like Terrakion, Zygarde, Kartana, and Substitute Darkrai can exploit Toxapex's poor offensive presence by setting up and blowing past it. Therefore, it is important to avoid staying in and passively chipping away at these Pokemon while they grow increasingly more dangerous and to switch into an appropriate countermeasure instead. Team Options The primary beneficiary of Toxapex's Toxic Spikes is Zygarde. This Pokemon punishes Poison- and Steel-type Pokemon attempting to evade being poisoned by Toxic Spikes with its powerful STAB Thousand Arrows, and in turn, Toxic Spikes apply immense pressure to many of Zygarde's common checks such as Sablenite Buzzwole, Arceus-Ground, Arceus-Fairy, and Manectite Mew. Sablenite Buzzwole is a fantastic defensive partner that can help prevent Toxapex's passivity from being a liability by checking some of the most powerful wallbreakers in Darkrai, Terrakion, Lucarionite Zygarde, Swords Dance Primal Groudon, and Kartana while benefiting from Toxapex's Psychic immunity and general ability to sponge hits from Lunala, Tapu Lele, and Arceus-Fairy. Mew is a Pokemon that appreciates Toxapex's ability to take on Lunala, Giratina-O, Blissey, and Mandibuzz. In return, Manectite Mew is capable of tackling Zygarde and Swords Dance Primal Groudon.

Moves Recover provides Toxapex with longevity and allows it to stall out other Pokemon until they are burned via Scald or badly poisoned via Toxic. Scald is used for its burn utility and discourages threats such as Garchomp, Mega Metagross, and Celesteela from switching in at the risk of a burn. Haze prevents Pokemon from setting up while trying to take advantage of how passive Toxapex is. It can also freely switch in and use Haze against Mimikyu, Cloyster, and Flame Charge Mega Charizard Y. Toxic allows Toxapex to pressure anything that can't 2HKO it, as Toxapex can simply use Recover after each hit. Tapu Bulu is a fantastic partner, providing Grassy Terrain to give Toxapex some more passive recovery while also reducing the damage of Earthquake. Toxapex comfortably covers all of Tapu Bulu's weaknesses, while Tapu Bulu does the same for Toxapex.
