Incineroar and Amoonguss are a great duo that support Ting-Lu well. Incineroar slows down Rillaboom thanks to Intimidate and threatens super effective damage with Flare Blitz. Amoonguss can redirect super effective moves like Surging Strikes from Urshifu-R and provide Pollen Puff healing. Ting-Lu, in return, checks Pokemon like Chi-Yu and Flutter Mane, which can be troublesome for Amoonguss.

Heavy Slam allows Ting-Lu to OHKO Flutter Mane, while Ruination and Body Press provide consistent damage. Ting-Lu thrives on bulky teams, where it is able to both protect its partners and chip foes down for them to take KOs, mainly seeing usage on teams with Calyrex-S and Zamazenta-C. Calyrex-S and Chien-Pao can threaten Amoonguss with Psychic- and Ice-type attacks to stop it from threatening Ting-Lu, and Zamazenta-C has a great matchup into the aforementioned Chien-Pao and Rillaboom, which would otherwise threaten a 2HKO. In return, Ting-Lu can chip down foes to help Calyrex-S take KOs, allowing it to gain Grim Neigh boosts. It also helps other partners take special attacks, such as Raging Bolt and Amoonguss, further bolstering their bulk. This allows Amoonguss to help Ting-Lu chip down foes with the combination of Amoonguss's Spore and Ting-Lu's Sand Tomb, while Raging Bolt threatens both Kyogre and Urshifu-R. Ting-Lu can also be run with Calyrex-I, helping it take special attacks such as Electro Drift and Astral Barrage, which would otherwise threaten it heavily. It also helps Calyrex-I take KOs by dealing chip damage, allowing Calyrex-I to get Chilling Neigh boosts quickly and start to snowball out of control. Sand Tomb also stops foes from switching and removing Calyrex-I's Leech Seed.

Rocky Helmet allows Ting-Lu to punish contact moves such as U-turn from Roaring Moon and Meowscarada, Close Combat from Iron Valiant, and Draining Kiss from Hatterene. Swords Dance Hisuian Samurott is a fantastic partner, forming an entry hazard-stacking core with Ting-Lu thanks to Ceaseless Edge. Furthermore, its access to priority in Sucker Punch and coverage in Sacred Sword allows Hisuian Samurott to easily deal with Dragon, Ground, Normal, and Steel teams. In return, Ting-Lu handles Raging Bolt for Hisuian Samurott. Meowscarada and Greninja are an incredible duo in dealing with a plethora of threats for Ting-Lu; Choice Scarf Meowscarada takes out Flutter Mane, Azumarill, and Enamorus, whereas Choice Specs Greninja removes Gliscor, Galarian Weezing, Iron Valiant, and the Ogerpon formes. Nasty Plot Darkrai becomes an amazing wallbreaker with the help of Ting-Lu's Stealth Rock, as it can OHKO Assault Vest Tornadus-T, Ogerpon-W, and, if using Thunder, specially defensive Corviknight after a boost. Mandibuzz punishes setup sweepers like the Ogerpon formes, Belly Drum Azumarill, and Scizor with Foul Play while also putting Iron Hands on a timer with Toxic. Mandibuzz can also pivot Ting-Lu in on Gholdengo via U-turn. Sableye, thanks to its part-Ghost typing, stops Rapid Spin users that are trying to remove Ting-Lu's Stealth Rock while also checking Fighting-type threats like Sneasler and Great Tusk via Will-O-Wisp. Additionally, Sableye removes key items like Heavy-Duty Boots from Moltres and Articuno, making them extremely prone to Stealth Rock. Bisharp eases the Fairy matchup for Ting-Lu by getting rid of Flutter Mane and Hatterene while also dissuading Defog attempts thanks to Defiant.

Despite possessing formidable defensive capabilities, Ting-Lu cannot heal itself except with Leftovers; pairing it with physically defensive Pokemon, such as Sableye and Mandibuzz, to ease its defensive burden is thus strongly recommended. Sableye's Ghost typing brings an invaluable Fighting-type immunity to the team along with blocking Rapid Spin from Forretress and Great Tusk. Rest is a fantastic alternative, as it is Ting-Lu's only form of recovery and can be a solid option alongside Sleep Talk should the team have entry hazards elsewhere. Tera Poison gives Ting-Lu a resistance to Fairy-, Bug-, and Fighting-type moves and an immunity to poison, while Tera Water helps ease the sun and rain matchups that it may otherwise struggle with. Ting-Lu is solely fitting in the Special Defense slots on teams, as most of the bigger Special Defense donations from the likes of Arceus formes and Zacian-C allow Ting-Lu to leverage its ability and typing to the absolute fullest. Other entry hazard setters such as Clefable, Landorus-T, and Skarmory allow Ting-Lu to opt for RestTalk over Spikes and Whirlwind; however, they do form a fantastic entry hazard stacking core should Ting-Lu opt to run Spikes. Pokemon that can apply heavy offensive pressure such as Hisuian Electrode and Gholdengo appreciate the chip damage from Spikes that Ting-Lu can reliably set. Spinblockers such as the aforementioned Gholdengo and Sinistcha are fantastic partners, as they can ensure the Spikes Ting-Lu sets up are not removed. Lastly, Knock Off users such as Clefable and Tornadus-T can rid foes of their Heavy-Duty Boots to help stack the chip damage that Spikes can provide.

Whirlwind is needed to ensure Ting-Lu isn't setup fodder against threats that don't mind taking Ruination such as bulky Volcarona and Swords Dance Gliscor while also helping wear down opposing teams with Ting-Lu's hazards. Finally, Leftovers provides Ting-Lu with passive recovery, healing off weak attacks such as Tornadus-T's U-turn and Zapdos's Hurricane while also allowing it to survive attacks it otherwise wouldn't, such as avoiding the 2HKO from Choice Specs Tapu Koko's Dazzling Gleam. A major downside of Ting-Lu is its complete lack of recovery options, making Alomomola a fantastic partner that can also pivot into Water-types such as Urshifu-R and Barraskewda while healing Ting-Lu up with Wish. In return, Ting-Lu makes up for Alomomola's passivity against Gholdengo and Raging Bolt with its defensive profile combined with Whirlwind, wearing them down rapidly. Alomomola also handles Great Tusk for Ting-Lu, which would otherwise threaten Ting-Lu while removing its hazards easily. Another excellent defensive partner is Mega Venusaur, which is able to come in against the Water-, Fighting-, and Grass-types that threaten out Ting-Lu such as Kartana and Iron Valiant while appreciating Ting-Lu's hazard support to wear down opposing teams faster with its wide coverage. On offensive teams where they may not mind Ting-Lu's lack of longevity, Zamazenta, Iron Valiant, and Raging Bolt all appreciate the chip damage Ting-Lu provides with hazards wearing down defensive switch-ins such as Landorus-T, Mega Venusaur, and Kingambit. Gholdengo in particular is also able to block Defog attempts from Tornadus-T and Corviknight and Rapid Spin from Great Tusk especially if it is holding Air Balloon. Partners like Weavile and Ogerpon-W are also notable, since they can use Knock Off to remove Heavy-Duty Boots from targets like Alomomola and Toxapex, making them much easier to wear down in the long run.

Massive bulk, a great movepool, and an absolute godsend of a typing cement Ting-Lu as a core part of the metagame, checking key threats like Calyrex-S, Miraidon, and Necrozma-DM. Spikes are an essential part of Ting-Lu's kit, chipping key defensive walls like Arceus-Ground, Arceus-Water, and opposing Ting-Lu into KO range of the powerful wallbreakers that it is often paired with, in addition to limiting common revenge killers like Choice Scarf Calyrex-S and Koraidon; futhermore, the dearth of relevant entry hazard removal means that each layer of Spikes is usually permanent. Earthquake does large amounts of damage to Miraidon and Eternatus and is a decently strong hit on most neutral targets. Ruination is an important tool for limiting Ting-Lu's switch-ins and forcing Arceus formes to use Recover, as well as being the best move to weaken opposing Ting-Lu. Payback can be run over either Earthquake or Ruination to OHKO Calyrex-S for teams that are weaker to it, though this will result in Ting-Lu either struggling against Miraidon or failing to punish switch-ins, depending on which move is replaced. Both Tera types additionally let Ting-Lu resist Calyrex-S's Grass Knot. Ting-Lu is so incredible that it's hard to find reasons not to use it. It can slot into any playstyle besides hyper offense and likely improve the team. That being said, Ting-Lu's glaring weakness to Koraidon necessitates partners that can handle it, such as Ho-Oh and defensive Arceus formes. Kyogre is another troublesome wallbreaker, so teammates that can pivot into it like Eternatus, Koraidon, and Miraidon are greatly appreciated, with Eternatus additionally absorbing Toxic Spikes for Ting-Lu. Reliance on Leftovers for healing means that Ting-Lu can be overwhelmed by Miraidon and Calyrex-S, so backup checks to them like Arceus-Ground for the former and Ho-Oh or Arceus for the latter are very important. Almost every offensive threat benefits from Ting-Lu's Spikes digging into its checks, as well as the backbone it provides against Calyrex-S and Miraidon. Koraidon and Miraidon are especially notable partners, as they can maintain momentum with U-turn to accrue additional entry hazard damage on defensive Arceus formes and Ting-Lu, respectively, with Koraidon also taking advantage of opposing Ting-Lu attempting to trade hazards with Ting-Lu. Ting-Lu leverages its typing, massive defensive stats, and ability to counter Final Gambit Lunala to find use as a reasonable utility Pokemon. Fur Coat allows Ting-Lu to counter threats like Mega Garchomp, Ho-Oh, and Arceus-Ghost. Knock Off forces progress, removing items from foes such as Mega Audino. Salt Cure's residual damage limits Take Heart Arceus formes' ability to set up in front of Ting-Lu and reduces its passivity, while Parting Shot can still deal with Pokemon such as Arceus-Ghost when in combination with a revenge killer like Mega Alakazam. Topsy-Turvy neutralizes setup threats like Arceus-Ghost and Mega Garchomp. Covert Cloak protects Ting-Lu from Mortal Spin and Salt Cure. Ting-Lu best fits on teams looking for a good blanket physical wall and Simple Ghost-type answer. Ting-Lu struggles against Mega Lucario and Ash-Greninja, so backup checks like Fur Coat Celesteela are mandatory. Imposter-proof Ting-Lu with Knock Off absorbers like Arceus formes; Magic Bounce can also be useful against Parting Shot variants.

RegenVest Ting-Lu leverages its massive mixed bulk, unique typing, and low Speed tier to act as a pivot into several of the tier's special attackers as well as defensive Pokemon to fire off its utility moves. U-turn and Knock Off are staple moves for RegenVest users. Nuzzle is primarily for Eternatus, which is otherwise difficult to punish, but if Ting-Lu can pivot into a revenge killer such as Mega Alakazam or Mega Sceptile, then Salt Cure can be opted for to annoy Take Heart Arceus formes. Stone Axe provides entry hazard support, while Mortal Spin poisons Imposter users and can act as a decent option for hazard removal, especially if paired with Salt Cure. Ting-Lu requires its Assault Vest to switch into any reasonably strong special attack it doesn't resist, so it needs secondary Knock Off absorbers like Take Heart Arceus formes and Imposter users. It is also vulnerable to threats like Flutter Mane, Palkia-O, and Ultra Necrozma with Magical Torque or Mountain Gale, so it appreciates a specially defensive teammate like Ice Scales Arceus-Fairy, and in return Ting-Lu scouts powerful attacks like Psycho Boost and Moongeist Beam. Depending on its moves, Ting-Lu can be Imposter-proofed by Take Heart Arceus formes or Electric-types like Arceus-Electric and Iron Hands.

Ting-Lu finds itself a home on Dark teams as a sturdy special wall and entry hazard setter, capable of staving off foes like Mega Charizard Y, Nasty Plot Tornadus-T, Tapu Koko, and Choice Scarf Tapu Lele and threatening them out. Heavy Slam alongside 32 Attack EVs allows Ting-Lu to OHKO Choice Scarf Tapu Lele as well as dissuade other Fairy-types such as Tapu Bulu from switching in for free. Ruination allows Ting-Lu to deal consistent damage to opposing walls such as Corviknight and Porygon2 and force them to use up their recovery moves' PP, softening them up in the long run for a teammate like Meowscarada or Hydreigon. Heavy Slam: Heavy Slam deals far more damage to Flutter Mane and Mimikyu than any other attack, with even Bold Flutter Mane having a good shot at being OHKOed after Stealth Rock damage. Fissure: Fissure is Ting-Lu's best shot at KOing bulky foes like Stamina Archaludon and Ursaluna-B. Payback versus Throat Chop: Payback will usually deal more damage thanks to how slow Ting-Lu is, but Throat Chop will punish Pokemon that switch in more. EV Spread: The given EV spread maximizes Ting-Lu's Attack and special bulk. Tera Types Tera Dependency - Medium: While Ting-Lu doesn't need Terastallization to function, it makes it far more effective at beating a wide variety of Pokemon one-on-one. Fairy: Tera Fairy not only helps Ting-Lu against powerful Dragon- and Fighting-type attacks, but it also gives Ting-Lu a good Tera Blast to hit Dragonite and Roaring Moon with. Poison: Tera Poison gives Ting-Lu a vital Fairy resistance against Flutter Mane and Mimikyu, and it lets it absorb the dreaded Toxic and Toxic Spikes. It still makes a reasonable Tera Blast option for hitting Primarina and Serperior hard as well. Water: Tera Water is a fantastic defensive typing, letting Ting-Lu avoid a 2HKO from Tera Fire Choice Specs Chi-Yu's Overheat. Steel: Tera Steel gives Ting-Lu a powerful STAB Heavy Slam, giving it a great matchup against Flutter Mane and Iron Bundle. It does become an issue against common Fire-types like Ogerpon-H and Gouging Fire though.

Ting-Lu's absurd bulk and excellent support movepool make it the premier Stealth Rock setter in the metagame! Ruination: Ruination gives Ting-Lu the most consistent option for damage output, without resorting to offensive investment. Taunt: While Ting-Lu's Speed is awful compared to most Taunt users, using Taunt against foes like Urshifu formes on the switch is still useful, plus Ting-Lu can use some specialized Speed EVs to outspeed certain paralyzed threats. Note that while using Taunt against Toxapex can be useful, it is highly likely to run Mental Herb, which risks getting Ting-Lu poisoned. Protect: Protect with Leftovers is a strong choice when running Ting-Lu with high sustain teammates such as Toxapex, and can keep Ting-Lu's health up when its in risky situations like trapped by Dragonite's Fire Spin. Heavy Slam: Heavy Slam deals serious damage to Fairy-types, with Flutter Mane in particular needing a huge amount of defensive investment to avoid being OHKOed by it. Other Options Fissure: Fissure lets Ting-Lu potentially punish passive Pokemon without Substitute, such as Toxapex. Spikes: Getting Stealth Rock and Spikes together makes Whirlwind a very effective damage dealing tool, in addition to supporting other offensive Pokemon. However, it can be difficult to set up without compromising Ting-Lu's damage output. Tera Types Tera Dependency - Medium: Even with Ting-Lu's fantastic bulk, Terastallization greatly increases the amount of Pokemon it can beat one-on-one, such as Flutter Mane and Iron Bundle. Poison: Tera Poison gives Ting-Lu an important resistance to Fairy and Fighting, and it lets it absorb Toxic Spikes. Fairy: In addition to a useful Fighting resistance, Tera Fairy helps Ting-Lu against powerful Dragon-types like Choice Band Dragonite and Choice Band Gouging Fire. Water: With Tera Water, Ting-Lu has a significantly better matchup against Urshifu-R. The Chien-Pao and Chi-Yu matchups can also benefit, but be mindful of potential Tera Blast coverage. Steel: Tera Steel retaining a Fighting weakness is unfortunate, but in exchange, Heavy Slam will OHKO even most bulky Flutter Mane, and it gives Ting-Lu a good matchup against Iron Bundle. Items Sitrus Berry versus Leftovers: Ting-Lu's lack of reliable recovery usually makes Sitrus Berry the most reliable method of surviving an extra attack. Leftovers is a good alternative if Sitrus Berry is needed somewhere else, and even preferable if running Protect. Mental Herb: Mental Herb can be used to nullify one use of Taunt or Encore, which Ting-Lu is fairly vulnerable to, at the cost of reducing its lifespan with a lack of any recovery. EV Spread Information Physical Defense versus Special Defense: Specializing in one defensive stat depends on which threats Ting-Lu needs to handle, with physically defensive variants preforming better against threats like Dragonite and Roaring Moon, and when Terastallized, Chien-Pao, Ogerpon-H, and Urshifu-R. For specially defensive variants, major targets include Gholdengo and Latios, and when Terastallized, Flutter Mane, Iron Bundle, and Chi-Yu. HP Stat Adjustments with Sitrus Berry: When using a Sitrus Berry, running an even HP number is the best option, so Ting-Lu will eat its berry right after being hit by Ruination. 252 HP / 156 Def / 100 SpD with Impish: When Terastallized to a neutral typing and holding a Sitrus Berry, Ting-Lu survives up to four Icicle Crashes from Jolly Focus Sash Chien-Pao. It also avoids a 2HKO from Timid Flutter Mane's Moonblast even without Terastallizing thanks to Sitrus Berry. 140 HP / 116 Def / 252 SpD with Careful: This Specially Defensive spread withstands even Modest Choice Specs Chi-Yu's Overheat! Speed Benchmarks With Taunt Investing in Speed may seem absurd, but with paralysis support, Ting-Lu can realistically outspeed some major threats! 60 Speed EVs: This outspeeds up to paralyzed Jolly Dragonite, which can save Ting-Lu from Encore. 76 Speed EVs: This outspeeds up to paralyzed Adamant Urshifu-R, and many variants of Ursaluna-B. 92 Speed EVs: This outspeeds up to paralyzed Modest Chi-Yu.
