Moves Stealth Rock is mandatory on just about every competitive team, punishing everything in the tier that switches in. Taunt is really good for preventing opposing Pokemon from boosting, spreading status, or trying to set up or remove hazards. Magic Coat is really useful versus opposing Deoxys-S, Smeargle, and Shuckle as well as the rare Pokemon with the ability Prankster. Skill Swap is nice for punishing Magic Bounce users such as Mega Sableye and Mega Diancie. The Focus Sash allows Deoxys-S to set up at least two layers of hazards or alternatively allows Deoxys-S to more freely use Taunt and not be punished by hard-hitting setup sweepers such as Primal Groudon and Xerneas that choose to attack on the turn that Deoxys-S opts to use Taunt, as it can rely on its Focus Sash to survive any attack and then still freely set up a layer of hazards before it's KOed. Alternatively, a spread with 248 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spe and a Rocky Helmet can be used to outspeed Deoxys-A while maximizing bulk, or if you wish to creep Choice Scarf Xerneas and Yveltal, a spread with 200 Speed EVs can be used. The Rocky Helmet allows Deoxys-S to break opposing Focus Sashes as well as punish spinners and priority users, which it is otherwise unable to do, since it doesn't run any attacking moves. This does, however, make prediction against setup sweepers more of an issue, as using Taunt when the foe chooses to attack can result in Deoxys-S being OHKOed by hard-hitting attackers such as Primal Groudon and Rayquaza and unable to set up hazards altogether. Deoxys-S struggles immensely against Rapid Spin users such as Cloyster and Excadrill. In those cases, it is better to lead with something that can pressure those Pokemon instead of having Deoxys-S fight a losing battle. If Deoxys-S is not running Skill Swap, do not bring it in against Mega Sableye or Mega Diancie, as they both completely shut it down, so you're better off using other offensive Pokemon to pressure them such as Xerneas and offensive Primal Groudon variants. That being said, bringing in Deoxys-S invites in Magic Bounce users, so double switching once Deoxys-S has been brought in can be quite useful to gain momentum. If Deoxys-S is not running Magic Coat, avoid facing opposing Deoxys-S that may have it, as Magic Coat completely shuts Deoxys-S down and basically guarantees that your opponent can get hazards up. Team Options Deoxys-S fits best on hyper offense builds consisting of a dedicated lead and five offensive threats to break through opposing teams, as offensive threats tend to encourage users to either attack or recover off any damage that's been taken, preventing them from having the opportunity to use Defog. Xerneas is a brilliant partner for Deoxys-S, as it is able to punish any Pokemon in the tier that tries to click Defog by setting up with Geomancy and then sweeping through teams. It also really appreciates having the entry hazards on the field, as it makes its common checks a lot easier to dispose of. Necrozma-DM and Primal Groudon act as good partners, as they're able to act as checks to Xerneas, as well as maintain offensive pressure. Both of these Pokemon also have access to boosting moves and therefore can punish Pokemon that use Defog, as it can potentially allow them a free turn of setup. They also appreciate the fact that Deoxys-S runs Stealth Rock, freeing them up to run setup moves and sweep through teams. Mega Salamence and Rayquaza make useful partners, as they provide teams with a Ground immunity and make great late-game sweepers due to their ability to sweep after boosting with Dragon Dance. Priority users such as Marshadow, Arceus, and Mega Lucario are useful for sweeping through teams and are hard to revenge kill due to their use of priority moves. Mega Lucario can revenge kill Xerneas, and Marshadow is one of the only offensive checks to Arceus in the tier. Fast Taunt users such as Mega Mewtwo Y, Mega Gengar, and Yveltal to a lesser extent are incredibly useful partners for Deoxys-S, as they can outspeed support Arceus formes and use Taunt on them before they can clear entry hazards with Defog. Mega Gengar is especially useful, as it can trap support Arceus-Water and potentially eliminate it, preventing it from removing hazards. While Yveltal might lack the Speed that Mega Gengar and Mega Mewtwo Y boast, it is the only viable Taunt user that's able to deal with Giratina-O, as none of the other relevant Taunt users appreciate taking Shadow Sneaks. Spinblockers such as Giratina-O, Lunala, and Marshadow are useful to help deal with Rapid Spin users such as Excadrill, Cloyster, and Smeargle. Marshadow can make a particularly useful option, as all of these spinners are weak to Fighting-type attacks.

Moves Nasty Plot turns Deoxys-S into a threatening setup sweeper and allows it to break bulkier Pokemon such as Celesteela, Zapdos, and Toxapex. Thunderbolt hits Water- and Flying-type Pokemon such as Toxapex, Mantine, and Celesteela for super effective damage. Ice Beam hits Flying-type Pokemon that are not weak to Thunderbolt such as Gliscor, Zapdos, and Landorus-T for super effective damage, working together with Thunderbolt to beat defensive Flying cores effectively. Ice Beam can also hit Ground- and Dragon-type Pokemon such as Garchomp, Hippowdon, and Latios. Energy Ball hits super effectively, which combines with Thunderbolt and Ice Beam to take down Water and Ground teams, respectively. Psycho Boost is an option over Energy Ball as an extremely strong STAB attack that does not need a boost to threaten more offensive Pokemon such as Mega Diancie, Tapu Koko, and Zeraora while also beating Poison-type Pokemon such as Toxapex and Mega Venusaur. It also hits Kyurem-B and can take down Dragon teams in conjunction with Ice Beam. With Shattered Psyche, Deoxys-S can beat most of Energy Ball's targets anyway. Set Details Electrium Z can be used for Gigavolt Havoc, which is especially good for beating specially defensive Celesteela after a Nasty Plot boost. It can also OHKO Pokemon such as Mega Aerodactyl and Mega Charizard Y unboosted. Psychium Z is another option to enable Shattered Psyche for when Deoxys-S cannot find time to boost, and it is required to make using Psycho Boost reliable. If there is another Z-Move user on the team, Expert Belt is an option to take advantage of Deoxys-S's super effective coverage by notably allowing Deoxys-S to OHKO physically defensive Celesteela after a boost and Greninja unboosted. Maximum investment in Special Attack allows Deoxys-S to be as strong as possible. Maximum investment into Speed along with a Timid nature allows Deoxys-S to be as fast as possible, outspeeding common slower offensive threats such as Tapu Koko, Zeraora, and Greninja, as well as certain Choice Scarf users such as Landorus-T, Nihilego, and Hydreigon. Usage Tips Deoxys-S should generally try to sweep or deal significant damage in matchups it excels in such as Water and Flying using Nasty Plot and its amazing Speed and coverage. However, in other matchups such as Steel, Dark, and Fairy where Deoxys-S struggles to sweep, it should try to serve as an early- and mid-game wallbreaker so that its other teammates can sweep. For example, in the Flying matchup, taking minor chip damage while setting up can easily lead to being revenge killed by Dragonite's Extreme Speed. In the matchups where Deoxys-S excels, it should try to set up against defensive Pokemon like Toxapex and Mantine or on forced switches against Pokemon such as Greninja, Garchomp, and Pelipper. However, be careful when setting up against offensive Pokemon like Mega Charizard Y and Tornadus-T in the Flying matchup, as they're often required to stay in to prevent their entire team from getting swept after a free Nasty Plot. Setting up Stealth Rock is largely beneficial for Deoxys-S as a sweeper and revenge killer, as it is great for breaking Dragonite's Multiscale, breaking Focus Sash on Pokemon like Breloom, and chipping away at Pokemon like Celesteela, Mega Charizard Y, and Zapdos. It is especially good in the Flying matchup, as setting up Stealth Rock means Deoxys-S doesn't need to use Nasty Plot to sweep, as the Stealth Rock damage covers up its rather lackluster unboosted Special Attack. Due to its high Speed, Deoxys-S can also be used as a lead in order to grab good matchups against opposing leads such as Tapu Koko, Swampert and Mega Diancie. Its amazing Speed stat also allows it to function as a great revenge killer that is able to revenge kill common offensive threats like Greninja, Landorus-T, Tapu Koko, and Zeraora. Try to remove entry hazards, particularly Toxic Spikes, before sending Deoxys-S in to sweep. Removing Toxic Spikes is especially important in the Water matchup, where Deoxys-S excels, because it will need to frequently swap between its coverage moves in order to effectively dismantle the opposition. Be careful around status inducers such as Rotom-W and Zapdos that can threaten to paralyze or badly poison Deoxys-S. The former lowers its Speed and the latter wears it down over time, both making Deoxys-S easier to revenge kill and check. Team Options Choice Band Victini and Mega Gallade are both amazing physical wallbreakers that support Deoxys-S. They can both break down Steel- and Dark-types as well as specially bulky Pokemon such as Jirachi, Ferrothorn, Mega Sableye, Alolan Muk, and Chansey, eliminating a majority of Deoxys-S's defensive checks. Mega Gallade can also pick off Pokemon such as Alolan Raichu and Choice Scarf Latios with Shadow Sneak for Deoxys-S. In return, Deoxys-S is able to threaten faster Pokemon such as Tornadus-T, Greninja, Tapu Koko, and Zeraora that Victini and Mega Gallade struggle against. As a setup sweeper with lackluster bulk, Deoxys-S appreciates Healing Wish users such as Latias and Celebi, as they can heal it if it ever gets worn down or inflicted with status. Choice Scarf Latias can beat revenge killers such as +1 Mega Sharpedo and Choice Scarf Terrakion for Deoxys-S. Latios is another more powerful Choice Scarf user that can beat the aforementioned Pokemon, or it can serve as a formidable wallbreaker using its higher Special Attack in order to beat shared checks like Celesteela for Deoxys-S. Latias's and Latios's access to Defog is crucial because they can remove Toxic Spikes, Spikes, and Stealth Rock, which chip at Deoxys-S's health, as well as Sticky Web, which slows it down. Jirachi and Celebi can both support Deoxys-S with Stealth Rock, which helps Deoxys-S wear down the opposing team by forcing switches. They can also pivot into strong attacks that threaten Deoxys-S, such as Latios's Draco Meteor and Mega Swampert's Waterfall, and bring it in with U-turn. As a stallbreaker, Mew can take on many walls like Chansey, Alolan Muk, and Ferrothorn and remove Choice Scarf from Pokemon like Latios and Greninja, paving the way for Deoxys-S to clean. Its stallbreaking capabilities allow Mew to take on matchups that Deoxys-S struggles in such as Steel and Normal very well. Alakazam is a good partner for Deoxys-S because it can blanket check physical attackers like Mega Sharpedo, Excadrill, and Bisharp.

Moves Taunt blocks status moves, preventing the foe from setting up, using Taunt, laying entry hazards, and using Defog. Stealth Rock is the primary entry hazard, as it hits every type and greatly aids in the matchup versus Flying-, Bug-, and Fire-type teams. Light Screen halves the power of opposing special attacks, giving free setup opportunities to Deoxys-S’s teammates and the ability to survive attacks versus most special attackers, and Reflect rounds out the moveset, performing the same role with physical attacks. Knock Off is another option over screens to cripple the opposing team by removing items and giving Deoxys-S a small form of offensive presence against frail foes. Spikes is a secondary entry hazard that can be run alongside Knock Off that further punishes switching. Set Details 252 Speed EVs and a Timid nature maximize Deoxys-S’s Speed, allowing it to Speed tie with opposing Deoxys-S and outpace anything slower; if Knock Off is used, a Jolly nature should instead be run. 248 HP EVs increase Deoxys-S’s bulk while hitting a passive damage number, allowing it to live an extra round of burn, weather, and poison damage. Pressure is Deoxys-S’s only ability and allows it to better wear down the PP of Defog, ensuring its entry hazards aren't removed. 8 Special Defense EVs ensure Download gives Porygon-Z an Attack boost. Light Clay increases the length of Light Screen and Reflect, allowing for longer protection, but if neither screen is run Focus Sash all but ensures Deoxys-S can get off an attack or entry hazard on the second turn. Usage Tips Deoxys-S should almost always lead in order to set up entry hazards as quickly as possible. Use the respective screen against offensive Pokemon to allow Deoxys-S to take their attacks. Taunt should be used to block harmful status moves such as setup moves, Defog, and entry hazards, but in many cases, the threat of Taunt is enough. If running Knock Off, only use it versus highly item-reliant Pokemon such as Chansey and Choice Scarf Victini to prevent them from doing their job later; in most other cases, it is better to set an extra layer of entry hazards or screens. Should the opponent have a Mega Sableye, either lead with a different Pokemon or restrict Deoxys-S to setting screens; the same goes for Rapid Spin users, albeit to a lesser extent. Deoxys-S does not have to function solely as a suicide lead; its solid bulk, particularly when combined with screens, means it may often be used multiple times in a match. However, it's often useful to sacrifice Deoxys-S in order to get another Pokemon in for free with entry hazards up; it can use Taunt and screens to stop setup sweepers. Be wary of being too obvious in the use of Taunt, as most Pokemon can instead use that turn to attack and heavily injure Deoxys-S. Team Options Mew is an excellent teammate for Deoxys-S, as Light Screen and Reflect give Mewnium Z sets numerous opportunities to use Nasty Plot and Rock Polish, while Mew's offensive pressure means that it's difficult for most foes to use Defog; the stallbreaker set, meanwhile, can use Taunt to block Defog and appreciates the use of entry hazards to punish switching. Victini appreciates the entry hazard support to wear down switch-ins, particularly alongside U-turn, and it enjoys the fact that Deoxys-S can prevent the foe from setting up Stealth Rock with Taunt. Alakazam appreciates entry hazard support so that foes cannot freely switch when avoiding Counter; it also doesn't mind the dearth of hazard removal that hazard stacking causes. Meloetta handles Ghost-type Pokemon such as Gengar and Mega Sableye and appreciates Stealth Rock to reliably 2HKO Chansey. Gardevoir threatens to OHKO Mega Sableye, forcing it out, and greatly turns around the corresponding Dark matchup; in other games, Gardevoir appreciates entry hazard support making it harder to switch for its revenge killing. Latios makes great use of entry hazards, as they allow it to wear down answers such as Mantine and prevent them from switching in readily.

Moves Taunt is necessary to prevent the opposing Pokemon from setting up or Defogging. This also forces Pokemon to attack and eliminate Deoxys-S. Deoxys-S provides an effective means of setting Stealth Rock, and this potentially frees up a teammate's moveset, usually Primal Groudon's. Skill Swap is needed to ensure entry hazards can be set against Pokemon with the ability Magic Bounce. Magic Coat is used to reflect incoming Taunt and thus gives some edge when facing opposing Deoxys-S or hyper offense teams. Spikes can be used instead of Magic Coat as a secondary entry hazard to set once Stealth Rock is in place, giving Deoxys-S something worthwhile to do until it faints. Set Details 248 HP EVs with 244 Defense EVs let Deoxys-S avoid being limited to a single layer of hazards by a Choice Band Ho-Oh's Sacred Fire that burns as well as prevent Deoxys-S from being OHKOed by most physical attacks. 16 Speed EVs and a Timid nature make Deoxys-S faster than maximum Speed Deoxys-A and Mega Aerodactyl. A Rocky Helmet punishes moves that make contact, most notably priority moves and Rapid Spin. Usage Tips Anti-leads to Deoxys-S spotted at Team Preview may necessitate leading with another Pokemon. Even then, there are very few Pokemon that can deny this set at least Stealth Rock. Against threats that pose a great danger after setup, Taunt is used to prevent them from boosting. Threats such as Rayquaza that can set up and anti-lead Deoxys-S reasonably well are the most troublesome. Against Mega Sableye and Mega Diancie, you will have to use Skill Swap before Stealth Rock can be set. Mega Diancie 2HKOes with Moonblast and Mega Sableye only 3HKOes with Foul Play, so there is sufficient time to get Stealth Rock in place. Opposing Diancie and Sableye may choose not to Mega Evolve, in which case Deoxys-S will be unable to Skill Swap Magic Bounce. In this situation, Deoxys-S can always opt to set Stealth Rock immediately, which will ensure Stealth Rock against these foes, but this may come at the cost of having it on your side as well. Spinners are sufficiently punished by Rocky Helmet, meaning entry hazards can be continually re-set. Getting entry hazards up and then switching to a Ghost-type can also work. Against opposing Deoxys-S, you have a greater advantage if your set is running maximum Speed or if you have a Mental Herb; otherwise, you may want to anti-lead with a teammate. If Deoxys-S is paralyzed, it will no longer be fast enough to Taunt Defoggers before they remove entry hazards. Against such threats, it can use Taunt and set up hazards afterwards, but Deoxys-S may not survive for that long. Team Options Freeing up Primal Groudon's moveset is a large draw of running Deoxys-S. For this reason, Rock Polish, Swords Dance, or Double Dance Primal Groudon is a desirable teammate. Darkrai is a good partner due to how it threatens defensive teams and can lead well against some of the Pokemon Deoxys-S struggles to set up Stealth Rock on. Swords Dance Arceus formes are typically good fits for offensive builds that utilize Deoxys-S; Extreme Killer Arceus can revenge kill Darkrai and threaten Pokemon with Speed Boost, Arceus-Ghost can provide an immunity to Normal-type priority moves, and Arceus-Ground crushes Mega Diancie. A Mega Diancie of your own can lead against Darkrai and opposing Deoxys-S well and also checks several of the strong special attackers that Rocky Helmet Deoxys-S fears. Xerneas is another offensive Fairy-type that can lead well against Darkrai and Deoxys-S if it has a Choice Scarf, and it can also take full advantage of the hazard support Deoxys-S provides with a Geomancy set.

Deoxys-S's blistering Speed and access to both Stealth Rock and Spikes make it the most efficient entry hazard setter in the metagame. Stealth Rock is a valuable and hard to come by move in XY DOU, weakening prominent Pokemon such as Volcanion, Thundurus, and Kyurem-B. Spikes allows Deoxys-S to weaken grounded foes even further, limiting the number of times foes will want to switch and setting up pins for its offensive teammates. Deoxys-S also has a decent offensive presence, as most Pokemon that don't resist Psycho Boost will take over 50% from it. Psycho Boost OHKOes Deoxys-A and most Mega Gengar variants and deals massive blows to Assault Vest Conkeldurr and Amoonguss. Ice Beam can be used to threaten the omnipresent Landorus-T as well as Mega Salamence. The Speed investment allows Deoxys-S to outspeed Mega Swampert in rain and OHKO Choice Scarf Landorus-T 13/16 of the time as well as 252 HP Mega Gengar. Maximum HP is mostly to have a solid benchmark defensive investment, but it is worth noting that this lets you survive Choice Band Talonflame's Brave Bird from full health. Its respectable bulk should let it set multiple hazards or threaten sizeable damage after setting Stealth Rock. As it has a very vast movepool, Deoxys-S can run a variety of fourth move options over Spikes, such as Taunt, Hidden Power Fire for Genesect, Energy Ball for Mega Swampert and Gastrodon, Flash Cannon for Mega Diancie, and even the safe Protect. If you opt for a more offensive moveset, consider increasing your Special Attack investment and running Life Orb or Expert Belt to achieve your specific desired benchmarks. Mega Kangaskhan is one of the best Pokemon to pair with Deoxys-S, as it can use Fake Out on the first turn to allow Deoxys-S to set Stealth Rock. Mega Kangaskhan can then finish off weakened foes with Seismic Toss late-game. Genesect, Talonflame, and Choice Scarf Landorus-T are fast and powerful attackers that can claim KOs much easier thanks to the hazards Deoxys-S provides. Bulky Assault Vest users like Volcanion and Conkeldurr make great teammates, as they excel at winning trades against chipped enemies. Aegislash is effectively a hard counter to Deoxys-S, so teams should prepare counters such as Overheat Volcanion, Life Orb Landorus, or Life Orb Bisharp to check it.

No Guard users, Deoxys-S the fastest one among them, are some of the most centralizing and threatening Pokemon in Pure Hackmons due to their perfectly accurate Sheer Cold. Sing allows Deoxys-S to hinder checks with sleep while ignoring Substitutes and Safety Googles. Gastro Acid removes Wonder Guard and Sturdy from Pokemon like Mega Scizor and Giratina, which makes them susceptible to Sheer Cold. Stealth Rock takes advantage of Deoxys-S's ability to force switches and racks up chip damage on Wonder Guard users, its usual checks. Zap Cannon and Inferno benefit from No Guard and allow Dexoys-S to hit specific Wonder Guard users such as Gyarados and Mega Scizor; if these moves are run, an EV spread of 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe is recommended. However, sets running Zap Cannon or Inferno face stiff competition from No Guard users that can make use of these moves more effectively, in particular Mega Mewtwo Y. Focus Sash alleviates Deoxys-S's bulk issues. Deoxys-S's main roadblock is a combination of two Wonder Guard users, which can continually swap into its Gastro Acid and waste its PP; therefore, anti-Wonder Guard measures are heavily recommended. Shadow Tag users such as Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Mewtwo Y, Primal Groudon, and Mega Latios can trap and remove Wonder Guard users lacking a Shed Shell, in particular Leftovers Wonder Guard Xerneas and Safety Goggles Arceus; in return, Deoxys-S can pressure Pokemon like Giratina and offensive Mold Breaker users for them. Mold Breaker users with Knock Off like Mega Gyarados can remove Shed Shells from Wonder Guard users, allowing Shadow Tag users to remove them more efficiently; this lets Deoxys-S clean up teams more efficiently. Powerful Mold Breaker users such as Primal Groudon, Mega Rayquaza, Mega Mewtwo Y, and Mega Latios can brute force their way past many a Wonder Guard user. Finally, Huge Power + Pursuit users like Mega Gyarados and Yveltal can fish for matchups against Wonder Guard users weak to Pursuit, such as Cresselia, Meloetta, and Dusclops.

Moves Stealth Rock breaks Sturdy and Focus Sash and provides useful residual damage throughout the match, while Spikes helps deal with bulkier teams and scouts whether any Pokemon in the opposing team have Levitate. Taunt prevents slower leads from setting their entry hazards up, and it can also prevent other Pokemon from using Deoxys-S as setup fodder. Knock Off is a filler move that gives Deoxys-S an offensive presence before it faints, so Deoxys-S can break Focus Sash, and Sturdy and even remove some annoying items from foes. Psycho Boost can be used over Knock Off, as it is a very powerful STAB move that deals a lot of damage. Magic Coat can be used over Taunt in order to prevent faster Taunt users, especially Prankster + Taunt users, from blocking entry hazards. Set Details 252 HP EVs and 216 Defense EVs are given to Deoxys-S to increase its bulk in order to resist most priority moves. This spread allows Deoxys-S to be OHKOed by only a few Pokemon in the tier; 40 Speed EVs, on the other hand, allow it to outspeed Mega Manectric, the fastest non-Choice Scarf user. Red Card allows Deoxys-S to phaze opposing Pokemon after being hit. This helps Deoxys-S with setting up as many entry hazards as possible, making it less weak to priority moves. An Impish nature is chosen with Knock Off, whereas a Bold one is chosen with Psycho Boost. Usage Tips Deoxys-S has to be used as a lead almost always except when the opponent might have a Magic Coat user or a slow spinner. Use Taunt in order to prevent entry hazards from being set up or to outrun other Taunt users, if it's needed. Set up as many entry hazards as possible in order to pressure the opposing team. Be careful because entry hazards should not be removed easily, so if you are facing a Defogger, use Taunt, and, if you are facing a spinner instead, switch Deoxys-S out in order to block Rapid Spin with a Ghost-type. Team Options Spinblockers and Pokemon able to get an advantage from Defog, such as Competitive and Defiant users, are all great partners; in fact, Deoxys-S is often KOed early-game, and it is therefore important to maintain the entry hazards set by Deoxys-S. Flash Fire Doublade is a good partner, as it is the only spinblocker that can deal with Choice Scarf Desolate Land Victini, which is about the only viable Pokemon able to OHKO Deoxys-S. Magic Bounce users can help deal with Pokemon with Prankster that are able to prevent Deoxys-S from setting up entry hazards. Priority users such as Gale Wings users and powerful attackers are able to benefit from the entry hazards that Deoxys-S sets.

Moves Psycho Boost can deal a great amount of damage and is Deoxys-S's strongest STAB move. Psycho Boost can also make Deoxys-S vulnerable to Pursuit users, however, as they are able to revenge kill it on the switch. Ice Beam provides good coverage, as it hits Dragon- and Flying-types super effectively. Superpower is used to hit Steel-types in particular, and it has good synergy with Deoxys-S's other moves. Knock Off is very useful to hit Ghost-types and can threaten opposing teams by removing their Pokemon's items. Thunderbolt can be used over Ice Beam in order to hit bulky Water-types such as Suicune. Set Details 240 Special Attack EVs are given to Deoxys-S in order to deal as much damage as possible with its special attacking moves. 236 Speed EVs with a Naive nature are enough to outspeed Choice Scarf Garchomp without decreasing Deoxys-S's offensive stats. 32 Attack EVs are invested as a filler and contribute to the power of Deoxys-S's physical attacks. This investment ensures a 2HKO against Chansey with Knock Off and Superpower. Download boosts an offensive stat, depending on which one of the foe's defenses is lower; it is very helpful for a mixed attacker. Finally, Life Orb increases Deoxys-S's offensive power. Usage Tips Deoxys-S can't switch into almost any Pokemon. It must be used as a revenge killer after one of your Pokemon has fainted. It generally forces switches, so be aware of the move you are using, as an overprediction could cause Deoxys-S to get KOed. Team Options Deoxys-S should be paired with bulky Pokemon that resist powerful attacks, especially from Choice Scarf users and priority users, as Deoxys-S can't stay in against them. Entry hazard setters are good partners, as Deoxys-S is relatively weak, even with Download, and it needs some entry hazard support in order to secure a lot of OHKOs and 2HKOs.

While 95 base offenses may not seem like much, Deoxys-S has all it needs to be one of the most annoying attackers around. Psycho Boost is its powerful STAB move, OHKOing Pokemon such as Keldeo, Rotom-W, and Chandelure. Superpower provides good coverage alongside Deoxys-S's Psychic STAB, isn't affected by the Special Attack drop, and OHKOes 252 HP Tyranitar, all while denting other threats such as Heatran. Ice Beam is the best option for the third slot, OHKOing Breloom without forcing the Special Attack drop of Psycho Boost. It also OHKOes Garchomp, Gliscor, and Dragonite with its Multiscale broken. Hidden Power Fire is the best option in the final slot, OHKOing Choice Scarf Genesect before it can U-turn. Luckily, the loss of a Speed IV for Hidden Power Fire is not a big deal, since all the Choice Scarf users Deoxys-S is able to outspeed sit at 500 or below. Shadow Ball is an option if you're worried about Psychic-types, particularly opposing Deoxys-S. Thunderbolt helps against Water-types such as Gyarados and Politoed, but note that a neutral Psycho Boost is stronger than a 2x effective Thunderbolt. The EVs serve a special purpose. With a Life Orb and 12 Attack EVs, Superpower will always OHKO 252 HP Tyranitar. Deoxys-S also does not lose any KOes with the slightly lower Special Attack stat, so the little investment is worth it. A Naive nature ensures Deoxys-S's special and physical attacks hit as hard as possible and give it a maximum of 504 Speed, outpacing positive-natured Choice Scarf Garchomp and all slower Pokemon. Naive is chosen over Hasty because, in general, more physical attacks are directed at Deoxys-S; an example is Chople Berry Tyranitar's Crunch. ​ Deoxys-S can fit well on any offensive team, surprising a few of the most common Pokemon early in the match or cleaning a weakened team later in the match. Entry hazards obviously ease this process, and although this variant is an attacker, it can force switches. Thus, Spikes or Stealth Rock can find itself on the moveset, replacing an unnecessary coverage move. Deoxys-S's main problem is that its two main moves lower its stats; therefore, walls such as Chansey and Blissey have the potential to stall it out. Strong physical attackers such as Breloom are a good choice to take these blobs out. Wallbreakers in general are good partners as well, since Deoxys-S only has base 95 offenses to work with.

With decent bulk and blazing Speed, Deoxys-S is a great Pokemon to set entry hazards. It can layer Spikes immediately, using the HP investment to survive weak attacks. Stealth Rock is another great move, providing residual damage on all opponents. Taunt is the best move in the third slot, since with Deoxys-S's Speed, it can stop other leading Pokemon from setting up their hazards or throwing status around. It also prevents opposing sweepers from setting up on Deoxys-S while it sets up hazards. The last slot is reserved for an attacking move. Superpower has a chance at OHKOing 252 HP Tyranitar. However, Fire Punch is a viable option to maim Genesect, though 160 Attack EVs are required to always OHKO. Lastly, you can consider Psycho Boost, which hits Pokemon such as Chandelure and Rotom-W hard on the initial hit. The EVs are to attain the greatest overall bulk. Speed is maximized so Deoxys-S can set up before all but Prankster Taunt users. The rest is dumped into HP, allowing Deoxys-S to survive a U-turn from Genesect amongst other weaker, super effective jabs. A Jolly or Timid nature depends on the attacking move used. Life Orb is an option over Focus Sash, since with the former Deoxys-S can OHKO Tyranitar and Genesect with only 12 Attack EVs. However, this decreases Deoxys-S's survivability and doesn't ensure at least one layer of hazards. Magic Coat is an option on this set, with or in place of Taunt. It is useful for reflecting opposing hazards or status, sometimes forcing a switch. However, it is prediction heavy, which causes a lot of pressure during the early turns of the match. Virtually every Dream World team benefits from hazards due to the offensive nature of the metagame. For example, +2 Breloom can 2HKO Dragonite after Stealth Rock, and has a small chance at OHKOing Thundurus! Genesect is a good partner to this set as well, capitalizing on the switches forced by U-turn. Offensive rain and sun teams also appreciate Deoxys-S for not only hazards but also the possible KO on Tyranitar.

While Deoxys-S doesn't have self-eliminating moves such as Memento, its great Speed makes it an excellent dual screen user. As such, Reflect and Light Screen are the main moves. When leading, a discerning player can choose Reflect or Light Screen depending on the predicted attack and survive more hits. From there, Deoxys-S can set up the other screen and even Stealth Rock or a few layers of Spikes. In the case that the opponent tries to set up, Deoxys-S can use Taunt to stop it cold. However, Magic Coat is an option to bounce back an opponent's entry hazard or the rare Prankster Taunt. The last slot is a toss up between Stealth Rock and Spikes. The former is a great universal form of entry hazards, its ubiquity limiting the potential of many threats such as Dragonite and Chandelure. However, Deoxys-S can take advantage of the stackability of Spikes and put pressure on the opponent when considering switching. Because this variant generally doesn't attack, maximum HP is the best choice, allowing Deoxys-S to survive even more hits after putting up screens. To prolong the protection for the team, Light Clay is the optimal item. However, Leftovers extends the survivability of Deoxys-S itself, possibly giving it the chance to come back later in the match. ​ Offensive teams benefit the most from Deoxys-S's support. Baton Pass chains, and SmashPass in particular, relish the increased bulk. Gorebyss, with its already decent defenses, can pass to deadly receivers such as Garchomp (which itself is bulky) with relative safety. Other offensive Pokemon such as Keldeo and Breloom, which are rather prone to revenge killing, can survive an attack and eliminate the offender. Prankster Taunt, albeit rare, is still an issue, so leading with an attacker is the best bet for ensuring Deoxys-S's success.
