Moves Play Rough allows Granbull to OHKO most Fighting-types in the tier, with the exception of Hitmontop, Emboar, and Gurdurr; it also OHKOes Sneasel and nearly all variants of Flygon. Earthquake hits the Fire-, Poison-, and Steel-types that resist Play Rough, such as Delphox, Qwilfish, and Registeel, and gives Granbull nearly perfect neutral coverage with Play Rough, only missing out on Bronzong. Heal Bell lets Granbull provide valuable team support. Roar adds phazing support to your team and helps by racking up entry hazard damage on expected switch-ins, but keep in mind that the brought-in foe won't suffer a penalty to their Attack from Intimidate. On balanced teams, Thunder Wave is a better option for Granbull's last moveslot because it cripples setup sweepers and expected switch-ins. RestTalk can be used as an alternative over Heal Bell and Roar, but Granbull isn't fast or bulky enough to really take advantage of Rest, and Sleep Talk is unreliable. Set Details Intimidate is one of the big advantages Granbull has over Aromatisse and Togetic, as it artificially improves Granbull's bulk and lowers physical threats' offensive presence. 248 HP and 252 Defense EVs allow Granbull to take as many physical hits as possible, while an Impish nature further boosts Granbull's bulk. The remaining 8 EVs are invested into Attack. Leftovers gives Granbull passive recovery, making it less reliant on Wish support. Usage Tips Granbull acts best as a pivot into physical attackers, including setup sweepers such as Scrafty and Swords Dance Virizion and wallbreakers such as Hitmonlee and Medicham. Granbull is one of the better switch-ins to Knock Off because it resists Dark-type attacks, drops the foe's Attack with Intimidate, and, unlike Togetic, does not rely on its item for its bulk. This set generally works best on stall and balanced teams. On balanced teams, it's often better to use Aromatisse or Togetic to consolidate your cleric support with Wish passing or Defogging, though Granbull does offer phazing support. Team Options Because Granbull lacks instant recovery, Wish support is helpful. Alomomola makes for a strong partner, especially because Granbull can use Heal Bell to cure Alomomola of Toxic, which is often used to wear it down. Granbull often causes the opponent to switch, so entry hazard support helps. Rhyperior and Bronzong are great defensive Stealth Rock users that help deal with opposing Poison- and Steel-types. Cradily is another solid option for its ability to take special hits and recover off the damage it received. Specially defensive Drapion, Roselia, and Cofagrigus can provide Toxic Spikes support, which helps wear down the opposing team. Drapion and Roselia also help by absorbing Toxic Spikes. Cofagrigus is especially helpful in combination with Granbull, as they can cripple most physical attackers with the combination of Intimidate, Will-O-Wisp, Thunder Wave, and Mummy. Granbull's ability to absorb Knock Off makes it a good partner to Psychic-types such as Meloetta, Sigilyph, and Delphox, Ghost-types such as Cofagrigus and Gourgeist-XL, and Eviolite holders such as Roselia and Golbat. Granbull tends to switch in a lot, so hazard removal from Flygon and Hitmontop helps Granbull stick around longer and they take care of the Steel-types Granbull attracts. In return, Flygon benefits from Granbull's immunity to Dragon-type attacks, and Hitmontop forms a "double Intimidate" core with Granbull.

Moves Play Rough puts a serious dent in nearly every Pokemon that doesn't resist Fairy-type attacks; with Choice Band, Granbull 2HKOes Jellicent, mixed defensive Quagsire, and Aromatisse after Stealth Rock damage. Fire Punch allows Granbull to OHKO or 2HKO common switch-ins, such as Venusaur, Escavalier, and Bronzong. Granbull's Choice Band-boosted Earthquake OHKOes Drapion after Stealth Rock damage, as well as Fire-types such as Mega Camerupt and Emboar. Choice Band-boosted Close Combat 2HKOes Registeel, Rhyperior, and Piloswine. Physically offensive Flygon and many Fighting-types, such as Medicham and Swords Dance Virizion, are generally good foes to switch in on, though many Fighting-types also run Knock Off, such as Hitmonlee, Gurdurr, and Gallade. With Leftovers, Granbull plays similarly to a defensive set but with greater offensive presence and more varied coverage, though it's susceptible to status if lacking Heal Bell. Team Options Choice Band Granbull punches holes in the opponent's team, so late-game cleaners that struggle against bulky Steel-types, such as Vivillon, Klinklang, and Fletchinder, make for good partners. Knock Off support from Hitmonlee, Scrafty, or Gallade helps Granbull wear down bulky Water- and Flying-types that it struggles against when not running Wild Charge, such as Alomomola, Jellicent, Qwilfish, Golbat, and Togetic. Knock Off also helps against bulky Ghost-types, such as Cofagrigus and Gourgeist-XL. Dedicated checks for bulky Water- and Flying-types also make for good partners. Venusaur and Virizion check Water-types; Rhyperior and Mega Glalie check Flying-types; and Rotom-C, Eelektross, and Jolteon check both. Status absorbers such as Sigilyph and Gurdurr work well with Granbull, especially because Sigilyph counters most Poison-types, such as Qwilfish and Venusaur, and Gurdurr helps break through bulky Ghost-types. Scald absorbers such as Seismitoad, Lapras, and Poliwrath are helpful as well. Seismitoad and Lapras are also good for taking on Fletchinder. Seismitoad also provides Stealth Rock support, while Lapras helps take out bulky Water-types thanks to Freeze-Dry and benefits from Granbull's ability to check Fighting-types.

This set is Granbull's only set that isn't entirely outclassed by something else in the tier. Return is Granbull's main attacking move, as anything that doesn't resist it will be taking a lot of damage. Next, there is a choice to be made for coverage between Close Combat and Crunch. Close Combat hits the Rock- and Steel-types that would resist Return but leaves Granbull walled by Ghost-types. Crunch hits Ghost-types super effectively, most notably, Golurk but it leaves Granbull walled by Rock- and Steel-types. Heal Bell is the move that gives Granbull its niche as an offensive supporter by healing itself and its team of status. The last slot should be either Thunder Wave or Toxic. Thunder Wave helps alleviate Granbull's speed problem while also slowing down faster threats for the rest of Granbull's team, while Toxic should always be used with Close Combat so Granbull isn't completely walled by Ghost-types, specifically Golurk, which is immune to both Close Combat and Thunder Wave. An Adamant nature is chosen to maximize Granbull's attacking power, though an Impish nature can be used if more physical bulk is desired. All three offensive moves can be used on this set along with one of the support moves, but this option is mostly outclassed by other Normal-types such as Miltank. Body Slam can be used over Return for its paralysis chance, but Granbull will miss the extra power, not to mention the fact that Body Slam is illegal with Close Combat. Even with Intimidate, Granbull is still afraid of Fighting-type attacks, so Misdreavus and Musharna make excellent defensive partners to shore up this weakness with the former being able to burn foes with Will-O-Wisp and the latter being able to set up with Calm Mind. Offensively, anything that can get rid of the Rock-, Steel-, and Ghost-types that wall Granbull make a good partner as well. The best offensive partner for Granbull would be Golurk. Golurk can switch in on Fighting-type attacks that threaten Granbull and take out all the Rock-, Steel-, and Ghost-types that Granbull cannot hit hard with its STAB attacks. It also benefits from Thunder Wave slowing down faster threats or Toxic wearing down walls. Skuntank can't touch Rock- and Steel-types, but it can Pursuit trap the Ghost-types that Granbull struggles with. Many Pokemon appreciate Granbull's Heal Bell support and its ability to lure in and Toxic physical walls as well as its ability to paralyze faster Pokemon.

This set is pretty unique to Granbull, and is something Ursaring could never hope to accomplish. The main goal behind this set is to spread either paralysis or poison, and also to be a cleric to the rest of the team with Heal Bell. The fantastic thing about using Granbull as your supporter is that its Attack is actually so high it can threaten opponents with its auxiliary attacks, unlike its fellow Normal-types, such as Chansey, Clefable, and Miltank. Return and Crunch together provide decent neutral coverage, only missing out on Steel-types. Body Slam can be used over Return for the chance to paralyze opposing Ground-types, such as Rhyperior, Dugtrio, and Donphan. The power difference isn't much of an issue, considering there is no Attack investment on this set; however, Return's slightly higher damage output can be helpful when trying to eliminate crippled Pokemon, such as Moltres and Venusaur. Finally, Earthquake can be used over Crunch in the last slot to get a super effective hit on Steel-types, particularly Aggron and Registeel. However, Granbull will then be unable to damage Levitating Ghost-types, and they would be free to set up a Substitute and then do as they please in Granbull's face. The EVs are designed to take advantage of Granbull's decent physical bulk when combined with Intimidate. The Speed EVs allow Granbull to outspeed minimum base 50s, such as Chansey and Registeel. An alternative spread of 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD with a Sassy nature can be used, but Granbull excels in physical defense, and its Special Defense is lackluster even with investment. Low Kick can be used in the last slot, as it damages Registeel and Rhyperior more than Earthquake and is nice for hitting opposing Normal-types such as Kangaskhan for super effective damage; however, Earthquake is still better for specific opponents such as Omastar, Arcanine, and Spiritomb. In the end, it really just comes down to personal preference. When fitting Granbull onto a team, you should include teammates that can take advantage of the paralysis and cleric support that Granbull provides. Rhyperior is an excellent example of such a Pokemon, as with a majority of the opposing team paralyzed, Rhyperior can easily set up a Substitute and begin wrecking the opposing team. As a bonus, Granbull's Heal Bell is the perfect remedy for one of SubPerior's biggest downfalls, Toxic. As a Normal-type, Granbull has a single weakness to Fighting-type attacks, so including teammates to absorb them is highly recommended. Ghost-types, such as Mismagius and Spiritomb, are the most pertinent answer and they also benefit from Granbull's paralysis and cleric support. Granbull lacks any form of recovery outside of Rest, which is a problem as Granbull is then limited in the number of times it can switch in to absorb physical attacks and provide support, so including Wish support to keep Granbull healthy is another good tactic. Xatu is an interesting teammate to provide Wish support as it is 4x resistant to Fighting-type attacks, and in return Granbull can freely switch into any Ghost-type attacks aimed at Xatu. While Granbull is not the best physical wall in existence, it is a hard stop to a unique array of physical attackers in UU. Arcanine, Dragon Dance Feraligatr, Scyther, and Kangaskhan lacking Hammer Arm are all stopped cold and crippled by Granbull (assuming Granbull is switching into them with Intimidate). Teammates who can capitalize on the insurance from Granbull against these Pokemon should definitely be considered. Houndoom is a good example, as any sweep it may attempt is usually stopped cold by the aforementioned Pokemon. Just be extra sure to pack a Ghost-type to absorb any opposing STAB Fighting-type attacks if pairing these two together.

A monster Attack stat, STAB boosted Facade when inflicted by a status condition, and 310 Speed (enough to outpace neutral-natured base 105 Speed Pokemon such as Mismagius) with a Jolly nature and Quick Feet activated, combine to make Granbull quite the menacing presence in UU. While Ursaring directly outclasses Granbull with the same exact set, it doesn't prevent Granbull from causing just as much mayhem. If you're gutsy enough, you could even use both Normal-types for a "Double Dragon"-style strategy, where one of the sweepers opens a hole in the opponent's team and the other finishes it off. Protect allows Granbull to activate its Toxic Orb scot-free and to scout the opponent's next move. STAB Facade is Granbull's main weapon, and even without any Attack boosts, it'll be putting the hurt on a lot of the UU metagame. Crunch crushes Rotom and Mismagius, and Close Combat breaks down Rock- and Steel-types, such as Registeel and Rhyperior. Low Kick is actually a stronger option for Registeel and Rhyperior and comes with the added benefit of not lowering Granbull's defenses; however, Granbull then loses the ability to blast straight through Normal-types, and it's a weaker attack for the lighter-set UU metagame as a whole. A Jolly nature is highly recommended because it allows Granbull to outspeed neutral-natured base 105s, most notably Mismagius, and crush them. An Adamant nature can be used for a little extra power, but Granbull's Attack is already good even with Jolly. Toxic Orb is the recommended item as it reliably inflicts the toxic poison condition on Granbull and boosts its Speed with no other side effects besides the increasing loss in health. Flame Orb cannot be used because, unlike Guts, Quick Feet doesn't negate the Attack drop from a burn. It's important to note that, should the need arise, Granbull can switch into a paralyzing move, such as Thunder Wave, and still get the Speed boost from Quick Feet; unfortunately, the chance to become fully paralyzed still exists, so this isn't recommended. Granbull can also use Life Orb and try to switch into status attacks to activate Quick Feet; however, this strategy is very unreliable, and if Granbull fails to switch into a status move, it's left with just an unboosted Facade for a STAB attack. Granbull is capable of outpacing a majority of the UU tier, but there are still a few threats that it needs some protection against. Registeel makes a great teammate as it can easily switch into Swellow, Sceptile, and Alakazam that lack Focus Blast, all of whom are faster than Granbull after Quick Feet, and either eliminate them or paralyze them with Thunder Wave. Granbull can beat Milotic with boosted Facade after Stealth Rock damage, but is unable to defeat a myriad of other physical walls, such as Tangrowth, Leafeon, Uxie, and Slowbro. Venusaur therefore makes a good teammate, as it can blast the former two into oblivion with Sludge Bomb and defeat Milotic with Leaf Storm. Absol is also worthy of consideration, as it can beat the latter two with a boosted Night Slash. Granbull is actually capable of 2HKOing the aforementioned walls if it runs Bulk Up in place of Crunch. If using Bulk Up, Low Kick should be used in place of Close Combat so that the Defense boosts can amount to something and protect Granbull from the ubiquitous priority attacks in UU.

Granbull is more than capable of running a bread-and-butter Choice Band set, thanks to its massive base 120 Attack stat. The main idea is to switch in comfortably on a weak physical attack with Granbull's respectable bulk, and then fire off the appropriate move. Return is for reliable STAB, Crunch demolishes any Ghost- and Psychic-types, and Close Combat blasts away any Rock- and Steel-types that stand in Granbull's way. The last slot is up to personal preference; Ice Punch nails Altaria and Torterra, while Stone Edge slices Altaria and Moltres. The EVs allow Granbull to outspeed minimum Speed Weezing and Clefable, as well as other slower walls, such as Donphan, Tangrowth, Omastar, Registeel, and Chansey. An alternative spread of 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe and a Jolly nature can be used if you decide to run Quick Feet over Intimidate. However, Intimidate is the recommended nature as Granbull makes a much more effective bulky Choice Bander. Earthquake can be used in the last slot, but Electric-types are extremely uncommon in UU, and Granbull will get much more mileage out of Ice Punch or Stone Edge. Ghost-types, such as Rotom and Dusclops, are fantastic teammates to pair with Granbull as they can switch into Fighting-type moves aimed at it for free and proceed to wreak havoc on the opposing team. Even with a Choice Band, Granbull can never hope to break through Tangrowth and Weezing, so Venusaur and Mesprit make amazing teammates to clear the path for Granbull. Including partners that can take advantage of the holes Choice Band Granbull creates in the opposing team is paramount. With the opponent's walls demolished, set-up sweepers such as Dragon Dance Feraligatr and Swords Dance Scyther have a much easier time doing their job.

The strategy for this set is rather simple: use Bulk Up against weak physical attackers, and Rest off the damage. The Attack drop from Intimidate makes it easier for Granbull to get the first Bulk Up boost. The choice between Earthquake and Shadow Ball depends on your team.

Intimidate is always nice for a lead to have, and this role is where this Granbull functions best. Substitute eases prediction and sets up the powerful Focus Punch, which dents the common Rock and Steel type switch-ins. Return gains STAB, and Shadow Ball is for Ghosts. A Brave nature guarantees Granbull will move last, meaning it can take a hit, set up a Substitute, and then use Focus Punch as they break the Substitute.

Set Description While mono-attacking Granbull sets must sometimes patiently wait for their counters to be chipped down or otherwise removed before they can really let loose, such counters are almost non-existent for this set. Frustration is mandatory as Granbull's powerful STAB attack, 3HKOing a significant portion of the metagame. Hidden Power Ground is similarly important, as it 2HKOes Magneton and Haunter, two Pokemon that very commonly switch into Granbull. Hidden Power Ground can also be used to chip away at Graveler and Omastar, which are two of Granbull's sturdier checks. For its last two moveslots, Granbull can elect to use Curse to boost its attacking power and make it more sturdy against physical attackers such as opposing Granbull, Nidoqueen, and Scyther, as well as against Explosion users such as Electrode. If Curse is used before revealing its moveset, Granbull can also potentially surprise OHKO Magneton and Haunter with +1 Hidden Power Ground, although it only has just under 50% chance to OHKO the latter. As an alternative to Curse, Thunder can be used to threaten Omastar, which takes relatively low damage even from +1 Hidden Power Ground. In addition to threatening a 2HKO on Omastar with Spikes support, Thunder also instantly threatens a 2HKO and paralysis on Qwilfish, Gyarados, and Kabutops and a 3HKO on Slowbro, whereas variants without Thunder must use Curse first to achieve these benchmarks. However, without Curse to boost its Attack, Granbull risks being worn down and beaten by RestTalk users, especially those that are faster such as Hypno, Ampharos, and Blastoise. By boosting its Attack, 3HKOs against these foes become 2HKOs, which makes Granbull much more reliable at taking them down. Granbull has several good options for the final moveslot. The most obvious choice is Lovely Kiss, which grants it a potent weapon with which it can incapacitate many Pokemon that may switch into it, such as Qwilfish, Haunter, and Shuckle. Lovely Kiss can be used offensively, against Granbull's checks, or defensively, against opposing sweepers that are difficult to control, such as Scyther. It can also be used as a way to deal with Baton Pass users, such as Girafarig, or their recipients, such as Quagsire. However, Pokemon such as RestTalk Omastar, Blastoise, and Slowbro may be able to beat Granbull even when it has put them to sleep. An alternative to Lovely Kiss is Protect, which has good synergy with Curse. This will allow Granbull to gain additional Leftovers recovery at crucial times, which could lead to an additional KO. Protect can also be used to scout for moves such as Explosion and Destiny Bond. Finally, Thunder may be used alongside Curse to maximize Granbull's coverage without sacrificing its ability to boost, which can help it deal with nearly all of its checks effectively. Team Options Granbull benefits tremendously from Light Screen and paralysis support. Electrode, Mr. Mime, Hypno, Ampharos, and Chansey are all great options for providing this support. Electrode can also provide offensive momentum with Explosion, whereas Ampharos and Chansey tend to be chosen as part of a defensive core. Depending on the approach taken, Granbull can work on an offensive team that relies on keeping up momentum or can be used on a team that stalls out the opposing team until a good opportunity for Granbull can be found. On offensive teams, Granbull will typically want to run Lovely Kiss to maximize the number of foes it can get past without switching out, whereas on more defensive teams, it may want to consider running Protect in tandem with a spinner to gradually regain health after it takes a foe down. Offensive teams will want to run teammates such as Scyther, Pinsir, and Dodrio, whereas defensive teams might choose Blastoise. Spikes support can help Granbull secure KOs on foes such as Haunter and Omastar, so Qwilfish is a worthy consideration for a teammate. As Granbull can surprise KO Magneton and Haunter, it can be effective to run a second Normal-type with Curse such as Wigglytuff or Chansey to overload the opponent's answers to Curse users. Similarly, Dodrio and Lickitung can potentially benefit from these surprise KOs, as their powerful STAB attacks will no longer be met with resistances. Granbull is also a good Baton Pass recipient and is capable of making good use of both Speed and Attack boosts, so teammates such as Girafarig and Scyther can also perform well with it.

Set Description Curse RestTalk Granbull is one of the most polarizing forces in GSC UU. It combines power and resilience and can use Curse to rapidly boost both to levels that almost cannot be dealt with. On top of this, Granbull also deals well with some of the most prominent metagame forces, such as Nidoqueen and Hypno, thanks to its lack of weaknesses other than Fighting. This means it typically has ample opportunities to switch in throughout a game. Furthermore, thanks to its high physical stats, it dominates other more passive Curse users such as Hypno and Chansey, as well as rarer Curse users such as Wigglytuff and Vileplume. Opposing Granbull also struggle to deal with a Curse RestTalk Granbull, especially if they lack Curse, although Granbull should typically avoid switching into another healthy Granbull. Teams without one of the few Pokemon that resist Normal risk being quickly overwhelmed by a Curse RestTalk Granbull, as it can trade hits favorably with nearly any other Pokemon and can reliably sustain itself with RestTalk. However, teams that do have one of the few reliable answers can sometimes take advantage of Granbull entering the field to launch attacks freely at its teammates as it is forced to retreat. These answers often double as powerful special attackers, such as Omastar, Magneton, and Haunter. Team Options The most crucial Pokemon to handle as a mono-attacking Curse Granbull are its counters, which include Omastar, Magneton, Haunter, and occasionally Graveler. Electric-types such as Ampharos and Electabuzz can be very useful in this regard. Ampharos has the bulk to easily take on any of the special attacking foes with ease, and it can also provide Light Screen support to allow Granbull an opportunity to actually threaten Magneton, which is slightly less reliable than the other two special attacking counters. Electabuzz is a huge threat to many teams, as it has access to super effective coverage for Nidoqueen as well as Fighting-type coverage for Chansey and Magneton. On top of this, Pursuit can be used to weaken or outright remove foes that cause mono-attacking Curse Granbull issues, such as Slowbro and Haunter. However, Electabuzz lacks the bulk of Ampharos, so it is a good idea to back it up with a specially bulky teammate such as Hypno or Slowking. Granbull being a solid answer to Nidoqueen also helps the Electric-types out, as they often invite it in. Ground-types such as Nidoqueen, Piloswine, and Quagsire are also solid choices for dealing with Magneton and Haunter. Granbull also benefits from having teammates that can lure in and KO Magneton and Haunter. Normal-types such as Dodrio and Lickitung and Grass-types like Swords Dance Victreebel, Vileplume, and Bellossom can potentially catch them out with Ground-type coverage. Blastoise can wear down Haunter that attempt to block its Rapid Spin. Lastly, Granbull can also benefit from paralysis spreading to help it deal with powerful special attackers such as Slowbro, Ampharos, Arcanine, and Mr. Mime. Thunder Wave Hypno and Slowking are some of the best options for spreading paralysis to these foes. Grass-types such as Bellossom and Vileplume can also paralyze various foes with Stun Spore.

Set Description Among Granbull's numerous options is one of the most valuable support moves in the game, Heal Bell. Granbull hits quite hard with its unboosted Frustration against nearly everything that doesn't resist it, and Heal Bell is an excellent support option that allows its teammates to play more recklessly against status inducers. For example, teammates such as Nidoqueen and Scyther can more freely make assaults against Grass- and Psychic-types that often sacrifice their health to cripple them with paralysis in return. Furthermore, threats that struggle to fit recovery, such as Belly Drum Quagsire and boosting Politoed variants, can potentially use Rest in their fourth moveslot to assist them in setting up multiple times in a game. However, this Granbull set struggles more than others against bulky RestTalk users such as Slowbro and opposing Granbull, and its lower threat level can allow foes that would normally have to switch out against it to pose a threat. Furthermore, as a mono-attacker, it suffers from similar flaws to Curse RestTalk Granbull against Rock-, Steel-, and Ghost-types, and in particular, it can provide Kabutops with a setup opportunity that Curse Granbull would not provide as easily. Team Options As this Granbull set only has a single attacking move and is therefore easily forced out by Pokemon that resist it, Pokemon that can deal with its counters are highly recommended. Haunter and Omastar both dominate Granbull, but they can be mostly neutralized by teammates such as Hypno, Ampharos, and Slowking. Magneton can similarly be checked by Nidoqueen, Ampharos, and Piloswine. Common offensive threats such as Nidoqueen and Scyther can be more bold when facing Pokemon that threaten to inflict status against them when supported by Granbull's Heal Bell. Similarly, Belly Drum and Growth users such as Quagsire and Politoed can potentially run Rest without Sleep Talk with the intention of waking them up at full health with Heal Bell. This same strategy can also be used with Curse users and Swords Dance users, potentially giving them an opportunity to run a useful coverage attack without sacrificing as much by dropping Sleep Talk. Finally, Rest Blastoise can take advantage of cleric Granbull to give it an extra advantage against Qwilfish as it tries to keep Spikes off the field by either dropping Sleep Talk for a coverage move or reducing the turns it needs to spend using Sleep Talk.

Set Description Granbull's mono-attacking sets have good durability with RestTalk but often find themselves walled and taken advantage of by Pokemon that resist Normal. This set aims to solve that problem without losing too much durability. Normal + Ground coverage is unresisted in GSC UU, and Granbull's STAB Frustration is among the strongest physical attacks in the tier. Hidden Power Ground always 2HKOes Magneton and Haunter and does decent damage to Graveler and Omastar. It should be noted that using Hidden Power Ground reduces Granbull's HP by 16 due to DV requirements, which makes it slightly less bulky than mono-attacking variants. This set really shines when it becomes the recipient of Attack boosts from Scyther, which can make it almost impossible to deal with defensively. Team Options This Granbull set lacks the means to boost its damage output, which can result in poor matchups against bulky special attackers in particular. Scyther is an obvious partner, as it can pass Attack boosts to Granbull, making it almost impossible to wall. Light Screen support from Ampharos can also help both Scyther and Granbull while simultaneously aiding against special attackers. Hypno is a valid alternative to Ampharos that can play a similar role. Bulky Water-types like Slowbro, Blastoise, Omastar, Gyarados, and Feraligatr are also helpful for taking on Ground-types and opposing Granbull. Slowbro can check most physical attackers other than Scyther and Pinsir adequately, Blastoise is an excellent check to Nidoqueen and provides Rapid Spin support, Omastar is one of the best answers to Granbull in the tier and can check Hidden Power Bug Scyther, Gyarados checks Scyther and can function as an alternative Baton Pass recipient, and Feraligatr is a solid all-around Water-type that can also function as a decent Baton Pass recipient.
