In return, Roaring Moon appreciates Dragonite handling Bug- and Fighting-types like Scizor, Volcarona, and Okidogi. Choice Scarf Latias is another great form of speed control, as it handles fast Dragon- and Fighting-types like Choice Specs Dragapult, Iron Valiant, and Great Tusk and it can use Trick to shut down walls like Amoonguss and Skarmory so Dragonite can more easily deal with them. Additionally, it provides Healing Wish support to not only give Dragonite another chance at wallbreaking also restore its Multiscale. Dragonite's wallbreaking opens the door for late-game sweepers such as Swords Dance Garchomp, Calm Mind Raging Bolt, and Calm Mind Latios to set up and start their own sweep.

Dragonite's wallbreaking is appreciated by late-game sweepers like Galarian Moltres that take advantage of Dragonite removing its checks like Clodsire and Toxapex to set up and sweep.

An Adamant nature is preferred, allowing Dragonite to remove Raging Bolt without a boost, while Jolly is an option to outspeed threats like Dragapult and Flutter Mane at +1. Corviknight and Skarmory both make great support for Dragonite, with both handling Ice- and Rock-type threats like Weavile, Mamoswine, and Tyranitar. Corviknight can continue to support Dragonite by using U-turn to provide safe entry and Defog to remove Stealth Rock should Dragonite lose its Heavy-Duty Boots, while Skarmory supports Dragonite with entry hazards to chip down bulky walls such as Galarian Weezing, Corviknight, and opposing Skarmory, which can prove problematic. Gliscor and the Landorus formes remove Electric- and Rock-type threats such as Raging Bolt, Regieleki, and Iron Boulder along with using Stealth Rock to provide additional entry hazard support. Choice Scarf Enamorus removes Dragon- and Dark-type threats like Latios, Dragapult, and Sableye, giving Dragonite safer sweeping opportunities, and provides Healing Wish support to reactivate Multiscale, allowing Dragonite another chance to set up. Tornadus-T forms a solid wallbreaking core, with its powerful special attacks removing physical walls such as Galarian Weezing and Great Tusk, along with taking on foes like Ogerpon-H, which can pose challenges to Dragonite.

Dragonite is one of the best physical attackers in the tier, due to its excellent Attack and access to Inner Focus, which ignores Intimidate and grants immunity to the effects of Fake Out. It's especially threatening as a lead in combination with Chien-Pao or late-game when picking off weakened Pokemon. Outrage, while less consistent due to its random targeting, deals incredible damage even against bulky Pokemon like Ting-Lu and Iron Hands and is devastating on a field without Dragon-resistant or Fairy-type Pokemon. Iron Head is crucial for OHKOing unboosted Diancie and Alolan Ninetales, as well as hitting common Tera Fairy Pokemon like Raging Bolt and Gholdengo. Other valuable partners include Landorus, which can eliminate Steel-types and bulky Pokemon like Iron Hands, Diancie, and Incineroar. Follow Me users like Ogerpon-W and Ogerpon-H can redirect attacks to let Dragonite safely use Extreme Speed, and they also appreciate the damage boost from Chien-Pao. Gouging Fire is another great teammate, as it can further boost Dragonite's Attack with Howl. Dragonite also appreciates entry hazard support from Glimmora and Ting-Lu, as they can chip opposing Pokemon into Extreme Speed's KO range and break Focus Sashes on threats such as Tornadus and Chien-Pao.

Other Pokemon that can deal with the aforementioned walls, like Raging Bolt and Iron Crown, are also greatly appreciated.

Volcarona also appreciates Dragonite being able to provide a crucial Water resistance, helping it against Pokemon such as Ogerpon-W. In return, Mega Diancie can pressure Dragonite's checks like Ferrothorn with Mystical Fire and Zapdos with Diamond Storm. Dragonite can have a difficult time in the face of Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Tapu Lele that still outspeed it after a Dragon Dance, so it values the presence of Steel-types like Gholdengo and Heatran to switch into it. Scale Shot Garchomp and Icicle Spear Kyurem also outspeed and break through Dragonite's Multiscale. Therefore, allies such as Choice Scarf Tapu Lele and Speed Booster Energy Speed Iron Valiant are appreciated to outspeed and threaten these foes. Kingambit also helps versus Air Balloon Gholdengo, which Dragonite does not immediately threaten. Volcarona is also an effective partner, as it can respond to Pokemon that directly threaten Dragonite like Choice Scarf Tapu Lele and Speed Booster Energy Iron Valiant, the former of which blocks Dragonite's Extreme Speed with Psychic Terrain. Great Tusk is an effective partner, since it is able to wear down checks such as Landorus-T with both Stealth Rock and Ice Spinner, letting Dragonite break through opposing teams more easily mid-game. Great Tusk can also help break through Toxapex with Headlong Rush and hit Ferrothorn with Close Combat. In return, Dragonite responds to Water-types like Urshifu-R and Ogerpon-W that force out Great Tusk.

Dragonite is an incredible defensive utility Pokemon thanks to its good stats and useful typing that let it check foes such as Landorus, Ogerpon-W, and Ogerpon-H. It also has a good movepool, with Haze and Dragon Tail making for great anti-setup moves and Roost providing recovery for its team; Multiscale also helps to improve the team's defensive capabilities. Dragon Tail and Haze are good against setup sweepers like Iron Hands, Gholdengo, and Swords Dance Ogerpon formes. Dragon Tail is good for accumulating chip damage, especially on entry hazard-stacking teams, while Haze can clear both foes' stat boosts and teammates' Intimidate drops, and it also works against Fairy-types like Primarina and Diancie as well as Tera Fairy users like Archaludon. Iron Head is good against the aforementioned Fairy-types and Alolan Ninetales as well as Chien-Pao. Ice Spinner hits both Landorus formes, as well as clearing Psychic Terrain. Roost helps provide the team with longevity, helping Dragonite fulfill its role as a defensive wall better. However, Tera Steel does worsen the matchup against Incineroar and prevents Dragonite from checking foes that it normally checks, like Landorus and Ogerpon-H. Notable Partners Entry Hazard Setters: Teammates like Landorus-T and Ting-Lu make for good partners, as Dragonite can take advantage of their entry hazards and its ability to phaze foes to rack up extra hazard chip damage. In return, Dragonite helps them with the longevity issues they struggle with. Be wary of stacking up Ice-weak teammates when using these partners, as foes like Chien-Pao and Kyurem may become problematic to deal with. Fire- and Steel-types: Pokemon like Incineroar, Volcanion, and Gholdengo appreciate Dragonite's ability to switch in on the Ground-type moves that threaten them. Dragonite can also provide recovery to the former two, helping them stay on the field for longer. In return, these partners are good against the Ice- and Fairy-types that Dragonite struggles with, and Incineroar can help Dragonite tank physical attacks better thanks to Intimidate, while Gholdengo gives Dragonite a Spore immunity with Good as Gold.

Choice Band Dragonite is a fearsome wallbreaker that also has access to strong priority in Extreme Speed, allowing it to both break through defensive cores and revenge kill major offensive threats to Flying teams like Greninja and Volcarona. Earthquake rounds out Dragonite's offensive profile, hitting Steel-types like Archaludon and Rock-types like Mega Diancie. While it makes Dragonite a bit worse against the Pokemon that most threaten Flying team structures, Superpower poses an even greater threat to Dark and Normal team staples like Ting-Lu and Porygon2. It also allows Dragonite to easily remove common Air Balloon users like Iron Treads and Heatran. For teammates, Spikes Gliscor is a great partner that can chip opposing Pokemon into Extreme Speed range with entry hazards and pivot Dragonite into wallbreaking opportunities with U-turn. Corviknight is able to remove Stealth Rock for Dragonite while checking revenge killers like Weavile and Meowscarada. Tornadus-T can use Knock Off against shared checks to Dragonite like Corviknight and Porygon2 while helping create openings with Nasty Plot or bring it in with U-turn. Mega Charizard Y is a powerful wallbreaker that can help Dragonite break through defensive cores. Dragonite makes for a great wallbreaker and late-game cleaner on Flying teams, outspeeding threats such as Zeraora and Mega Diancie after a Dragon Dance boost. Earthquake threatens Steel-, Poison-, and Rock-types like Gholdengo, Alolan Muk, and non-Choice Band Hisuian Arcanine. Roost grants Dragonite longevity as well as potentially reactivating Multiscale if its HP is restored to full. Substitute allows it to take advantage of passive Pokemon such as Toxapex, Will-O-Wisp Rotom-W, and Clodsire to set up Dragon Dance, but Roost is preferred since it grants Dragonite more opportunities to sweep. Heavy-Duty Boots is preferred so that Dragonite doesn't need to rely on entry hazard removal to switch in, while Leftovers grants it a form of longevity when it chooses to forego Roost. Mega Charizard Y is Dragonite's most important teammate, forming a great offensive pairing, with it threatening Ice-, Steel-, and Water-types such as Articuno, Alolan Ninetales, Corviknight, and Swampert, while Dragonite handles Galarian Slowking and Mega Charizard X. Corviknight and Celesteela deal with Fairy-, Ice-, and Rock-types such as Tapu Lele, Weavile, and Ogerpon-C; Corviknight also acts as a slow pivot to bring Dragonite in on Gholdengo. Choice Scarf Enamorus provides great speed control, outspeeding and threatening the likes of Mega Altaria and Iron Valiant while also dealing with Dark-types such as Mandibuzz and Mega Sableye. Additionally, Dragonite appreciates Healing Wish from Enamorus, as it can give Dragonite another opportunity to sweep. Thanks to Dragonite acting as a wallbreaker, it can enable fellow sweepers such as Mega Aerodactyl and Galarian Moltres. Mega Aerodactyl deals with Mega Lopunny and Articuno, while Galarian Moltres handles Tapu Bulu and Pecharunt.

With its useful typing, wide offensive movepool, and strong boosting capabilities bolstered by Multiscale, Dragonite can become a frightening setup threat on Dragon teams. Thunder Punch enables Dragonite to hit common switch-ins like Corviknight and Celesteela, along with bulky Water-types like Tapu Fini and Slowbro. Fire Punch is another option for coverage, as it can deal with Corviknight, Celesteela, Mega Scizor, and Ferrothorn. Extreme Speed prevents Dragonite from being easily revenge killed by Choice Scarf threats that outspeed it after a boost, such as Meowscarada and Greninja. Alternatively, Roost grants Dragonite the ability to heal itself, potentially letting it regain Multiscale for further setup opportunities. Archaludon and Hisuian Goodra are essential teammates for Dragonite, as both cover its crippling Ice weakness on both sides of the defensive spectrum. Additionally, Archaludon can answer Choice Scarf Meowscarada and Iron Boulder with its ability to resist the common moves they use against Dragonite such as Mighty Cleave, Play Rough, and Triple Axel, while Hisuian Goodra can switch into threats like Tapu Lele and Kyurem alongside providing an extra way to stop Volcarona’s setup via Dragon Tail if Dragonite chooses to forgo Dual Wingbeat. Kommo-o is a strong partner for Dragonite, using its own boosting capabilities to crush Steel-types like Air Balloon Heatran and Ferrothorn, as well as picking off Ice-types that threaten Dragonite like Weavile and Mamoswine with Vacuum Wave. Roaring Moon appreciates Dragonite dealing with the Fighting-types that threaten it, and in return, Roaring Moon can allow entry for Dragonite via U-turn and pick off threats like Mega Diancie with Iron Head. Choice Scarf Latias enjoys Dragonite removing Steel-types with Earthquake and can provide a second chance for Dragonite to sweep with Healing Wish. Additionally, Latias can revenge kill threats like Kommo-o and Iron Valiant for Dragonite. Kyurem provides an Ice-type neutrality and destroys potential walls to Dragonite such as Skarmory, while also removing Gliscor, which can prevent Dragonite from sweeping with Toxic or Taunt.

With Multiscale's incredible bulk potential and Dragon Tail bypassing Taunt, Dragonite is a unique and very effective phazer that massively ups the danger of entry hazards! Dragon Tail VS. Roar: Dragon Tail is preferred for it disregarding Taunt and providing some good chip damage. However, Roar can phaze out meddlesome Fairy-types and users of Substitute. Entry Hazard Teammates: For this Dragonite to be at its most effective, you'll need some partners to at least set up Stealth Rock. Thunder Wave: Dragonite's bulk makes it an ace at spreading paralysis, making it more of a team supporter. Substitute versus Encore: Substitute is a fantastic option against Pokemon with status moves that threaten Dragonite's phazing cycles, such as Garganacl, Porygon2, and Toxapex. Encore won't do as well against these threats but does punish opposing foes carrying Substitute that can be a problem for Dragon Tail along with slower foes that use status moves in general such as Ting-Lu and Ursaluna-B. Encore can even be used over extra coverage if teammates can deal with Fairy-types. Extreme Speed versus Aqua Jet: Extreme Speed's ability to pick off threats is useful, even on defensive variants of this set. Despite being half as powerful, Aqua Jet is still worth considering for its ability to pick off weakened Flutter Mane, which can be difficult for this set to handle due to its power when Multiscale isn't in play. Items Leftovers: Leftovers is a high value item, but it's worth using on Dragonite if using Substitute, as it gives Dragonite a serious chance of passively gaining Multiscale's effect back. Rocky Helmet: Rocky Helmet allows Dragonite to play more passively, punishing Pokemon that rely on contact moves like Choice Item Urshifu-R and Annihilape. Heavy-Duty Boots: Heavy-Duty Boots' Stealth Rock immunity makes Multiscale more flexible, especially if Dragon Tail brings in a threat Dragonite isn't equipped to handle. Alternate EV Spreads 252 HP / 76 Def / 180 Spe with Impish: This spread gives up quite a bit of bulk in exchange for outspeeding Adamant Breloom, while still often mantaining a Substitute against Garganacl's Salt Cure. 252 HP / 124 Atk / 108 Def / 4 SpD / 20 Spe with Adamant: This EV spread is optimized for use with Earthquake and Aqua Jet, allowing Dragonite to 2HKO 4 Defense Flutter Mane with that combination of moves without needing to Terastallize. Only Modest Tera Fairy Flutter Mane will have a chance to OHKO through Multiscale. 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe with Adamant: This EV spread is a far more offensive approach, mainly for use with Extreme Speed to pick off threats more effectively. Tera Types Tera Dependency - Medium: Dragonite's defensive typing can be quite helpful against foes like Urshifu-R and Chi-Yu, but some of the huge exploitable weaknesses to Pokemon like Chien-Pao and Flutter Mane will require Terastallization to cover. Fairy: Tera Fairy's Dragon immunity gels well with Dragonite and is a great defensive typing in general against foes like Chien-Pao and Urshifu. Steel: Tera Steel is not only an incredible defensive typing that covers much of Dragonite's former weaknesses, but the power boost it provides to Iron Head lets it OHKO all but the most bulky Flutter Mane. Normal: Tera Normal isn't that incredible defensively, but it can be worth it for boosting Extreme Speed's power, letting offensive EV spreads 2HKO Chien-Pao with it.

Paraflinch Dragonite is a defensively oriented Dragonite set that takes full advantage of Terastallization and the element of surprise to cripple and downright defeat numerous Pokemon. Multiscale allows Dragonite to paralyze its foes relatively safely, becoming a massive nuisance for unprepared opponents. Air Slash vs. Iron Head: Air Slash is a more practical move for this set, as it can cover a wider range of Pokemon for at least neutral damage. Air Slash also does not trigger Rocky Helmet and is naturally boosted by Dragonite's STAB. The Iron Head variant of Paraflinch, however, gives Dragonite an easier time against a number of common threats such as Flutter Mane, at the cost of struggling against Gouging Fire before they Terastallize. Encore vs. Substitute: Encore will allow Dragonite to effectively check a wider variety of Pokemon such as Ursaluna-B by locking them into an unfavorable move, giving it a free opportunity to land Thunder Wave on your opponent's switch-in on the following turn. Substitute, on the other hand, will give Dragonite a much easier time dealing with defensive Pokemon that rely on status infliction such as Porygon2 and Dragon Tail Archaludon. Other Options Waterfall: Waterfall can be a viable option. However, the move is less reliable for the application of this set, as its chance to flinch is 20% as opposed to Air Slash and Iron Head's 30%. It does deal more damage to common Electric-types like Thundurus-T though. EV and IV Spreads 244 HP / 236 Def / 28 Spe: 52 Speed EVs are the minimum Speed requirement to outspeed paralyzed Iron Bundle that lack Booster Energy. 252 HP / 140 Def / 116 Spe: This is the minimum requirement to outspeed paralyzed Modest Choice Scarf Chi-Yu. 0 Attack IVs: If using Air Slash, 0 Attack IVs are highly recommended for having a high chance of retaining Substitute against STAB Foul Play users such as Porygon2 Tera Types Tera Dependency - High: In order for Dragonite to survive multiple turns against the likes of Chien-Pao and Flutter Mane, Terastallizating into a better defensive typing is usually a must. Steel: Steel is a great defensive type that provides resistance to Fairy-type attacks, such as Moon Blast from Flutter Mane. If using the physical set, Tera Steel also provides a significant boost to the damage of Iron Head. Fairy: Tera Fairy is Dragonite's best option against opposing Dragon-types, such as Roaring Moon and Gouging Fire. Water: Tera Water provides Dragonite with the much-needed defensive versatility to paralyze and wall common threats, such as Chien-Pao and Azumarill. Water is an excellent defensive type in general with its only weaknesses being Electric and Grass.

Choice Band makes Dragonite both an effective late-game cleaner and revenge killer with Extreme Speed, and a powerful wallbreaker against foes such as Ting-Lu, Ursaluna-B, and Dondozo. Extreme Speed: Boosted by both Choice Band and Tera Normal, Extreme Speed easily 2HKOes up to maximum HP Miraidon that aren't running Electric Seed. Outrage: Outrage is strong enough to potentially 2HKO Bold Ursaluna-B and Impish Dondozo after Stealth Rock damage, though it leaves Dragonite very vulnerable to getting revenge killed. Earthquake: Earthquake provides the best overall coverage against Steel-types that resist Extreme Speed and Outrage. Low Kick: Low Kick is Dragonite's best move against Ursaluna-B, making it much more difficult for Ursaluna-B to stall with Moonlight without defensive Terastallization. Ice Spinner: Ice Spinner is primarily used to punish Landorus-T that try to switch in, and being super effective against common Dragon-types makes it a rather effective midground option when trying to predict switches. Other Options Tera Blast Flying: While not as dominating as in past regulations, Tera Blast Flying is still one of Dragonite's hardest-hitting moves that has no type immunities to worry about. If using this option, a Special Attack IV of 17 or lower is needed to prevent Tera Blast from flipping to a special attack after being hit by Flutter Mane's Charm. Tera Types Tera Dependency - Medium: This Dragonite will usually want to Terastallize to either increase its revenge killing or wallbreaking capabilities, but Choice Band's power doesn't make this strictly necessary. Normal: Tera Normal massively boosts Dragonite's revenge killing potential with Extreme Speed and cuts off Calyrex-S's Astral Barrage from doing any damage. Flying: With Tera Blast, Tera Flying is a strong wallbreaking option that lets Dragonite potentially 2HKO bulky Pokemon like defensive Ursaluna-B. It also lets Dragonite demolish offensive Urshifu formes without the need for Outrage.

Due to Dragonite's offensive presence and high bulk, many opponents choose to either check it defensively or set up against it to break through Roost + Multiscale. Against either option, Encore can turn Dragonite practically invincible allowing it to reside on the field indefinitely in most cases. Fire Spin: This allows Dragonite to defeat almost any Pokemon universally by simply making full use of its longevity. Trapping an Encore locked Pokemon in the field is also highly valuable. Fire Spin is used instead of Wrap because it affects Ghost-types and doesn't trigger chip damage from Rough Skin and Rocky Helmet. Earthquake versus Iron Head: Earthquake prevents Dragonite from being entirely passive against Archaludon, Gouging Fire, and Flutter Mane. Meanwhile, Iron Head fits using Tera Steel, and does massive damage to Flutter Mane. Draco Meteor: With a Bold Nature, Draco Meteor is a powerful move that can catch opposing Dragon-types off-guard and deal big damage to Ursaluna-B and Urshifu formes. Items Leftovers versus Heavy-Duty Boots Generally, Leftovers preserves Dragonite’'s longevity best, as it cancels out the damage from Sandstorm and makes timer stall easier. However, the increased usage of entry hazard setters in response to Dragonite makes Heavy-Duty Boots a strong option. Rocky Helmet: Rocky Helmet makes it easier for Dragonite to defeat Pokemon such as opposing Dragonite, Urshifu-R, and Gouging Fire (while Dragonite is Terastallized), and its residual damage can be used to execute a win condition. Covert Cloak: With Covert Cloak, this Dragonite becomes a very effective check to Garganacl, in addition to no longer being vulnerable to flinches from Chien-Pao's Icicle Crash while Terastallizing. Tera Types Tera Dependency - Medium: Dragonite's typing does have some fairly exploitable weaknesses that can harm its defensive capability, but an immunity to Toxic Spikes and useful resistances to common attack types such as Ground, Fire, and Fighting mean that Terastallization is not always the right play. Fairy: Due to Dragonite’'s low Speed compared to other Dragon-types, Tera Fairy is a great response against them. This also retains its advantage against Urshifu formes. Steel: Tera Steel massively improves Dragonite's matchups against Flutter Mane and Iron Bundle, at the cost of being even more vulnerable to Salt Cure and Urshifu formes. Water: Tera Water adds a resistance to Ice without losing Dragonite's innate Fire-type resistance, which is helpful against Chien-Pao and Urshifu-R. Poison: The niche Tera Poison gives Dragonite a way to remove its common weaknesses without being vulnerable to Toxic Spikes, while still resisting Fighting unlike Tera Steel.

With Tera Normal, Dragonite can do its best impression of Arceus, with a powerful Extreme Speed that makes Dragonite a great revenge killer, and even a sweeper if using Dragon Dance! Earthquake: Earthquake offers the best coverage against the widest variety of Normal-type resistances, with Archaludon, Glimmora, and Scizor being big targets. Encore: Encore lets Dragonite disrupt passive Pokemon and gives it incredible switch-in opportunities, making it a worthy move to consider. It can give free setup when paired with Dragon Dance, or it can turn Dragonite into a long-term defensive disruptor when paired with Roost. Tera Dependency - High: This set benefits immensely from the ability to Terastallize to both boost Extreme Speed's power while also removing Dragon type weaknesses. However, care should be taken on the timing of Terastallization depending on the matchup, as Dragonite more effectively checks several prominent threats, such as Urshifu-R and Ogerpon-H, with its base typing. Other Options Dragon Tail: Dragon Tail is a unique alternative to Encore, allowing Dragonite to phaze out fast setup attackers that are risky to switch into or otherwise catch with Encore, such as Calyrex-S. Items Rocky Helmet: Rocky Helmet lets Dragonite play more passively against physical threats, which is especially relevant before it Terastallizes. In particular, Urshifu-R without Punching Gloves takes a lot of damage from using Surging Strikes. Silk Scarf: Silk Scarf gives a small but significant boost to Extreme Speed's cleaning power. When used with Tera Normal, Dragonite can 2HKO offensive Miraidon! Leftovers: The residual recovery of Leftovers makes it easier to maintain Multiscale when using Roost. Heavy-Duty Boots: Stealth Rock is commonly set up specifically to break Dragonite's Multiscale, so Heavy-Duty Boots are a good way to always preserve Dragonite's ability to set up and revenge kill. Alternate EV Spread 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe with Impish Going fully defensive means Dragonite won't sweep nearly as easily, but Dragonite is still capable of being an effective defensive Pokemon even after Terastallization.

Dragonite is a great user of Scale Shot, utilizing its bulk and Multiscale to set up easily. Dragon Dance: A single Dragon Dance makes Scale Shot much more consistent at OHKOing Focus Sash Chien-Pao while also enabling five-hit Scale Shot to OHKO offensive Urshifu. Iron Head: Iron Head punishes Fairy-types and Tera Fairy users that try to block Scale Shot. Earthquake: Earthquake provides great all-around coverage while reliably hitting common Steel-types. Extreme Speed: Extreme Speed is useful for revenge killing faster foes and helps Dragonite outrun other priority users trying to exploit Scale Shot's Defense drops. Adamant versus Jolly: Jolly allows Dragonite to outspeed Chien-Pao, Flutter Mane, Koraidon, and Miraidon after a single Dragon Dance. However, many of these targets employ means of raising their Speed, so it is usually more worth it to maximize damage with Adamant and try to hit +2 Speed instead. Other Options Low Kick: Low Kick gives Dragonite the most damage output against Ursaluna-B, which is otherwise strong at stopping Dragonite's momentum. Encore: Encore with Dragon Dance makes it easier to set up on passive foes, but the sacrifice in coverage can make it difficult to fit. Tera Types Tera Dependency - Medium: Dragonite's bulk and Multiscale still go a long way in helping it set up, but Terastallization can extend its reach and make it harder to revenge kill. Steel: Tera Steel is a powerful response to Fairy-types like Flutter Mane, resisting Moonblast and boosting Iron Head. The resistance to Normal-type moves is also strong, helping cushion Ursaluna-B and opposing Extreme Speed Dragonite. Normal: Tera Normal remains a strong option for boosting Extreme Speed and shedding Dragonite's Dragon-type weaknesses. It also shuts down Astral Barrage from Calyrex-S.

Aqua Jet: It may seem redundant with Extreme Speed, but Aqua Jet is a key move for picking off weakened Ghost-types, such as Flutter Mane, and surprising Focus Sash Pokemon that might use Tera Ghost to avoid being sniped by Extreme Speed, such as Iron Bundle. This can also work against Chien-Pao, but Icicle Crash's flinch chance makes this rather risky. Earthquake versus Low Kick: Earthquake is the preferred coverage move for dealing big damage against Archaludon and Gholdengo, common responses to a Dragonite locked into Tera Blast. Low Kick trades smacking Gholdengo for revenge killing opposing Tera Normal Dragonite and dealing massive damage to Ting-Lu. Adamant versus Jolly: Adamant is the best nature for needing less chip damage to revenge kill weakened targets with priority attacks, but Jolly can make sense if outspeeding foes like Modest Gholdengo, Adamant Gouging Fire, and the rare Jolly Breloom is appealing. Tera Dependency - Almost Required: This set is highly reliant on using Tera Blast as a luring tool, so Terastallization should be a top priority for Dragonite. Items Sharp Beak: Sharp Beak gives Dragonite the most offensive presence with the fewest drawbacks, giving Flying-type Tera Blast just enough of a boost to usually 2HKO Ursaluna-B, or 3HKO defensive variants. Assault Vest: Assault Vest vastly improves Dragonite's matchup against Iron Bundle and Flutter Mane, especially if Multiscale's protection has been lost. Heavy-Duty Boots: Heavy-Duty Boots means Stealth Rock will no longer remove this set's ability to trade blows with powerful threats.

Dragonite's good bulk gives it plenty of chances to set up Dragon Dance, while still providing a solid defensive backbone. Earthquake: Earthquake is a reliable move for covering Steel-types, and Fire-types like Gouging Fire if using Iron Head and Tera Steel. Breaking Swipe: While weak, Breaking Swipe's Attack drop makes it even easier for Dragonite to set up, making it preferred over Dragon Claw. Encore: Encore makes setting up on slower defensive foes such as Corviknight fairly easy, though the lack of coverage makes Terastallizing far more important. Thunder Punch versus Electric Tera Blast: If using Tera Electric, Thunder Punch is a low-power but reliable STAB option. However, while Tera Blast almost certainly requires Dragonite to Terastallize, it does avoid Rocky Helmet chip damage and is a tad more powerful. Other Options Ice Spinner: Ice Spinner deals massive damage to Landorus-T and other Flying-types, making it a reasonable coverage option to consider if using a Tera type that can deal with Steel-types, like Water or Electric. Items Rocky Helmet: Rocky Helmet lets Dragonite play more passively thanks to the chip damage, and can be paired with Encore to severely punish slower physical attackers like Scizor. Clear Amulet: Clear Amulet stops common Attack debuffers such as Charm Flutter Mane and Intimidate Landorus-T from ruining Dragonite's offenses, making it much harder to cycle around. As a bonus, it also stops Rock Tomb Speed drops from common foes like Ogerpon-H. Heavy-Duty Boots: Preserving Multiscale even when Stealth Rock is set up can help Dragonite survive attacks in emergencies. Leftovers: Leftovers's passive healing gives Dragonite a better matchup against passive foes it can Encore. Covert Cloak: With Covert Cloak and Encore, Dragonite becomes a very solid check to Garganacl, as well as no longer fearing Breaking Swipe or flinches. Weakness Policy: Since Multiscale makes Dragonite very difficult to OHKO, Weakness Policy is a viable option to turn the tables on foes targeting Dragonite's weaknesses. EV Spreads 252 HP / 188 Defense / 76 Spe with Impish: This EV spread outspeeds up to Jolly Urshifu after one Dragon Dance, and Iron Bundle after two Dragon Dances. 252 HP / 52 Def / 204 Spe with Jolly: This is the minimum Speed needed to outspeed Timid Iron Bundle after a boost, and it also outspeeds Flutter Mane and Chien-Pao. 252 HP / 140 Defense / 112 Speed with Impish: This spread outspeeds Adamant Roaring Moon, Jolly Garchomp, and Timid Chi-Yu after Dragon Dance, all of which are threats that can easily revenge kill Dragonite once Multiscale is broken. Tera Types Tera Dependency - High / Almost Required: This Dragonite lacks a powerful STAB attack without Terastallization, making it highly recommended. If using Tera Flying with Tera Blast as the only attack, this set will need Terastallization to function. Steel: Tera Steel covers Dragonite's former weaknesses very well, and can still work somewhat well even if not Terastallized thanks to Iron Head, though note it makes this Dragonite much more vulnerable to Urshifu and Ogerpon-H. Flying: With Tera Blast, Tera Flying gives Dragonite a solid mono-attacking option and defensive typing in one, at the cost of almost always needing to Terastallize to function. Electric: Though this requires extra coverage to be viable, Tera Electric shields Dragonite from paralysis, which can be combined with Clear Amulet to ruin more supportive Flutter Mane sets! Being only weak to Ground-type attacks also makes it a solid defensive Tera Type for Dragonite. Fairy: Tera Fairy gives Dragonite an excellent mono-attacking Tera Blast that gives it an advantage over other Dragon-types. Water: Tera Water gifts Dragonite a resistance to Chien-Pao's Icicle Crash without being weak to Sacred Sword, plus it pairs well with Waterfall.

While giving up Extreme Speed and Scale Shot may seem unusual, it allows Dragonite to use both Multiscale and the unpredictability of Terastallization to become an extremely dangerous bulky sweeper that teams often have the wrong response to! Roost: Despite this set's more offensive approach, Roost is still highly recommended for taking full advantage of Multiscale. Iron Head: Iron Head is a good choice if using Tera Steel, but even outside of that, it offers much more damage against Flutter Mane and common Tera Fairy foes like Raging Bolt and Toxapex than Earthquake. Outrage: Outrage has tremendous power compared to any other attack from Dragonite, but Flutter Mane flipping it into a chance to revenge kill means it's best to lock-in late-game when the sweeping shot is clear. Ice Spinner: Ice Spinner works best with Clear Amulet, making sure Landorus-T and Dragonite are easy to break through before they Terastallize. Adamant versus Jolly: Adamant is usually preferred for the extra damage output, and the given EV spread still outspeeds Adamant Chien-Pao after a Dragon Dance. Jolly is required for outspeeding Timid Flutter Mane and Iron Bundle though. Other Options Fire Punch: Fire Punch is handy for roasting Scizor and dealing good damage to Corviknight, but it can't replace Earthquake, since hitting Archaludon hard is extremely important. Thunder Punch: If using Tera Electric, Thunder Punch is a less risky alternative to Tera Blast in exchange for getting hit by Rocky Helmet. It's best used with Ice Spinner over Earthquake. Low Kick: Low Kick is an easy way to OHKO Chien-Pao compared to Earthquake, but Flutter Mane laughing at it means Iron Head becomes required coverage, and it does less damage to Archaludon than Earthquake. Items Clear Amulet: Clear Amulet protects Dragonite from Pokemon that can ruin its sweep with Attack debuffs, such as Landorus-T and Charm Flutter Mane, as well as Breaking Swipe users like Gouging Fire and opposing Dragonite. Lum Berry: Lum Berry is an effective way around common status spreaders like Flutter Mane, Archaludon, and Dragapult. Heavy-Duty Boots: Heavy-Duty Boots ensures that Stealth Rock won't break Multiscale. Rocky Helmet: If using Roost, Rocky Helmet is a good way of punishing Urshifu-R's Surging Strikes if it lacks Punching Glove or if switching into Aqua Jet. Tera Types Tera Dependency - High / Medium: If making use of Tera Blast for Tera types like Flying, Dragonite will usually want to Terastallize as much as possible. Without Tera Blast, it becomes less necessary, but it's still often worth doing due to it making Dragonite a nightmare to OHKO! Flying: Tera Blast Flying offers incredible power with no drawbacks outside of Terastallizing, making it a great choice for sweeping! Steel: Tera Steel is a more defensive approach to this set, covering Dragonite's common weaknesses to Fairy, Dragon, and Rock. Ground: When combined with Clear Amulet, Tera Ground gives Dragonite the tools to defeat common support Flutter Mane moves like Thunder Wave and Charm in addition to a powerful Earthquake. Electric: Tera Electric works great with Ice Spinner covering Landorus-T, giving Dragonite another way to soak up Thunder Wave and even Serperior's Glare! Fairy: Tera Fairy isn't as great defensively for Dragonite as Tera Steel, but the Dragon immunity is great for keeping Multiscale intact, and it makes Dragonite a good check against Urshifu-S.
