Giga Drain heals defensive Eldegoss, but it can instead use Grass Knot to be less passive versus common heavy Pokemon, such as Aggron, Gigalith, and Jellicent. Sleep Powder and Leech Seed are both fantastic options to annoy its non-Grass-type switch-ins. Stun Spore is a very niche option but can be very beneficial for slower wallbreakers, such as Perrserker and Arctovish. Charm is mainly used to annoy Doublade, but it can still help with other physical attackers. Heavy-Duty Boots is by far the best item choice for Eldegoss, as it tends to switch in a lot to sponge damage. Eject Button is a risky item choice but can give a free switch for a wallbreaker, and once that's done Eldegoss switches into Poltergeist. However, sometimes a free switch doesn't do anything meaningful, and Eject Button won't activate versus Knock Off. Because Eldegoss lacks the coverage to meaningfully deal with Grass-resistant Pokemon, such as Charizard and Ribombee, Pokemon like Wishiwashi and Gigalith are a big help to switch into them. Eldegoss in return checks some of their switch-ins like Sandaconda and Jellicent while keeping them status free; other Pokemon that appreciate Eldegoss's cleric support are Togedemaru, Silvally-Ghost, and Perrserker, as they all must avoid burns to function at their best.

One can opt to use a much more offensive build with Eldegoss, making it less passive and harder to switch in on. Leaf Storm is Eldegoss's strongest move, but one needs to be mindful of its low PP. Grass Knot can be used to avoid this but comes with the downside of its inconsistent Base Power. This Eldegoss variant can actually harm other Grass-types such as Ferroseed, Whimsicott, and even other Eldegoss with Pollen Puff. Synthesis is an option given this set's reduced bulk and ability to keep momentum better, but it's very team and matchup dependent, and Regenerator is usually enough to keep Eldegoss healthy. 36 Speed EVs are to outspeed the common defensive Jellicent. Heavy-Duty Boots keeps this offensive variant as healthy as possible, and it's especially useful versus Toxic Spikes. Pokemon such as Togedemaru, Archeops, and Charizard make for excellent teammates, as they can help lure in Water-, Ground-, and Rock-types such as Sandaconda, Gigalith, and Jellicent for Eldegoss. Eldegoss does well on Spikes-stacking teams, appreciate how they apply pressure with entry hazards, which helps gives it momentum to pivot in and spin. Doublade, Gigalith, Sandslash, and Eldegoss make an excellent base for one of these teams, as they help cover each other's weaknesses.
