Volt Switch and U-turn users like Eelektross and Silvally-Fairy make for incredible partners, as they appreciate Spikes weakening the opponent's team further. They also give Omastar more opportunities to come in and set entry hazards, while it weakens some of their mutual switch-ins like Cryogonal and Ferroseed. Primeape deters the usage of Defog thanks to Defiant and also appreciates the entry hazards Omastar sets, allowing it to weaken switch-ins like Jellicent and Mudsdale faster. Spinblockers make for good partners, as they can come in on Pokemon like Hitmonchan that force Omastar out to try to get rid of the entry hazards it sets. Oricorio-G is a prime example, as it can also use Taunt against Defoggers like Altaria. It also greatly appreciates Omastar setting entry hazards up, weakening its switch-ins like Lanturn and Regirock, and dealing with spinners it struggles against like Alolan Sandslash. Offensive Cryogonal appreciates Omastar's entry hazards, as they allow it to get past Regirock, Ferroseed, and Eelektross more quickly. In return, it pressures the Grass- and Water-types that threaten Omastar, like Victreebel and Lanturn, and can get rid of the opponent's entry hazards with Rapid Spin, keeping Omastar's Focus Sash intact.

Groundium Z allows Omastar to get past Water-types like Jellicent and Lanturn with a boosted Tectonic Rage, which is also its best option against Ferroseed. However, this leaves Omastar unable to get past Pokemon like Articuno. White Herb resets Omastar's Defense and Special Defense after using Shell Smash or after a Weak Armor boost, making it harder to revenge kill. Usage Tips Omastar can be brought in early- to mid-game via U-turn or Volt Switch on Pokemon like Skuntank and Regirock to punch holes in the opposing team or set up, making it easier for a teammate to clean late-game when its switch-ins, like Lanturn, are weakened. If Omastar is not running Endure, it should aim to set up when faster Pokemon like Choice Scarf Primeape and Dodrio have been KOed if it's needed to clean. However, if running Endure, it should wait until its switch-ins like Lanturn and Jellicent are in range of its attacks due its lack of appropriate coverage. Omastar should aim to set up against Pokemon it forces out like Skuntank, Regirock, and Mudsdale and Choice-locked threats like Stoutland, Primeape, and Dodrio. Omastar's respectable physical bulk allows it to switch into weaker, resisted physical attacks like Skuntank's Poison Jab and Alolan Sandslash's Icicle Crash to take advantage of Weak Armor, although doing so too often leaves Omastar in range of priority moves like Choice Band Absol's Sucker Punch and Gurdurr's Mach Punch. Team Options Wallbreakers like Stoutland, Absol, and Victreebel pressure common answers to Omastar like Gastrodon, Ferroseed, and Lanturn, with the former two Pursuit trapping them and the latter inviting in Flying-types like Dodrio and Oricorio-G for Omastar to take advantage of. Musharna also works, as it can force Pokemon out with Future Sight and support Omastar with Healing Wish, giving it more setup opportunities and allowing it to set up Shell Smash multiple times to wallbreak itself. Wallbreakers are especially important if Omastar is running Endure, as it struggles to break through Lanturn and Jellicent. In return, Omastar deals with physically bulky Pokemon like Regirock and Tangela that answer Stoutland and Absol. If not running Endure, Omastar appreciates Pokemon able to deal with revenge killers like Choice Scarf Primeape and Dodrio. Skuntank is a good option, as it can effectively KO them with Sucker Punch and Aftermath as well as Pursuit trap the aforementioned Jellicent and Cryogonal. In exchange, Omastar deals with Regirock and Mudsdale. Substitute Haunter and Swords Dance Silvally-Fairy take advantage of them if they're locked into a Fighting-type move and can make them wary about using it. Omastar greatly appreciates Spikes, as they put Pokemon like Lanturn and Roselia in range of moves like Earth Power and Ice Beam after it has used Shell Smash. They also chip its offensive answers like Kangaskhan and Choice Scarf Skuntank. Ferroseed is a solid partner, chipping Omastar's answers even further thanks to Iron Barbs. U-turn and Volt Switch users like Silvally-Fairy and Eelektross can bring Omastar in against defensive behemoths like Regirock and non-Toxic Audino they struggle against, giving Omastar more setup opportunities. Parting Shot and Memento support from the likes of Alolan Persian and Choice Scarf Skuntank is also appreciated, giving Omastar an easier time setting up. However, Alolan Persian and Omastar do compete for the Z-Crystal. Finally, other cleaners like Combusken and Calm Mind Oricorio-E can wear down shared checks like Jellicent and Articuno with Omastar, giving one or the other a considerably easier time cleaning. Combusken also pressures bulky Ice-types that threaten non-Waterium Z Omastar, like Crabominable, while Oricorio-E can pivot into Fighting- and Grass-types like Hitmonchan and Victreebel before Omastar has used Shell Smash. Surf is reliable and deals high damage, and its consistency is generally preferred to Hydro Pump's higher Base Power due to Omastar's immense power at +2 or during rain. However, Hydro Pump has a better chance at OHKOing foes such as Assault Vest Hariyama at +2 with a Life Orb. Ice Beam is required to hit Grass- and Dragon-types and prevent them from stopping Omastar's sweep; at +2 it can let Omastar break through even bulky tanks such as Vileplume and Sliggoo that could otherwise beat Omastar. Hidden Power Grass lets Omastar break through Gastrodon, Poliwrath, and Lanturn. Hidden Power Electric is an alternative that still maintains coverage on most Water-types, but additionally lets Omastar break through Mantine and Pelipper, while Earth Power allows Omastar to hit Lanturn harder after a boost. Set Details Maximum Speed investment and a Modest nature lets Omastar outspeed most unboosted Pokemon after a Shell Smash or during rain. The extra damage output of a Modest nature lets Omastar run an item to make setup easier instead of being forced to run Life Orb. However, a Timid nature and a Life Orb can be more useful for Omastar on rain teams, as they let it outspeed +1 Mesprit, +1 Vivillon, and +1 Timid Lilligant variants that run Hidden Power Rock or Fire, while Speed tying with other Timid Lilligant, without a Shell Smash boost. Furthermore, the power boost from Life Orb allows Omastar to clean reliably with Surf during rain without needing a Shell Smash boost in most circumstances. The remaining EVs are invested in Special Attack to boost Omastar's damage output as much as possible. Shuca Berry allows Omastar to set up on Pokemon that use Ground-type coverage, such as Kangaskhan and Tauros, as well as weaker Ground-types such as Steelix. White Herb allows Omastar to preserve its defenses after a Shell Smash, making it less susceptible to priority attackers such as Hitmonchan and Shiftry, as well as threats that still outspeed Omastar after a boost, such as Choice Scarf Scyther. Early-game, Omastar can pivot into resisted attacks and force foes out with the threat of Shell Smash and powerful special attacks, so that you can double switch Omastar into the appropriate teammate. If it runs Shuca Berry, Omastar can pivot into Rock Climb from Tauros or Fake Out from Kangaskhan and set up as they try and fail to KO Omastar with Earthquake. Meanwhile, when Omastar is used on rain teams, it should only enter battle on these teams after a teammate such as Liepard or Mesprit sets Rain Dance and pivots out, or if it can switch into a resisted physical move such as Scyther's Aerial Ace. Omastar will rarely need to use Shell Smash against offensive teams under rain and is usually better off just firing off a boosted Surf or a coverage move. However, Shell Smash can be used to break through very bulky threats such as Sliggoo or to bypass Sucker Punches with good prediction to potentially continue a sweep after rain expires. Team Options Memento can be used to give Omastar guaranteed setup opportunities late-game. Mismagius and Skuntank can provide reliable Memento support due to their good Speed stats, making Omastar less susceptible to revenge killers, especially in combination with White Herb. Omastar's main advantage over other Shell Smash users and rain sweepers, such as Barbaracle and Kabutops, respectively, is its enormous Special Attack stat, so make sure to pair it with physical attackers such as Tauros and Archeops that can break through specially defensive tanks such as Hariyama. On rain teams, a fast Rain Dance user such as Liepard or Electrode should be used so that rain can be set up in last-resort situations to allow Omastar to revenge kill certain foes, or to give Omastar a crucial sweeping opportunity late-game. A bulky Rain Dance user such as Mesprit should also be used to set weather reliably early-game and give Omastar more chances to wallbreak for teammates. Other rain sweepers such as Kabutops, Ludicolo, Mantine, and Poliwrath should be used to overwhelm the opponent's Water-type checks with their STAB attacks and different coverage options. Mesprit is a particularly good teammate, as it can also provide Stealth Rock support, resists Fighting-type attacks, and can use a slow U-turn to bring Omastar in safely or Healing Wish to give it a second chance at sweeping later in the match. This also applies to non-rain teams that use the standard defensive pivot.

It also punishes many entry hazard removers, such as Mantine and Pelipper, that might want to remove entry hazards later. Toxic Spikes cripples defensive threats such as Hariyama and Gourgeist-XL and provides teams with a countermeasure against bulky setup sweepers such as Mega Audino and Musharna. Scald has a good chance to burn the physical attackers that Omastar can deal with, such as Garbodor, Kangaskhan, and Steelix. Scald also lets Omastar potentially inflict status on Xatu if it tries to switch in. Protect is also an option to let Omastar scout for potential coverage moves or to ease prediction against Choice item users, such as Choice Specs Pyroar, while also providing Omastar with another turn of Leftovers recovery. On the other hand, Icy Wind lets Omastar hit Grass-types that attempt to switch in for decent damage, particularly frail ones such as Shiftry and Lilligant. It also slows down offensive Pokemon that try to stop Omastar from setting entry hazards, so that a slow teammate such as Magmortar can switch in and hit them back hard. Ice Beam is a more powerful alternative that deals more damage to Xatu in particular, and it can 2HKO Vileplume after Stealth Rock with 40 Special Attack EVs, but it doesn't provide the speed control for teammates that Icy Wind provides. Toxic lets Omastar cripple common switch-ins such as Gastrodon, Lanturn, and Mantine. Set Details Maximum defensive investment makes Omastar as physically bulky as possible, letting it check many physical attackers such as bulky Charizard, Kangaskhan, and Tauros while taking non-STAB Earthquakes with ease. Leftovers is usually the best item choice to compensate for Omastar's lack of reliable recovery, but a Shuca Berry or Chople Berry can be used to let Omastar tank a hit from the likes of Rhydon and Primeape to strike back with a decently powerful Scald. Shell Armor prevents Omastar from being KOed unexpectedly by a critical hit. Swift Swim is less useful, as Omastar is too slow to outspeed most offensive foes without any investment, even at +2 Speed. Weak Armor makes Omastar much worse at handling physical attackers and should be saved for a more offensive entry hazards set that can better capitalize on the increased Speed. Usage Tips This set should be used as a defensive pivot that can switch into physical attackers and force them out, either setting up entry hazards for its team or using its attacking moves to cripple physical attackers or potential anti-hazard Pokemon. If the opponent has a Grass-type Pokemon, early-game it's often best to set up a hazard and switch out to a teammate that can deal with them better, such as Assault Vest Magmortar. After you've set up all the entry hazards you want, Omastar should use Icy Wind as they switch in to inflict chip damage and let a teammate outspeed them after switching in, or just spam Scald if the opponent lacks a Grass-type threat or sponge such as Sliggoo. Against teams where the opponent has many Pokemon weak to Rock-type attacks, Omastar should set Stealth Rock before doing anything else, especially if they have a 4x-weak member such as Charizard or Scyther. Otherwise, Spikes should generally be Omastar's first priority, unless the opponent has many non-grounded Pokemon such as Mesprit and Mismagius. One layer of Toxic Spikes is usually sufficient for crippling offensive teams, so unless the opponent has a bulky setup sweeper such as Musharna that you want to stop at all costs, Omastar shouldn't bother setting a second layer over Stealth Rock or hitting something with Scald. Toxic Spikes also shouldn't be used while the opponent has a grounded Poison-type, unless you want to force them to bring it in so that a teammate such as Mesprit or Musharna can capitalize on it. Team Options Spinblockers are highly appreciated for preventing Omastar's entry hazards from being removed by Rapid Spin. Mismagius and Rotom are both great choices for balanced teams, with the former being able to take special attacks more easily and the latter being able to pivot into Electric-types that threaten Omastar and pivot back out with Volt Switch. Cleaners and other offensive Pokemon appreciate having multiple hazard layers up to wear down foes into KO range. Swellow's Boomburst in particular becomes a lot more dangerous when switch-ins take damage from both Stealth Rock and Spikes, while wallbreakers such as Magmortar and Abomasnow can secure KOs more easily with defensive checks being weakened by the entry hazards. Vileplume is a particularly good partner, as it can switch into Grass-types that force Omastar out and threaten them with a strong Sludge Bomb. Meanwhile, Omastar appreciates Toxic Spikes being removed from its own side of the field and can switch into Flying-type attacks that threaten Vileplume. Faster Grass-types such as Lilligant and Shiftry are also useful for forcing opposing Water-types out, which can otherwise usually break past Omastar's mediocre special bulk. Pokemon that discourage Defog can also be useful, albeit only indirectly. Malamar gains increased Evasion if Defog is used on it, making it easier to set up and sweep; Primeape and Pawniard gain an Attack boost from switching into the move, but they must watch out for Scalds from the likes of Pelipper and Mantine. If Icy Wind is being used, powerful offensive threats that can take advantage of slowed Pokemon, such as Charizard and Kangaskhan, also make good teammates, both of which also appreciate Toxic Spikes for stalling out foes with Roost or Fake Out.

Hydro Pump is an alternative that has much more power and can OHKO many offensive Pokemon that Omastar outspeeds after a Weak Armor boost, such as Vivillon, Haunter, and bulky Charizard. Ice Beam is Omastar's most powerful and consistent coverage option, letting it KO Grass-types that try to stop it after it gets a Weak Armor boost or as they switch in. Icy Wind is less powerful but lets Omastar hit targets such as Tauros and Liepard and outspeed them after the combination of Omastar's Speed boost and their Speed drop. It also provides team support for slower wallbreakers and more opportunities for Omastar to set entry hazards. Hidden Power Electric is an option that targets opposing Water-types, especially hazard removers such as Mantine, Pelipper, and Prinplup. Toxic Spikes cripples defensive threats such as Hariyama and Gourgeist-XL but is generally ill-suited to a suicide lead, as any team with a grounded Poison-type can quickly remove them early-game. However, it is useful for supporting certain threats, such as Kangaskhan and Hex users. Set Details Maximum Speed investment with a Timid nature is used so that Omastar can outspeed foes such as Mismagius and Pyroar after a Speed boost from Weak Armor, letting it either set an extra layer of entry hazards before being hit by Taunt or KOed or hit back with a powerful attack of its own. The rest of the EVs are placed in Special Attack to give Omastar's attacks more power, letting it OHKO foes such as Pyroar with Scald, Vivillon with Ice Beam, or Liepard with Hydro Pump. Focus Sash is the best item choice, as it usually guarantees that Omastar can set an extra Spikes layer if it leads or has sufficient Rapid Spin support, and it lets Omastar tank hits from Grass-types if necessary. Weak Armor is used so that Omastar can outspeed physical attackers such as Scyther and Kangaskhan after tanking a hit from them, setting up an extra layer of entry hazards before being KOed or getting a surprise KO as a result. Usage Tips This set should be used as a lead to preserve Omastar's Focus Sash, usually letting it set up at least two layers of entry hazards so that offensive sweepers and cleaners can do their jobs more easily later on. It's generally unwise to run all three entry hazards together on this set, as Omastar will rarely be able to stay in long enough to set them all, and it becomes too passive to deal with anti-hazard Pokemon, such as Mantine or Pelipper, or other threats such as Vileplume. If the opponent packs a reliable Defog user such as Prinplup, it is rarely worth Omastar's time to set up entry hazards if they can be easily removed later, so Omastar probably shouldn't lead in these circumstances and if Omastar is brought in it may be worthwhile to double switch to a teammate that can quickly deal with the Defog user. Weak Armor should be used either from the lead position so that Omastar can set more entry hazards against leads such as Scyther, or so that Omastar can grab a Speed boost by switching into a weak physical attack such as U-turn or even Rapid Spin, potentially forcing out a normally-faster threat or preventing one from coming in after U-turn. Omastar can stay in against Grass-types if the opponent has no hazard removal and you only want two layers of entry hazards, but only do this if you are certain you won't need more entry hazards or Omastar's type resistances later. Team Options This set is best paired with offensive Pokemon that require consistent entry hazard support to secure KOs. Choice Specs Swellow and Silk Scarf Kangaskhan highly appreciate entry hazards chipping away responses until they fall into KO range, with Toxic Spikes working particularly well with Kangaskhan's Fake Out. Meanwhile, offensive Grass- and Electric-types such as Lilligant and Manectric also appreciate the residual damage on checks and can force out Defog users such as Prinplup that try to remove Omastar's entry hazards. Offensive spinblockers are mandatory teammates to prevent these entry hazards being removed after Omastar has potentially sacrificed itself to lay them, as this set doesn't have the bulk to switch into battle repeatedly. Mismagius, Haunter, and Rotom are all good options that can also capitalize on Toxic Spikes with powerful Hexes, with Mismagius being able to block Defog with Taunt and Rotom having a particularly good matchup against the common Water-type Defog users. Offensive pivots such as Choice Band Scyther and Choice Scarf Rotom can force foes to switch in and out continually to deal with them, racking up damage from the entry hazards that Omastar sets. Defiant teammates such as Malamar and Primeape can also deter Defog users from removing Omastar's entry hazards by gaining increased evasiveness and Attack from the move, respectively. If Omastar lacks Toxic Spikes, Poison-types such as Garbodor, Weezing, and Roselia can provide them to complete the full set of entry hazards and make threats such as Kangaskhan and Fake Out Hariyama even more dangerous.

This set takes advantage of Omastar's great base 125 Defense and key resistances to Fire-, Normal-, and Flying-type moves to check dangerous threats and supply entry hazards for its team. Spikes is the main entry hazard on this set, as it sets Omastar apart from other physical walls, such as Rhydon and Steelix. Stealth Rock comes next as it makes it difficult for many of the threats Omastar checks to outlast it, since many are weak to Stealth Rock. Scald is Omastar's STAB move with the ever-infuriating 30% chance to burn the opponent. Ice Beam rounds off the set by giving Omastar a way to try and fend off Grass-types that try to come in on it. The EV spread maximizes Omastar's physical bulk in order to check the likes of Entei and Swellow more reliably. Although none of Omastar's abilities are particularly useful on this set, Shell Armor is the best one to use if only to take untimely critical hits out of the equation. Omastar does have access to Toxic Spikes, but the dual Spiker role is done better by Qwilfish thanks to its better set of resistances and Intimidate. This Omastar struggles to fend off most sleep inducers, especially Amoonguss, so having a way to combat sleep is highly recommended. Emboar and Choice Band Druddigon are great Sleep Talk users that handle most sleep inducers, including Lilligant, with ease. Bouffalant has Sap Sipper to benefit from Spore and Sleep Powder and its all around bulk lets it handle most sleep inducers as well. Phazers and Volt Switch and U-turn users are recommended to take advantage of the Spikes support Omastar provides. Steelix and specially defensive Druddigon are good phazers. Rotom-C, Braviary, and Manectric can all use Volt Switch or U-turn to force their checks and counters to take repeated Spikes damage. Spiritomb is a good teammate to protect Omastar's entry hazards as it can easily handle Cryogonal and Kabutops reliably, although a Spiritomb with Foul Play will be better equipped on average to handle Kabutops.

This is the set that made Omastar the feared sweeping threat it is today. With just a single turn, Omastar is capable of boosting its Speed and Special Attack to very threatening levels, and it's all thanks to Shell Smash. After using this, Omastar can make use of its solid three move coverage to ravage the opposing team. Omastar's STAB move comes down to the age old argument of power vs. accuracy. Since this Omastar is used more as a sweeper, Surf is preferred for the reliability it brings and still has sufficient power in most situations. Hydro Pump is an option in order to muscle past Pokemon like Cryogonal and Uxie, but an untimely miss can mark the premature end of a sweep. Ice Beam is useful to hit the many Grass-types in RU, including Rotom-C, Sceptile, and Amoonguss. Hidden Power Grass rounds off Omastar's coverage and allows it to deal with opposing Water-types such as Slowking, Lanturn, and Alomomola. Timid is the preferred nature to ensure Omastar can outspeed Rotom-C, the most common Choice Scarf user in the tier, after a Shell Smash boost. Weak Armor is the recommended ability as it grants Omastar an extra Speed boost if it manages to come in on a physical attack, such as Entei's Flare Blitz. The item choice is a bit difficult as there are plenty of options. However, Lum Berry and Life Orb are generally the best choices. Lum Berry grants more leniency to Omastar, allowing it to set up on more defensive threats that might use status to cripple Omastar. Life Orb is also a decent option, as it lets Omastar sweep sooner since special walls won't need to be weakened as much with the boost in power. Earth Power can be used for a stronger hit on Lanturn, but it has very little use outside of this. Substitute is an option to get around Sucker Punch users such as Absol and Spiritomb, but this restricts Omastar's coverage. White Herb is an alternative item choice to negate the defense drops from using Shell Smash, but it's actually counter-productive with the defense drop incurred from Weak Armor. Lastly, Omastar can use Swift Swim should it be used on a rain team. However, you should only use Swift Swim if you plan on using a rain team, as you won't run into many opposing rain teams in RU. Choice Scarf Rotom and Choice Scarf Manectric are perhaps the best answers to this set thanks to their ability to outspeed and OHKO Omastar at +2, so having a check or counter for them is highly recommended to remove them from play. Roselia and Druddigon are good responses to these threats as well as many other Grass- and Electric-types that could become problematic. Roselia's access to Spikes and its Fire-type weakness make it a very appealing option as it attracts the likes of Emboar and Entei like a magnet. Special attacker Manectric can absorb Volt Switches and Thunderbolts from any Electric-type attempting to revenge kill Omastar and use the Lightningrod boost it gains to facilitate its own sweep. Pursuit support can be helpful to weaken or outright KO Slowking. Escavalier has great synergy with Omastar as it can check any Grass-type without Hidden Power Fire and its 4x Fire weakness can lure out Fire-type moves for Omastar to set up on. Specially defensive Gallade can tank any hit other than Life Orb Hydro Pump and KO back with Drain Punch, so Sigilyph and Braviary are good choices to deal with it. Hitmonlee is also a very serious threat as it can revenge kill Omastar with a Fighting Gem-boosted Mach Punch and attempt to counter-sweep with its Unburden-boosted Speed. Mesprit can not only check Hitmonlee, but it can also easily handle most other Fighting-types, including specially defensive Gallade and the rarer Choice Scarf Primeape.

Instead of using a free turn to set up Shell Smash and sweep the opposing team, this Omastar uses free turns to litter the other side of the field with entry hazards. Omastar might lack the Speed of other fast Spikers such as Smeargle and Scolipede, but a combination of Weak Armor and Icy Wind can mitigate this. Spikes is the main entry hazard on this set due to its lesser distribution and Omastar's ability to get two layers up almost every time. Scald generally gets the nod for Omastar's STAB move as the burn chance can deter physical attackers from attempting to set up on it. Hydro Pump is an option for the much greater power, but Omastar's primary concern should be to get entry hazards up. Icy Wind is nice to slow down faster Pokemon switching in such as Manectric, Sceptile, and Galvantula. Ice Beam is a solid alternative to get the harder hit on Pokemon such as Druddigon and Amoonguss, which are already slower than Omastar. The last move gives Omastar added utility. Stealth Rock allows Omastar to support its team even more and free up a teamslot to cover other things. However, Shell Smash is an option if you don't need Omastar to use Stealth Rock. Although it looks odd, Shell Smash allows Omastar to weaken the opposing team and have more flexibility in how it's played outside of the lead position. Note that you should always use Ice Beam if you opt for Shell Smash as you will now have a way of boosting Omastar's Speed reliably. This set simply aims to set up as many entry hazards as possible, so maximum investment in Special Attack and Speed is used to aid this. Focus Sash ensures that Omastar can survive an attack and possibly get an extra layer of hazards up before it goes down. Weak Armor is the preferred ability as it boosts Omastar's Speed if it gets hit by a physical move. This, when used in conjunction with Icy Wind, allows Omastar to handle most offensive leads such as Scolipede. Earth Power is an option to hit the likes of Qwilfish, Kabutops, and Lanturn hard. Toxic Spikes can provide extra entry hazard support, but Qwilfish is usually better for the dual Spiking role. Surf is a middle ground between Scald and Hydro Pump, but the burn chance of Scald or the raw power of Hydro Pump is generally preferred. Omastar fares well against most leads, but there is one that it is absolutely powerless against: Smeargle. Due to Spore, Smeargle can immediately put Omastar to sleep and begin littering Omastar's side of the field with entry hazards. For this reason, Sleep Talk users such as Emboar and Entei make for very solid options. Magmortar and Primeape have Vital Spirit to avoid sleep and can easily take out Smeargle. Substitute users such as Gallade and Sceptile can use Substitute to block Spore and do serious damage to the opposing team. However, these Pokemon need to be careful of Whirlwind. Pokemon with Sap Sipper, such as Bouffalant and Sawsbuck, are also good choices to deal with Smeargle. Since this set will generally set up hazards and go down early in the match, a spinblocker is useful to protect the entry hazards Omastar lays down. Spiritomb matches up extremely well with Cryogonal and a Foul Play Spiritomb can cause Kabutops some major issues as well. Bulky Rotom is a more reliable answer to Kabutops. Pokemon that can take advantage of the Spikes support Omastar gives are good teammates. Rotom-C is able to come in on Ground-, Electric-, and Grass-type moves aimed at Omastar and can force multiple switches with its STAB Volt Switch. Choice Band Druddigon is a great Sleep Talk user and it will find it much easier to break through its checks with Spikes support. The deal is made all the better since Druddigon can come in on Electric- and Grass-type attacks aimed at Omastar to begin unleashing its powerful attacks. Moltres and Magmortar can break through Lanturn much more quickly with Spikes support. Finally, Stealth Rock users are solid options should Omastar opt to use Shell Smash. Mesprit is immune to Ground-type moves and resists Fighting-type moves while also having U-turn to bring Omastar in safely. Lastly, Steelix can use Roar to rack up residual damage thanks to Omastar's Spikes.

Omastar is blessed as the only UU Pokemon with access to both Stealth Rock and Spikes; coupled with its decent bulk and high Special Attack, this makes Omastar an excellent lead for any UU team in need of entry hazards. This Omastar is built to function as a suicide lead, setting up as many entry hazards as possible before fainting. If an opportunity arises where Omastar can KO the opponent's Pokemon, it should do so; having an immediate advantage against the opposing team while still having a chance to set up entry hazards can be invaluable. Omastar matches up well against almost any common lead, including Uxie and Mesprit without Grass Knot, Registeel, Moltres, Kabutops, Cloyster, other Omastar, and even Rain Dance Electrode, which Omastar can simply outspeed and OHKO with Surf in the rain. With so many favorable match-ups and a Focus Sash, Omastar should be guaranteed either a kill or two layers of entry hazards. Stealth Rock and Spikes are both key to this set. Putting both moves on Omastar can not only free up an extra slot on your team, but it also gives Omastar a chance to set up multiple layers of hazards if it finds itself in a favorable lead matchup. Omastar's typing, decent Speed, and high defensive stats allow it to set up easily on any Pokemon that is not carrying a Grass-type attack, such as Registeel or Spiritomb (although stronger versions of Shadow Ball Spiritomb can deal serious amounts of damage to Omastar). Surf is a reliable STAB attack that can OHKO Moltres leads and deal significant damage to almost any other lead; even Qwilfish leads take over 40% from Omastar's Surf. The last attack is based on preference, and depends on what Pokemon you would rather have Omastar be able to defeat. Hidden Power Grass can OHKO opposing Omastar that do not run Focus Sash or Rindo Berry, and also ensures that Omastar can outspeed and 2HKO Cloyster with ease. Earth Power allows Omastar to easily handle Toxicroak leads, as well as guaranteeing the 2HKO on Qwilfish. It may seem silly to maximize Speed on such a slow Pokemon, but the extra Speed will often prove invaluable. Not only does it give Omastar a good chance to outspeed and kill any opposing Omastar leads, but it also allows Omastar to outpace leads such as Cloyster or Kabutops if they do not invest in Speed. Even Uxie, a Pokemon with base 95 Speed, will be outsped by Omastar if it runs no Speed EVs. However, if running so much Speed doesn't sound alluring, alternative EV spreads that feature max HP and some Defense EVs can be used very effectively, especially if combined with Rindo Berry. A bulkier spread allows Omastar to take even special hits extremely well, easily tanking attacks such as Spiritomb's assaults or weaker Grass Knots; many of these attacks now become 3HKOs or even 4HKOs. A team looking to use Omastar should highly consider these spreads, as Omastar can easily switch in later to wall attacks as well as to set up more entry hazards. With Omastar carrying both Stealth Rock and Spikes, a Ghost-type to block Rapid Spin is almost mandatory, especially if Omastar plans on going down early. In fact, it may even be wise to use two Ghost-types to prevent Foresight-using Rapid Spinners from doing their job. Offensively, special sweepers such as Moltres have a much easier time with Chansey and Milotic after they've been damaged by Stealth Rock and Spikes. Choice Banders, such as Tauros, also benefit from Pokemon being weakened upon switching in; repeated hits and entry hazard damage will quickly take a toll on any potential counters. Defensively, a team built around using Roar and Whirlwind to rack up entry hazard damage can find many advantages to using this Omastar lead. Although Omastar has a favorable match-up versus most leads, it can be stopped by Taunt and has problems with any Grass-type attack. Mismagius is perhaps the most dangerous threat Omastar can face, as it has access to Taunt, a high Special Defense stat, and a super effective Thunderbolt. Alakazam is another lead that severely troubles Omastar, given its higher Speed and ability to 2HKO the snail with Psychic. Despite running the risk of being 2HKOed, Ambipom and Qwilfish can use Taunt in order to prevent Omastar from setting up.

Although Omastar's typing isn't very auspicious for a defensive Pokemon, one would be foolish to overlook its gargantuan base 125 Defense stat that, when paired with its access to a wide array of support moves, turns Omastar into an amazing asset for defensive teams. The main idea of this set is to switch into something that doesn't threaten Omastar too much, such as physically-based Flying-, Normal-, or Fire-types, then proceed to set up either Spikes or Stealth Rock as the opponent switches out. If they decide to stay in, Omastar can make use of its impressive Special Attack and STAB Surf to crush most of these threats. The last moveslot is entirely dependent on personal preference. Ice Beam is the most desirable option, as it deters Grass-types from switching in too readily and deals massive damage to Flying-types, especially Altaria. However, if one doesn't find the aforementioned Pokemon too troublesome, Earth Power is an interesting option that enables Omastar to hit Toxicroak, Qwilfish, and opposing Omastar harder; it especially comes in handy if this set is being run in the lead position, where the latter two are commonly seen. Alternatively, Rest is a viable option that rectifies Omastar's lack of a recovery move, but should only be used with Heal Bell support. Because Omastar's ability to set up all kinds of entry hazards is what makes this set so dangerous, pairing it with a Ghost-type in order to block Rapid Spin is mandatory. Given the defensive nature of this set, RestTalk Rotom is the most advisable choice for the role, as it can easily switch into most Fighting- and Ground-types that threaten Omastar and scare them away with Will-O-Wisp. Bulky Mismagius is another good option, as, despite not having very high defenses, it has access to Taunt, which shuts down Foresight users such as Blastoise and Hitmontop. Chansey is another great partner, as it can provide Omastar with Wish support, heal any harmful status inflicted on its teammates with Aromatherapy, and take on the majority of the special attackers in the tier. Venusaur possesses resistances to Grass-, Electric-, and Fighting-type attacks, has access to Roar, and is capable of luring Flying- and Fire-types out, thus giving Omastar many free opportunities to switch in.

Due to bearing the highest Special Attack of all Water-types in UU and an underwhelming 55 base Speed, Omastar makes a prime candidate for a Rain Dance sweeper. Surf is Omastar's main source of damage, and OHKOes most Pokemon that don't resist it. If more power is desired, Hydro Pump is a good alternative that puts more pressure on bulky special walls such as Clefable and Registeel, even 2HKOing Chansey with Stealth Rock and one layer of Spikes down. Ice Beam allows Omastar to hit Grass-types and Altaria for super effective damage, while Hidden Power Grass is used mainly for Water-types. Because these three moves provide Omastar with amazing coverage (only resisted by Shedinja), Omastar can afford to run a support move in the fourth slot. Rain Dance is the preferred option, as it allows Omastar to act as a self-sustaining sweeper on all sorts of teams while supporting its teammates on dedicated rain teams. Earth Power, despite not achieving much when it comes to coverage, allows Omastar to OHKO Toxicroak, one of the most dangerous threats to rain teams, thus paving the way for one of its teammates, namely Kabutops or Qwilfish, to sweep unhindered. Omastar has a much easier time sweeping when bulky Water-types and Chansey are removed from play, which means having a reliable switch-in to these Pokemon is mandatory. Ludicolo immediately sticks out due to its secondary Grass typing, ability to run a physical set, good Special Defense, and access to Swift Swim; these factors combine to allow Ludicolo to get past a good portion of the aforementioned threats. Swords Dance Qwilfish, despite not being able to switch into any of those Pokemon for free, is a great bait for Milotic and Venusaur, and can use Explosion to remove a troublesome wall from the game. Registeel is another thorn in Omastar's side, as it can easily shrug off a hit and paralyze Omastar, rendering it useless. Because of this, Lanturn makes a nifty partner, soaking up Thunder Wave, thanks to Volt Absorb, and being able to abuse rain with its STAB Thunder while also reliably replenishing the rain with its respectable bulk. The most efficient kind of support one can provide Omastar with is pairing it with Pokemon that can set up Rain Dance prior to its entrance on the battlefield. This makes it so that Omastar doesn't have to take a hit when attempting to set up or abdicate the boost provided by Life Orb in order to use Damp Rock, which would cause Omastar to miss key OHKOs on Pokemon such as offensive Venusaur. Uxie is the most recommended partner, as it can set up Stealth Rock, counter Toxicroak and Technician Hitmontop, both of which are huge hindrances to many commonly used rain sweepers, and heal Omastar from status with Heal Bell. Mesprit is in the same boat, but trades bulk and access to Heal Bell for the ability to use Healing Wish, which can essentially give Omastar a second life. Because of its blistering Speed, Electrode makes an extremely reliable Rain Dance user in the lead position, thus helping Omastar establish offensive momentum early on in the battle.

Omastar can take a defensive route too, but is hampered by its terrible typing. As with Cloyster: it can badly damages other users of Rapid Spin and Spikes, but isn't any good as a physical wall--if anything, Omastar is even worse than Cloyster in this role. Thief is a cool move to steal Leftovers from Blissey, Suicune, Snorlax, or Milotic; this Omastar can pair with Tyranitar for more sandstorm damage. The other two moves should be used along with Leftovers. Protect can stall for additional Leftovers recovery and scout Choice Band users. This can significantly reduce prediction as, for the most part, they only have Earthquake and STAB Fighting moves with which to threaten Omastar. As Omastar will not be tanking any special attacks regardless of investment, it should focus on physical bulk to sponge attacks from the likes of Salamence. For example, it can survive +1 Salamence's Earthquake, then KO it with Ice Beam.

This sweeper set is Omastar's standard. Much like Kingdra, Omastar is a mediocre Pokemon that is reliant on the weather. Set up with Rain Dance, then fire off attacks: Ice Beam hits Dragon- and Grass-types while Hidden Power Electric takes down Gyarados; Swampert will fall in two or three hits anyway. Lum Berry cures status, mainly paralysis, which can ruin a sweep. With a Speed stat of 198 and a rain boost, Omastar outruns all standard Pokemon, including Jolteon and Aerodactyl.

This is a pretty basic set and takes advantage of Omastar's Rock typing and its big Defense stat. Bring this in on a Curse Pokemon and set up Reflect. Behind Reflect you can use Haze to nullify any stat-ups the opponent may have received. When you have a spare turn, attack with Surf (Omastar has an awesome Special Attack score, 328, on par with that of Raikou). When you have taken a lot of damage, Rest away your worries. This set is great against a lot of Curse users, but beware of those that have Earthquake.

Defense and Special Attack are Omastar's two best stats, and this set takes advantage of them. Hydro Pump will deal a load of damage to many Pokemon not resistant to it, and if they send in Exeggutor or Zapdos, Ice Beam will hit them hard. When low on health, Rest and Sleep Talk will continue the attacking fun. With Omastar's resistances, it'll get plenty of switch-in opportunities, especially in UU. Watch out for other Water-types.
