Decidueye should be brought in through pivoting moves and after fainted Pokemon most of the time, as even against the Pokemon it sets up on, it can risk being afflicted with Scald burns or Toxic poison, which greatly hinder or even ruin its chances to break through teams. When using Decidueye against stall, try to wear down the few Pokemon those teams carry that can potentially stop a Decidueye sweep like Moltres and Hydreigon. It is worth it to preserve Decidueye's health so it can find more opportunities to set up later in the game rather than blowing its chance early and being revenge killed. There are many Pokemon that can't touch Decidueye at all behind a Substitute, such as Blissey, Alomomola, Slowbro lacking Psyshock, Quagsire, Suicune, and non-Whirlwind Hippowdon. Use Substitute on these Pokemon to initiate a sweep. Against offensive teams, it is often wise to use Decidueye's Z-Move relatively early to take a huge hit out of a Pokemon that resists Decidueye's STAB moves and open paths for other Pokemon more geared to sweeping against faster teams to win; Choice Scarf Hydreigon is a great target for this strategy. Decidueye often won't get chances to use Swords Dance against these teams. Instead, rely on using Substitute to force trades and attacking with your STAB moves. Team Options Entry hazard support helps Decidueye break down defensive cores more easily. Amongst Spikes users, Klefki and Froslass in particular have great synergy with Decidueye, with Klefki checking Dark-types for it directly and Froslass being able to lure some like Hydreigon and Krookodile in and weaken them for Decidueye to KO them. Offensive Stealth Rock users such as Terrakion, Cobalion, and Nihilego are good choices to complement Decidueye, as they can wallbreak while laying down hazards. Decidueye also appreciates partners that can take advantage of Dark-types, which often come in to take its Ghost-type STAB moves or to attempt to revenge kill it. This can be done either defensively with Fairy-types like Togekiss and Mega Altaria or offensively with Justified users like Terrakion and Cobalion. VoltTurn users like Scizor, Rotom-H, and Mega Manectric are also heavily appreciated to safely get in Decidueye without having to hard switch. Additionally, entry hazard removal can be vital for Decidueye's ability to complete sweeps. Poison-types can be helpful to absorb Toxic Spikes, which is the most detrimental hazard for Decidueye, preventing it from performing its job. Examples include Tentacruel, which can remove other hazards; Nihilego, which can check most Flying-types; and Alolan Muk, which can use Pursuit on faster threats like Gengar, Chandelure, and Latias. Otherwise, Mega Blastoise, Starmie, and Mega Altaria all can be good partners both offensively and for their ability to Rapid Spin or Defog. Lastly, cleaners can take advantage of Decidueye's breaking power to burst through weakened teams. Mega Sharpedo is an excellent example of this, also setting up on some of Decidueye's revenge killers like Choice Scarf Hydreigon and Krookodile, as are Swords Dance Scizor and Bisharp.

Set Details Maximum Attack investment along with an Adamant nature allow Decidueye to serve as an efficient cleaner by allowing it to hit as hard as possible. Maximum Speed investment allows Decidueye to be as fast as possible, outspeeding Pokemon such as Mantine and Metagross. Spooky Plate boosts both of Decidueye's Ghost STAB attacks, which allows it to always OHKO Victini with a +2 boosted Shadow Sneak after Stealth Rock damage. Usage Tips Try to preserve Decidueye so it can set up and sweep effectively. The ideal time to try to set up Decidueye is late-game when its checks and counters have been weakened. This is especially important in the Psychic matchup, where Decidueye can check a huge threat to Grass teams in Victini after Stealth Rock damage with a Swords Dance boost. However, in matchups such as Dragon, Dark, and Normal, where it may have trouble sweeping, try to use Decidueye mid-game to weaken the opposing team as much as possible for its other offensive teammates to sweep. Decidueye can also utilize its Spirit Shackle in order to trap passive Pokemon such as Ferrothorn and set up safely using Swords Dance. Wear down offensive checks such as Mega Charizard Y into boosted Shadow Sneak's range before setting up. Avoid taking unnecessary damage before Decidueye is ready to come in and sweep, as taking unnecessary damage will hinder its ability to set up with its already limited bulk. For the same reason, Decidueye should be brought in after a teammate has fainted or through an aggressive switch. Try to lay down entry hazards such as Stealth Rock and Spikes from teammates such as Cradily and Ferrothorn, as they help chip down the opposing team for Decidueye's sweep. This is especially important in the Psychic matchup, as Stealth Rock chip damage is needed for Decidueye to knock Victini out with a boosted Shadow Sneak. Similarly, try to switch Decidueye in on a predicted Rapid Spin to keep said hazards on the field. Status conditions, namely burn and paralysis, will hinder Decidueye's ability to set up and sweep by cutting down its Attack and Speed. Therefore, it should avoid setting up on status users such as Will-O-Wisp Mew and Thunder Wave Slowbro, as well as unnecessarily switching in on Scald. Sinister Arrow Raid should be preserved for bulkier targets such as Toxapex, Celesteela, and Zapdos. Therefore, Decidueye should try to trap and isolate said Pokemon with Spirit Shackle in order to get a guaranteed hit on them. Decidueye should also be wary of Protect users such as Toxapex and Celesteela that can try to block Sinister Arrow Raid and play around them accordingly. Team Options Mega Venusaur is a great partner for Decidueye because of its natural bulk, defensive typing, and Thick Fat, which allows it to take a variety of attacks such as Greninja's Ice Beam, Alolan Muk's Knock Off, and Celesteela's Flamethrower. It can also support Decidueye using Leech Seed and remove Toxic Spikes, increasing its longevity. Ferrothorn's good defensive typing and bulk allow it to switch in and take a plethora of attacks, while its Gyro Ball is able to knock out Ice-type Pokemon such as Kyurem-B and its Spikes are helpful for wearing down the opposing team for Decidueye's sweep. Its Leech Seed also gives Decidueye a form of recovery and helps it set up. With its good special bulk and Rock typing, Cradily is able to take on special Fire- and Flying-type Pokemon such as Volcarona, Mega Charizard Y, and Tornadus-T for Decidueye, while its Stealth Rock chips down Decidueye's checks and counters such as Victini and Skarmory for its sweep. In return, Decidueye is able to keep up Ferrothorn and Cradily's entry hazards by blocking Rapid Spin users such as Armaldo from removing them. Decidueye is also able to switch into Fighting-type moves such as Terrakion's Close Combat and Keldeo's Secret Sword for Ferrothorn and Cradily. Choice Scarf Tapu Bulu can outspeed faster Pokemon that threaten Decidueye such as Mega Charizard Y and Volcarona and knock them out with Stone Edge, while its Grassy Terrain boosts the power of Decidueye's Leaf Blade and provides it with passive recovery, allowing it to set up more easily. Breloom can threaten Normal- and Dark-type Pokemon such as Mega Lopunny, Chansey, Bisharp and Hydreigon using Mach Punch and create setup opportunities for Decidueye with Spore. In return, Decidueye can threaten faster Psychic-type Pokemon for Breloom such as Latios and Alolan Raichu with its boosted Shadow Sneak. Whimsicott can support Decidueye by using Stun Spore to slow down faster Pokemon and Encore to create setup opportunities for Decidueye. It can also threaten Dark- and Dragon-type Pokemon such as Mandibuzz, Hydreigon, and Kyurem-B using its Moonblast.

Roost is used to give Decidueye a form of consistent recovery. Defog allows Decidueye to fill the role of an entry hazard remover, which is helpful for teammates that are weak to Stealth Rock, such as Alolan Marowak and Blacephalon. Swords Dance augments Decidueye's offensive presence, allowing it to muscle past defensive walls like Clefable, Ferrothorn, and Mega Venusaur. Set Details Maximum HP investment is used to make Decidueye as bulky as possible. 100 EVs in Defense allow Decidueye to avoid a 2HKO from Choice Scarf Excadrill's Iron Head. 96 EVs in Speed let it outspeed Adamant Azumarill and remove Klefki's screens with Defog so a teammate like Mimikyu can safely revenge kill it. The remaining EVs are put into Special Defense with a Careful nature, allowing Decidueye to safely switch into special attackers like Tapu Koko and Landorus. Leftovers is used to give Decidueye a small amount of recovery each turn. Usage Tips Make sure to keep Decidueye healthy so that it can switch into special attackers that Ghost has difficulty dealing with, such as Landorus and Tapu Koko, more easily. Against defensive Pokemon like Ferrothorn and Mega Venusaur, try to predict when they'll go for a non-attacking move, such as Protect or Synthesis, to safely switch in. It's best to switch in Mega Sableye against an entry hazard setter that Decidueye is unable to beat, such as Torkoal, Swampert, or Skarmory. However, to preserve Mega Sableye's health, it's best to trap and remove entry hazard setters that can beat Mega Sableye, such as Clefable. Avoid status conditions as much as possible since burn prevents Decidueye from breaking past Mega Venusaur and Azumarill, and poison quickly wears it down each turn. It's a good idea to start setting up with Swords Dance when Decidueye is at full health so that it won't have to recover with Roost as often. Team Options Mega Sableye can switch into Dark-type attacks for Decidueye and bounce back status moves such as Toxic and Will-O-Wisp. In return, Decidueye can switch into special attackers like Landorus and Tapu Koko. Gengar is able to revenge kill Diggersby, Blacephalon, and Heatran for Decidueye. It can also absorb Toxic Spikes to allow Decidueye to safely switch in against Water and Poison teams. Mimikyu can check Dark-types like Hydreigon and Tyranitar. In return, Decidueye can remove entry hazards like Toxic Spikes and Sticky Web, which would otherwise prevent Mimikyu from sweeping late-game. Alolan Marowak can switch into Fire-type attacks and beat Steel-types that Decidueye can't handle such as Skarmory and Mega Scizor. Blacephalon can break past defensive walls such as Porygon2 and Skarmory and check threatening Dragon-types like Garchomp and Dragonite with Hidden Power Ice. Jellicent can switch into and beat Fire-types like Heatran and Volcarona for Decidueye as well as switch into Ice-type attacks. It can also counter Water-types that can set up on or burn Decidueye with Scald, such as Calm Mind Keldeo and Suicune. In return, Decidueye can trap and eventually beat bulky Pokemon like Ferrothorn and Mega Venusaur, which are immune to Jellicent's Toxic. Shedinja can switch into offensive Pokemon like Mega Lopunny and defensive Mega Scizor, both of which beat Decidueye. It also appreciates Decidueye removing entry hazards in order to keep it alive. Cofagrigus is able to cripple physical attackers like Mamoswine and Mega Aerodactyl with Will-O-Wisp and can also wear down Normal teams with Toxic Spikes.
