Defense pivot Seaking can help facilitate offensive threats through Flip Turn, as well as cripple opposing passive threats with Knock Off. Although it is outclassed, Lightning Rod lets it gain momentum against the likes of Rotom and Manectric. Seaking isn't worth using because its stats are too bad to properly function as both an Electric check and a defensive pivot since majority of the tier can 3HKO it and only having RestTalk is not reliable.

Moves Waterfall is Seaking's most powerful attack and allows it to threaten the likes of Golem and Stunfisk. Megahorn allows Seaking to hit Grass-types such as Leafeon and Gogoat on the switch in and is its most powerful attack versus opposing Water-types. Knock Off cripples switch-ins such as Roselia, Tangela, and Vullaby by removing their Eviolite, and Facade allows Seaking to break Rotom-F's Substitute even when burned and pivot into Scald users such as Politoed more effectively. Set Details Lightning Rod grants Seaking an immunity to Electric, which is essential for countering opposing Electric-types. 72 Speed EVs allow Seaking to outspeed maximum Speed Golem and OHKO it with Waterfall, while the HP and Special Defense investment lets it take Rotom-F's Life Orb-boosted Blizzard three times factoring in Leftovers recovery and increases its general bulk. The rest of the EVs are put into Attack to hit a jump point when combined with an Adamant nature and to generally hit harder. Usage Tips Seaking can be brought in on opposing Electric-types to fire off strong attacks, but it should otherwise be careful about switching into foes. Seaking needs to stay healthy throughout longer games to consistently prevent foes from freely using Volt Switch, which they would be able to do with Seaking out of the picture. Using Knock Off a lot, especially when given free turns by Electric-types, is a good way to wear down opposing teams and cripple them by removing items. Team Options Seaking helps teammates such as Vullaby and Floatzel that value opposing Electric-types being unable to freely come in and use Volt Switch to gain momentum. Physical walls such as Tangela and Stunfisk help check strong physical attackers such as Stoutland, which can force Seaking out. Grass-type checks such as Arbok and Monferno help cover for Seaking's one weakness. Audino is useful for passing Seaking Wishes to make up for its lack of recovery; clerics like Audino and Grumpig also help heal Seaking of status.

This is probably Seaking's best (and only) viable set. Holding a Life Orb is Seaking's only way to go on the offensive. Waterfall is Seaking's best STAB move, having the highest damage output of all Seaking's other choices. Megahorn is particularly useful, hitting the ever common Exeggutor 4x super effectively while also denting Hypno. Return is pretty much the next best move that Seaking has and provides decent neutral coverage. Other than these three, there aren't really other viable moves to consider for Seaking. Having no physical Ice-type attack, Seaking has to make use of Ice Beam for additional coverage, which is backed by an abysmal base 65 Special Attack. Ice Beam's sole purpose is to nail Altaria and Torterra. Lightning Rod grants Seaking an immunity to Electric and also boosts its Special Attack when it's hit by an Electric-type move. While its main benefit is to allow Seaking to switch into Electric-type attacks without fear, the boosted Special Attack is helpful to power up Ice Beam slightly. Maximum Attack EVs and a Lonely nature are used to make the most out of Seaking's best stat. 160 Speed EVs allow Seaking to outpace Adamant Torterra, blasting a freezing Ice Beam before the latter can retaliate with a Grass-type attack. The remaining EVs are dropped into Special Attack to give Ice Beam some extra power, especially when Seaking's base Special Attack is horrible enough. Life Orb is a compulsory item for Seaking, as it needs all the power it can get. Lightning Rod is the ability of choice to cut down Seaking's weaknesses to nothing but Grass. However, Swift Swim is a viable alternative if Seaking is used on rain teams and you aren't afraid of Electric-type attacks. If you feel that Waterfall is not powerful enough, Aqua Tail can be used for slightly more power in exchange for accuracy. Hydro Pump is a nice alternative to Return for another STAB move, as it also becomes more powerful if Lightning Rod activates, increasing Lightning Rod's utility. Seaking often finds itself walled by opposing Water-types as it lacks the brute strength to muscle its way through them. A Grass-type of your own is useful to get rid of bulky Water-types. Teammates such as Cacturne and Torterra can easily pulverize Water-types that Seaking often attracts. Furthermore, Cacturne can set up Spikes while Torterra can set up Stealth Rock. Grass-types, such as Leafeon, will also often trouble Seaking with their STAB attacks. Charizard is a great teammate as well, as it can roast those pesky Grass-types into crisps. Teammates that attract Electric-type attacks are also great to make full use of Seaking's Lightning Rod, such as the aforementioned Charizard. Swellow is another good example, as it can U-turn out from an expected Electric-type attack and switch into Seaking, who can take it with impunity.

Scald is the recommended STAB move due to its burn chance. Hydro Pump is another option as it is stronger, but its imperfect accuracy can be a letdown. Ice Beam grants Seaking coverage on Dragon-, Grass-, and Flying-types, such as Garchomp, Venusaur, and Thundurus. Hidden Power Grass hits other Water-types, but does not provide much added coverage on top of this. Soak can be used to change your partner's typing to Water, to possibly get rid of other unwanted weaknesses. Protect is standard on nearly every single Pokemon in VGC, as it has many uses in VGC battles, including stalling, preventing Fake Out, and keeping Seaking safe from potential KOs for a turn. A Life Orb can power up Seaking's moves, allowing it to hit incredibly hard after one or two Lightning Rod Special Attack boosts, even though Seaking only has a base 65 Special Attack to start with. As said before, Lightning Rod does so many things for Seaking; most notably, it grants Seaking and its partner an immunity to Electric-type attacks. In addition to this immunity, it also gives Seaking a Special Attack boost for each turn it draws in an Electric-type attack. A Modest nature gets the most power out of Seaking's base 65 Special Attack. In VGC 2012, you won't find Seaking outspeeding many threats in the metagame even with max Speed investment and a positive nature. This lets Seaking use the EVs it would normally invested into the Speed stat, and invest more in HP to increase bulk and survivability. Pokemon who can keep rain up are excellent partners for Seaking as the rain boosts Seaking's STAB move. Politoed is preferred for this as he summons automatic rain upon entering the field. Pokemon with Prankster Rain Dance, such as Tornadus and Thundurus, are also good picks. Thundurus is an especially good partner because it can set rain up with Rain Dance and give boosts to Seaking with Thunder Wave and Discharge. Other Discharge users include Zapdos, the Rotom formes, and Zebstrika. Grass-types such as Ferrothorn, Breloom, and Ludicolo, are problematic as they can hit Seaking super effectively and OHKO; this makes Tornadus and Crobat, who are great checks/counters to said Grass-types, good teammates.

Waterfall is the main STAB move on the set. With STAB and a potential boost from rain, it hits pretty hard against those who take merely neutral damage from it. Aqua Tail can be used for more power, but at the cost of accuracy. Megahorn gives coverage over Psychic-, Grass-, and Dark-types such as Cresselia, Ludicolo, and Abomasnow. However, its accuracy isn't reliable, so be warned. Horn Drill is pretty cool to take out bulky threats such as Cresselia. Soak can be used to change your partner's typing to Water, to possibly get rid of its other weaknesses. Protect is standard on nearly every single Pokemon in VGC. It can help stall, prevent Fake Out damage, or just keep Seaking protected for a turn, while something else happens to get rid of the possible threats on the field. A Life Orb helps Seaking deal out as much damage as possible; this is especially needed with its base 92 Attack stat. An Adamant nature and 252 Attack EVs allow Seaking to hit as hard as possible with its main Water-type STAB and Megahorn. Seaking is in an awkward Speed tier; even with maximum Speed and a boosting nature it doesn't outspeed many threats or common Pokemon you'd want gone, so HP EVs are added for extra bulk. Finally, Lightning Rod is what grants Seaking its unique niche, the most important feature of which is the immunity to Electric-type attacks it grants everyone on the field. Rain support strengthens Seaking's main STAB option, be it Waterfall or Aqua Tail. As Seaking can protect its fellow Water-types from Electric-type attacks, Politoed specifically makes a good partner due to its ability to automatically provide permanent rain. Vice versa, Seaking gives it protection from threats such as Thundurus and Zapdos, who can OHKO with STAB Thunder. Pokemon such as Ludicolo, Ferrothorn, and Breloom can be problematic with strong Grass-type moves, so pairing it with a partner with access to Flying or Fire-type moves helps deal with these threats more easily. Tornadus can also be a good partner as he is able to set up rain and Tailwind, and he can abuse rain himself with Hurricane. Discharge users pair well with Seaking as they can use Discharge freely, without the fear of Seaking getting hurt.

The choice between Waterfall and Aqua Tail depends on whether you prefer the extra power Aqua Tail provides or Waterfall's higher accuracy. Megahorn puts a dent in the likes of Hypno and Espeon and hits Grass-types, particularly Exeggutor, for super effective damage. Return has legitimate coverage with Water-type attacks, as between them they hit every type in the metagame, save for Shedinja, for neutral damage. The set is rounded out with Ice beam, enabling Seaking to 2HKO Tangrowth and Leafeon and destroying both Torterra and Altaria, two Pokemon Seaking would otherwise be helpless against. Swift Swim is the chosen ability because it doubles Seaking's Speed in the rain, not to mention that under rain its STAB attacks could do with the pseudo-STAB boost. The EV spread maximizes Seaking's Attack and allows it to outspeed Timid Choice Scarf Rotom and Timid Omastar in the rain. The remaining EVs are dumped into Seaking's Special Attack to give Ice Beam some extra power. Life Orb is the chosen item since the goldfish lacks an array of powerful moves and needs the boost to make up for its unimpressive Attack stat. The 10% recoil damage isn't worth worrying about due to Seaking's poor defenses; he won't be taking neutral hits well in the first place. When using Seaking, note that it is a huge liability to your team, and in addition to that, it requires a considerable amount of team support for it to function well. Rain Dance is essential for Seaking to function as it cant do much with its appalling base 68 Speed. Uxie and Mesprit are good candidates for the job of providing rain as their bulk allows them to set up Rain Dance several times during the match. They can also provide Stealth Rock support which not only secures certain OHKOes and 2HKOes (Ice Beam has the potential to 2HKO Venusaur after Stealth Rock damage), but also punishes Pokemon attempting to switch out and waste the turns of rain. Electrode and Ambipom are also great Rain Dance users as they have high Speed and pack Taunt, which acts as a safeguard for Seaking, preventing it from getting statused while attempting to sweep. Other Swift Swim users also make great teammates for Seaking, especially Ludicolo as it can use its STAB Grass-type attacks to get rid of bulky Water-types that stand in Seaking's way. Both Qwilfish and Kabutops can set up Swords Dance and dismantle the opposing team, allowing Seaking to secure an easy late-game sweep. Defensive Pokemon that can take advantage of the temporary rain are also welcome. Registeel is able to withstand a multitude of attacks, negate its Fire-type weakness with Rain Dance, and cripple opposing Pokemon with either Thunder Wave or Toxic; it can also set up Stealth Rock. Rotom and Lanturn can fire off 100% accurate Thunder in the rain and also deal with the opponent's bulky Water-types. Lastly, Venusaur has great synergy with Seaking, resisting both Electric- and Grass-type attacks which Seaking simply cannot take. It can also help take down sturdy walls such as Milotic and Blastoise, both of which wall Seaking with ease.

Agility is the first move you should use. Then you either Substitute or Endure down to 1 HP to activate your Liechi Berry and power up Flail. Hydro Pump hits most of the physical walls--Aggron, Gligar, Golem, and Solrock--hard. You need Hydro Pump to have a guaranteed OHKO on min HP Gligar, and a nearly guaranteed OHKO on max HP Gligar. Hydro Pump will always OHKO max HP Aggron, but Surf never will. Both easily OHKO Golem, however. Solrock is usually OHKOed by Hydro Pump if it has max HP, but never by Surf.

You can pick any physical Hidden Power really. Like many other underused Pokemon, Seaking is a nice Choice Bander. Megahorn everything in sight, attack with the other moves if something resistant comes. Hitting Jolteon with a Hidden Power Ground running off of a 466 Attack on the switch is cool, but like other Choice Banders, you need prediction.

Seaking has decent stats, but they are not high enough to do something. Rain Dance first, then hit everything with the 270 power Hydro Pump and Megahorn. Hidden Power Grass is probably best as the last move to hit enemy Waters, especially Quagsire, as Megahorn already deals with the Grass-types that Ice Beam normally covers, and there are no Dragons outside of the never used Altaria in UU.

Seaking's good mixed coverage, power, and bulk make it a supreme offensive threat in ADV ZU. Hydro Pump 2HKOes Koffing and is very threatening to Cubone, Mightyena, and Rhyhorn. Megahorn drills through specially bulky Pokemon such as Castform, Drowzee, and Lileep, and it's stronger and more reliable than Hydro Pump against Mightyena if Seaking hasn't been affected by Intimidate. Hidden Power Rock nails Noctowl and Dustox; lacks the shaky accuracy of Hydro Pump to reliably hit Ponyta, Anorith, and Quilava; and keeps Seaking threatening to certain Swords Dance sweepers like Beedrill and Tentacool. Protect maximizes Seaking's passive recovery from Leftovers and allows it to scout Choice Band users like Aipom, Doduo, and Meditite. Water Veil helps Seaking stand out from other physical attackers with its immunity to Koffing's Will-O-Wisp, enabling it to take advantage of it. The given Speed investment lets mixed Seaking outspeed base 35 Speed and slower Pokemon like Cubone, neutral-natured base 40 Speed Pokemon like Ariados, and uninvested base 70 Speed Pokemon like Noctowl and Mightyena. 176 Attack EVs are necessary to 2HKO Noctowl and for a 91.8% chance to 2HKO Dustox, while the rest of Seaking's EVs are put into its bulk to increase its resilience to Ponyta and Quilava. Seaking is a great fit for offense and bulky offense teams looking for a Pokemon with great offensive qualities and a solid defensive backbone. Fast sweeper teammates like Ponyta, Abra, and Aipom benefit from Seaking breaking holes in teams for them to clean up. Tropius, Gloom, Beedrill, and other physical attackers appreciate Seaking taking on Koffing for them, and in return, they threaten opposing Gloom, Corsola and Tropius for it. Koffing covers Seaking's poor matchups against Gloom and Tropius, while Seaking handles Ponyta and Quilava. Corsola is a particularly bad matchup for Seaking given it isn't 3HKOed by any of its moves and can heal off any damage, so partners that threaten it like Gloom, Tropius, and Flaaffy can cover for Seaking.

Seaking's high Attack and solid movepool make it a threatening wallbreaker and lead. Double-Edge is Seaking's most spammable attack, something helped by the rarity of Normal-resistant foes in ZU. Megahorn targets Grass-types, though its use is limited by the fact that ZU's best Grass-types, Tropius and Gloom, are neutral to Bug and thus take the same amount of damage from Double-Edge; in general, Megahorn provides an equally powerful attack as Double-Edge with no recoil, a midground in the event the opponent switches to a Pokemon that resists Normal, and the ability to 2HKO all variants of Mightyena. Hydro Pump OHKOes Rock-types such as Rhyhorn and Anorith and Ground-types such as Cubone, and it is Seaking's strongest move against certain physical walls such as Koffing. Hidden Power Grass 2HKOes an unboosted Corsola, preventing it from switching into Seaking. Water Veil is used to prevent Seaking from being crippled by Will-O-Wisp from foes such as Koffing and burns from Fire-type attacks from foes such as Ponyta and Quilava. Seaking best fits on offense and balance teams looking for a threatening wallbreaker with few true walls. While it is best used in the lead slot, it is not confined in such a role and can be used in the back on teams with another Choice Band user or another dedicated lead. Corsola is Seaking's hardest check, with it having reliable recovery while not being 2HKOed by any of its moves barring Hidden Power Grass. Once Corsola sets up Calm Mind, Seaking is helpless against it. Thus, checks to Corsola such as Flaafy, Tropius, and Gloom make for great partners. Seaking struggles against Grass-types such as Gloom and Tropius, making it appreciate the support of teammates such as Ponyta, Quilava, and one's own Tropius. In return, Seaking is an effective check to aforementioned Fire-types themselves. Speedy offensive foes such as Elekid, Abra, Choice Band Aipom, and Choice Band Doduo can outspeed and KO Seaking, making bulky Pokemon such as the aforementioned Grass-types, Mightyena, and Corsola good teammates. Seaking can be used on sun teams, with it acting as an effective check to special walls and Fire-types.

Analysis

This set makes use of its two best stats, HP and Attack. It is best used by saving it as a trump card late-game. Choosing between Agility or Surf depends on the type of team you are going to be using. If you are running a hard hitting non-status spreading team, Agility would probably be wise. However, if you have a lot of Pokemon with Stun Spore, Body Slam, or Thunder Wave, then Seaking will not need to make itself fast and won't need to bluff having Surf. As long as you keep Hidden Power Ground or Double-Edge a secret, it is likely that an opponent will hesitate confronting this Pokemon with a Rock- or Ground-type, which is favorable to you. Hidden Power Ground punishes Electric-types, although it will have to be set up nicely before it can be used to your favor effectively. Miracle Berry is to get the jump on any late paralyzing or sleeping Pokemon that are in a last ditch effort to stop you from doing heavy damage to their team.

Analysis

This is a much more conservative way of fighting and it works in mostly the opposite way of the Swords Dance set. This set does not hit hard nor does it impress up front, however it fills out the token Water-type slot for a team. This Seaking is much more durable and gets the job done eventually. While it won't pack the punch of a sweeper it is worth a mention for UU teams that just need a regular Water-type without any gimmicks.

Swords Dance raises Seaking's Attack to acceptable levels, letting Hyper Beam land guaranteed OHKOs against Jynx and Alakazam, while Agility allows it to outrun the unboosted metagame and ignore the Speed drop from paralysis. A +2 Hyper Beam can also KO Pokemon such as Persian, Rapidash, Chansey, Jolteon, and Hypno if around 20% damage has been dealt prior. At +4, Seaking can OHKO Chansey, Hypno, Starmie, and even Tauros a third of the time. Surf covers Rock-types such as Rhydon, as well as dealing around 25% to Gengar, while also serving as an attack without a drawback. Seaking's movepool is barren but does have other options worth exploring; generally, it should always use a Double Dance set, or it's outclassed by Pokemon like Kingler. Blizzard is a plausible alternative to Surf for the freeze chance and 3HKOing Exeggutor and Zapdos, but the damage is otherwise unimpressive and it fails to OHKO Rhydon. Double-Edge, while having less drawback than Hyper Beam, is weak enough to largely diminish Seaking's threat level once set up. Hydro Pump may seem enticing, but it isn't compatible with the event-only Swords Dance, defeating its purpose. Seaking should commit to boosting only when it is possible to sweep. +4 Attack is needed to OHKO most Pokemon in the tier, and +2 Speed is needed to avoid being revenge killed by faster unparalyzed Pokemon. This amount of setup is daunting, but achievable. Seaking's bulk can withstand two hits from almost everything besides Razor Leaf or very strong Thunderbolts. Taking paralysis is also normally inconsequential in the process; thanks to its setup-heavy nature, Seaking is efficient as reapplying foes' Speed drops from paralysis if an opposing team has been riddled with it. Once Gengar, Electric-types, and Razor Leaf users are eliminated or confirmed to be absent, and extra-bulky Pokemon like Snorlax have taken a little damage, a single free turn can be all the opening Seaking needs to complete the three turns of setup needed to sweep. Against slower teams, Swords Dance can be all that's necessary to break through slower, bulkier Pokemon in Hypno, Chansey, and non-Reflect Snorlax variants. To achieve optimal conditions for a sweep, Seaking should be paired with consistent sleepers such as Jynx and Exeggutor, and Reflect Snorlax to check opposing Snorlax. Seaking is overwhelmed by Gengar, Zapdos, Jolteon, and Electabuzz, so Jolteon can be a helpful partner to safely switch into their attacks, while Seaking in turn can check Ground-types like Rhydon in a pinch for Jolteon. Rhydon, Chansey, and Alakazam can also check these Pokemon by comfortably switching into Thunderbolt, though, depending on the coverage of those Seaking checks, these partners might struggle to consistently switch in.
